“Bad service at the bar - stay away from the female bartender”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

We didn't stay at the hotel, but went to the bar for drinks. The male bartenders were fine - we were sitting right up at the bar - but a quarter of the evening through they switched and there was a female bartender who was only interested in hanging out with her friends and getting free drinks from the customers. We were not impressed, especially considering we have bar owners in the family, and know exactly what good service is supposed to be. My husband, who never gets upset, could not believe how horrible this woman was - she didn't even look at us once all night. Sadly, based on this, we will never be back to this establishment.

“La Rana Cansada Always my choice!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2010

I have traveled to Playa del Carmen many times in the past and a few years ago I finally found La Rana Cansada. I've stayed nowhere else since! La Rana is a quaint and charming hotel with Mexican style rooms and Mexican charm. A lovely garden area with tropical plants is central of the rooms,. There is a choice between air conditioning or not, and the rates are not expensive. It is very close to the beach(just a little over a block). The owners are amazing people who do their best to make each and every guest feel at home.

The Bar Ranita is attached to the hotel, and is a hub of activity with many expats and locals alike, gathering in the evenings for drinks and conversation. I was at La Rana on their Anniversary, and I had expected a big party. There was an AMAZING party with free tacos which were amazing. The party went into the night and Everyone was so happy.

This is Mexico, a land of enjoying and celebrating life. La Rana is a unique and awesome place, that is not for everyone, but those who "get it" return over and over and over again. Don't hesitate to give La Rana a try.

I would also like to respond to the previous post... and I can show proof to anyone who wants it of how many times I have stayed at La Rana, and of my most recent week-long stay. The owners were host to several hundred guests the night of the Anniversary party, and could not possibly have been expected to give anyone undivided attention. I was there throughout the party and your accusations of "assault" border on slander.

Please look at the bulk of reviews of La Rana... I love the place and would recommend it to any of my friends.

“Authentic Mexico”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

When I travel to other cities, I want to experience the destination as much as possible. La Rana Cansada provides the feel of Mexico in your room! Mexican tile floors, cement walls, bright colors for the curtains and bedsheets. A little on the rustic side, but good.
The courtyard is open with a beautiful canpoy of Bougainvillea. The bar is amazing, with friendly staff and no shortage of locals. Steps from the nightlife, shopping and restaurants in Playa, this hotel has a great location.
The rooms can be warm in the summer, and the mattress is thin. If you don't mind those things, this is the hotel for you!
We ended up being upgraded to one of the suites. Our balcony had a bucket that you dropped down with your drink order. The bartender would make your beverages, ring a bell - instant room service. How cool is that?

“Great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

Great place to stay. Rooms are very basic but when in Playa we were only in our room to sleep. The bar in the hotel is great, lots of good fun. Welcoming and friendly staff. No problems whatsoever and will definitely stay there again. Very close to beach, close to 5th Ave. Beds were a bit hard - Walmart is nearby..next visit I would just get one of those egg crate things and throw on the bed. Loved the hotel.
