“Nice hotel with fantastic location”

We travelled first time to Mexico in January 2012 and spent two weeks in El Tukan. We liked the hotel and Playa del Carmen (Mayan Riviera) very much. We had reserved room in El Tukan and waited with some excitement, what we´ll get because the hotel wasn´t very new. But we worried in vain: El Tukan was a very well-managed hotel, the staff was polite and helpfull and the rooms and the garden was nice and clean. The rooms were just lovely ´rustic´ mexican style. Although the best thing was the location: we lived in the heart of the town, everything could be reached by walk! Despite the central loacation there was not much noise (our room was, however, facing the pool). And the breakfast in the restaurant La Ceiba was excellent, very varied and tasty.

Thank you very much for your comment.
One of its great competitive advantages for the 4 star Tukan Hotel and Beach Club is its location
at the 5th Avenue in the hear of Playa del Carmen close to all shops, lounges, restaurants and just a few walking minutes from the Caribbean Ocean.
70% of all rooms and areas have been renovated and the remaining will be completed by autumn 2012.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon at the Tukan Hotel and Beach Club.

“Good location, rooms ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

My girlfriend and I spent one week at El Tukan and went for the breakfast option, which in our opinion suited our needs just fine.
We arrived a bit early on check-in day- the check-in time is 3pm and they adhere to it. Although we had booked with El Tukan, they showed us a room at Moongate Hotel (a property beloning to El Tukan just across the street). We weren't happy at all with the room (very small, just one double bed, window directly to noisy 5ta Avenida, moldy smell in the bathroom) and asked for a different room. This one actually was at El Tukan, with two double beds, a balcony with view to the pool and a decent bathroom.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Tukan; the breakfast buffet at El Ceiba restaurant across the road was more than adaquate, with fruits, yogurts, omelettes made to order and other breakfast items changing on a daily basis. The staff were friendly and efficient, rooms were made up everyday and towels changed.
We didn't use the pool or jacuzzi, as the water there was a bit too cold for our liking.
Included in the stay is access to the hotel's beach club, which is a couple of blocks away. There is a shuttle, however we enjoyed walking the short distance every day. We couldn't get any drinks from the beach club's bar, as we didn't have the all-inclusive bracelet, but the friendly waiters from neighbouring Kool Beach Club will get you anything you like.
All- in-all, we can highly recommend El Tukan, however make sure you get a room in the main property, not at Moongate. We think it is good value for money and if you like to eat out at different places, the breakfast will be perfect for you. Playa has a wide variety of different places to eat out at very reasonable prices.

Room Tip: El Tukan main property, with viwe to the pool. Rooms facing 5ta Avenida are too noisy

I spent two weeks, over Christmas and New Year's in Playa, staying at El Tukan. My very first impression was that it was kind of sparse, but then again I didn't go on holiday to stay in my room. Through the upcoming weeks I was impressed by the efficiency with which the hotel was run, the gorgeously delicious breakfast buffets, the cleanliness of the room and the reasonable speed with which any help needed at reception was given. After all, you are in Mexico so don't expect everyone to speak English! *smile* My only two issues with El Tukan were that the beach-club was kind of far away (and - during this period of time - extremely noisy with the bpm festival) and that I couldn't get any recommendations of where to go to taste (and learn about) tequila. A word of warning about hard beds, but over all my dream holiday really became my dream holiday, staying at El Tukan (and I know I sound like someone paid me to say that! *blushing*).Apart from that I only have good things to say about this hotel and the staff I met there. I hope to be able to return again one day!

Room Tip: Bring ear-plugs, regardless of where you get a room. The A/C is loud (but is a necessary evil), the...

The Tukan Hotel and Beach Club is located centrally at the heart of Playa del Carmen at the 5th Avenue. The Beach Club with its private section for the clients of the Tukan is about 10 walking minutes away and the hotel does offer a free shuttle service back and for.
We have been remodeling the hotel up to 70% including A/C's and all furniture and will complete the remodelation in autumn 2012.
Looking forward to welcoming you again soon at the Tukan Hotel and Beach Club.

“A Nice Hotel- Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

El Tukan is located right on the main tourist shopping street. However, you cannot even tell such a busy place was near there. Huge trees shadowed out the streets making it look like you were in a dense tropical rainforest. It included a pool (although it was always freezing, it was very shallow). The breakfast buffet was delicious, and you didn't have to walk far to reach the beach area. My only complaints were that there was no internet connection at all, and because of the freezing cold "hot" tub.

Room Tip: Try to get a room by the pool area-the trees make it look like your in another world.

“Great location, not so great room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

We stayed in El Tukan for 10 days in November 2011. We chose El Tukan because of the central location and rather good reviews. The location of the hotel is great, but the location of our room was not. We got a room in another building on another street. The room was on the ground floor, facing the side street. The electrical fence didn`t bother me but the noise from some kind of water system thing right next to the room was a source of trouble. A pump was pounding against the wall all night long and the sleep quality was extremely poor.

If you would get a better room, the hotel is fine because of the great location and a very good beach. But you would have to find it first! But when you are there, it is a good place with good service. I can also recommend the Sports Bar across the street from our building for a good food and good service.

Room Tip: Try to avoid room 911 if you have sleeping problems.
