“This is a 10 star Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I think that to be fair when evaluating a hotel/resort it would be helpful to have categories. For example it is possible to give a nice not too expensive all inclusive five stars but those five stars do not equal the five stars given to an upscale rather expensive resort.

So when I evaluate Maroma the five stars I am giving it really should be 10 stars. This resort is spectacular.

The resort is just 35 minutes from the airport but you feel like you are hours away.

We arrived at noon a few hours before their regular check in time and we were given another room to change in.

We then went to the beach. Maroma beach is a long stretch with only a few resorts. The sand is soft white, the water clear blue. The very little seweed was raked up every morning. Comfortable beach beds, loungers and chairs, palapas and umbrellas line the beach at a comfortably private distance. Every time I tried to move my chair an attendant ran over to do it. Towels are large, plentiful and available.

Our pool was nice but not heated. The main pool is heated. It is actually very warm and It is under a canopy of trees.

We had an ocean view room in the newer section that overlooked one of the pools. We had a view of the beach, palm trees, birds, the pool and flowers.
The bed was very comfortable, the room was charming and we had a great balcony with chairs, table and hammock.
Coffee arrived every morning at 7 as requested. The evening turn down service included candles and oils.

The days were beautiful and the nights were equally spectacular. We walked down tree lined paths lit by torches and/or candles. Candles were lit everywhere in the restaurants.

The meals were very good. The past reviewer was absolutely wrong about prices. Breakfast was free and included anything you wanted. One day I asked for pancakes and scrambled eggs and ended up with 2 separate meals all free. Every day they came around with tropical fruits and bread, pastries and home made marmalades. You could have pretty much any juice including the juice of the day which could be mango guava. We were usually too full for lunch. I was however always ready for the daily ice-cream man on the beach who delivered yummy homemade ice cream cones. Our dinners were typically the fresh fish of the day. The fish was always fresh and very moist and flavorful. Prices were comparable to any fine restaurant. Music in the evening was provided by local musicians.

All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Maroma is expensive. You get what you pay for. This is a quiet, beautiful resort where the intent is to give you a memorable vacation. And memorable it was.

“Another visit to a great resort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

our third visit to this great small resort, now an Orient Express property for the past several years.

Although there is some encroachment of "corporate" they have remarkably been able to keep the friendliness and "home" feel as a culture in theri employees both old and new.

Staff learns your name very quickly here. some staff recognized us from our last visit even though they did not remember our names they did our faces.

With Chef Juan Pablo and Chef de cuisine Edgar the food remains very good to outstanding. Chef has added some concepts (wine dinner, chef's table, home cooking in the cantina) as well as taco night and grill night besides the restaurant's food. The spa is also excellent.

but why do we go back? It's a special place with special people. We feel like going home.

Belen meeting you with a welcome margarita.

Gabriel, Moses and Javier in the restaurant. Dahlia making the perfect corn tortillas (and trying to teach you how).

Luis, Freddy, Manuael, and Angel sharing their knowlege of the Yucatan, her people and of course tequila.

Johnny and Sergio on the beach.

Maroma is not cheap but like most high end resorts it delivers. If you, like me, don't have a trust account or sold your dot com company then save your money so you can come here once. After that, you will come back I am sure of it.

We are very particular in our vacation choices and visited Mexico 5-6 times in a last 2-3 years. We love Esperanza, Ventanas/Cabos/,BanyanTree,Rosewood/Riviera Maya/
Maroma is very unique and outstanding place. It reminded me Royal Palms/Arizona/ and Rancho Valencia/California/ but IMO MR exceeds all above mentioned places.
Previous reviews outlined in a great details major aspects of this property. Not to be repetitive but 3 major areas were MR shines

“Awesome Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Warm smiles welcomed our arrival to this beautifully landscaped romantic getaway on the beach. Our room was above and beyond our expectations; very spacious, clean and comfortable, with views and sounds of the ocean. Men, ask Jessica to provide the flowers for your room; and don't for forget the card. The spa accommodations and services are extraordinary and the therapists [ask for Norma] are exceptional. Executive chef Juan Pablo serves up wonderful tastes and broad selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Take advantage of the dinners grilled on the patio, lunch at you beach lounge, raucous Catinas or dinner for two on the beach. A big thank you to all the staff, who made our visit to this awesome romantic getaway very special.

Room Tip: Ocean suites [unit 59 is a great location] are spacious, quiet, have beautiful views of the ocean, a...
