This was actually May 2010, my sister, my husband and I flew into Cancun, and were en route to Sarteneja, Belize. I'd heard so much about Playa we stopped here at Aluz. Reservations were made in advance and the service was excellent. The building was charming, spotless but inviting and it comes with a resident peacock. The hotel is very close to the downtown action with many dining options, great shopping and of course, the beach. Skip Cancun, head south a bit to Playa del carmen, The Alux is a great place to stay, very reasonably priced. Parking available.

We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed everything about this hotel. Its not luxury but has everything you need, great bathroom, tv, air con, nicely decorated and very clean.

Its situated about 5 minutes walk to the bus station and only 2 minutes to the 5th avenue street and beach.

Not much english spoken at the hotel but we got by fine. free use of water cooler in reception too.

there is a fantastic restuarant towards 5ave on the left that has a menu of the day with fantastic service, excellent 3 course menu with wine which works out around £5 a head.... best meal we had in mexico.

If your not hung up on luxuries this is the place to stay in playa.

We stayed here for one night during our trip to Belize. The place was clean, the beds fairly comfortable. You cannot beat the price!
