“Pricey Luxury”

First - this is one of the cleanest resorts we have ever been to. The public and private areas are spotless. The service is unmatched. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. We experience a language barrier only a few times in a resturant since not every employee is fluent in English.

We are cruising people so this was something different for us. When we compared the price - we believe a cruise is a better value since you are never lacking for activities and ocean-views. We upgraded to an ocean-front room and it added a significant amount to our bill. We had originally booked a "partial-ocean view" room (which we should have looked at first before upgrading) and the ocean-front view added $200/day to our stay.

We enjoyed the adult-only experience but the food preparation was sub-par. Every piece of meat or fish was over-cooked. The breakfast buffet - although plentiful was clearly a re-mix of the previous day's food.

As other reviewers have stated avoid the "Tour of the property", "Vacation Club", "Rewards Program" in exchange for credits. The credits are extremely limited. For example - you may get a $200 spa credit but you can only use $40 at a time for spa treatments over $150. You can get credits for a bottle of wine but you can only use the credits $10 at a time. We were satisfied with the house wine.

Room Tip: Avoid "Swim-Out" Rooms. They have no view (only foilage) and the "pool" is shar...

“Unbelievable.”

Every good thing you read about Secrets Maroma is true. We just got back from a wedding there and wow, was it amazing from start to finish. It's a pricy resort, but for that cost, you don't have to think about a thing while there. The restaurants are truly top notch and the drinks are delicious. (Make sure you call your liquor or they do give you the well variety).

Overall, if you are considering any of these resorts, go for it. The standard, quality of service, and location was just amazing.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have amazing views, but first floor rooms are "swim out!"

“Fantastic Stay”

Great couples retreat. Ok, I have been meaning to review my stay here for sometime (life, toddler got in the way). We actually stayed here June 2010 but Trip Advisor will not let me go back that far.

This was by far a wonderful couples retreat, we stayed in a concierge level ocean view room near the beach We were close to the beach/pool/ pool restaurants but about a 5 min walk to the main building. The staff was amazing at the resort, they were always around and friendly. The food in the restaurants was very good and no reservations needed with the exception of the Benni Hanna style one.

The grounds and rooms were clean and well maintained. The pools were very nice and they had servers going around throughout the day passing out hors d'oeuvres during the day (grilled shrimp on a skewer was one of them). The pools had a bar, a restaurant open during the day for sit down meals (both restaurants were open during the evening) and a buffet grill which was very good. The beach was white sand, clear water, and very clean. On the beach the service was not as good as by the pool but sitting on the beach outweighed the not so good service. There was a grill setup on the beach during the lunch hour and the food was good too. We also had a couple treatments at the spa which was very nice too.

Overall this was a very good resort experience and we would go back for another childless vacation. This hotel is very good for couples, not so much for groups of friends (unless they are couples) or people traveling solo.

“NOT A GOOD CHOICE. Security problems. Dated property. Mediocre food. Unprofessional management.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Jewelry was stolen out of my wife's luggage upon check in. The hotel management and security have been less than helpful, professional or compassionate.

Upon arrival, we were instructed to leave our luggage with hotel staff at the front of the hotel.
We were transported to "preferred" check in.

An hour later, when we got to our room, we waited about 20 minutes for the luggage to arrive. At that time, we discovered that a small jewelry bag had been removed from my wife's baggage.

The property manager, Rafael,  just wants to smile and hope we have a nice stay.  He promised that he would get back to us with a report the following day (Friday). We never heard from him. The following day, Saturday, we kept "missing him."

Finally, at 5pm, we caught up with him. He was condescending and throwing around a fake smile.
Every time we talk to him, we get a different story. You can get a police report. You can not get a police report. We will take you. We won't take you. They promised to take us and then at the last minute, told us that something came up.

We highly advise against any American to stay at this resort. While the beach is lovely, the food is mediocre, and the rooms are dated and stale.

If you want an All-inclusive, we highly recommend Excellence Playa Mujeres. We went there twice last year and regret we didn't make it a third time.

“A so~so experience”

Hi guys!! Ok, I want to high light the good and the bad. I will be the first to admit that I might be sort of a resort snob...I like things nice and I like things luxurious so my expectations at times can be a little high. However, when you see 5 stars next to a resort, you assume that is what you will be getting.

The food~ I have had better tuna fish out of a can BUT I am from Louisiana and it is hard to beat our seafood and our flavor so again, this is my opinion =) I will say that Portofino had ok steaks and lobster but it was only bc I brought tony's and tabasco haha.

The rooms~ were a 5 out of 10 at best. Musty and damp most days. Get an ocean front or a swim out )

The beach was beautiful and the pool areas was a blast each day. Hard to get drinks at times and like pulling teeth to get drinks in your room. Entertainment was hilarious...they had Mexican American Idol....this was AWESOME =))

I will definitely try out other Secrets/Dreams resort, just wouldnt return to this one...been there, done that.

If your wanting 5 star luxury , I would totally wait until August and visit Secrets, The Vine in Cancun a couple of months after it opens (give them time to work out the kinks) It looks AMAZING!!!

hope this helps. Fun travels!!!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and get beach front or swim out
