“How was my stay, in a word: Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

I recently stayed at the Posada for the third time in as many years. It is, and always has been, pleasant, clean, quiet, and friendly. The rooms have always been well maintained, and believe me, never any chipped paint or dirt. The plants and trees in the courtyard are a veritable tropical arboretum. There are always some flowers blooming and last year there were bananas on a tree, this year the papaya tree was loaded with fruit. The pool is small but pleasant and well kept up by Ron, the world's most interesting pool boy. The pool is so clean that one morning I looked at it from the balcony and thought there was no water in it. I would love to spend the whole winter there, but sadly, have to settle for only a few days a year.

“Run down cheap dirty place !”

I was suppose to stay there more than a week based on tripadvisor reviews. What I found in Posada Santiago is a run down suffocating dirty place. No water pressure in the shower, Room dirty and suffocating. Fridge in the supposed wanna be kitchenette out of use. The walls around the bed not cleaned for many years, even if a bit of paint could have not cost so much ! So first in the next morning I was out of that cheap place. Even for 30 $ it is not owrth it. Even the location is not so good... noisy street.

“This is a perfect guesthouse; I really did feel at home.”

My needs were met in this charming, unpretentious spot in Merida's lovely Santiago district. Manuel is a gracious host who provides cheerful assistance laced with words of wisdom. The kitchenette really came in handy. The bed is super comfortable, the bathroom is fully tiled and huge, the TV has a bunch of channels in English, and the pool looks lovely. It was being painted and prepared for warmer weather when I was there. Enjoy!

“Best Place I have found in the past 5 Yrs in Merida”

This past Septemeber I was headed to Merida to relax. After staying in many other facilities in the past and being ever so disappointed,I started looking on the internet for a B&B in Merida. Well the rest is history. Folks you cannot ask for better hosts than Ron and Manuel at the Santiago Guesthouse. My room was spacious, clean and full of every aminity one could need. I felt welcomed as though I had returned home from a long trip.
Look no further you are at home.
Thanks for everything,
James Reed

“nice decoration but suffocating room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2008

The posada was nicely decorated, but our room was claustrophobic (we were on the first floor): there was a huge wall behind one window and the air conditioning didn't work well. Moreover, the bathroom wasn't very clean. Finally, there was a big space between the door and the floor, which caused a lot of mosquitoes to enter in our room.

  • Liked — well-decorated
  • Disliked — lack of fresh air
