“Decent tourist class Mexican hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

This is a clean, comfortable tourist class hotel located in downtown Cancun. Nothing special, but a good hotel for the price. If you are a light sleeper, try to get a room like mine- in the back away from the pool. The pool area can be noisy in the evenings & outside across the street is a loud bar. It is close to the bus station. Also - Best Day Tours is located right in the lobby. They are an excellent choice for tours such as Chichen Itza, Xel-Ha, Tulum, etc.

“Downtown Hotel for reasonable price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2009

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Our main reason for staying here, was to go to Chichen Itza and experience Cancun for a few days. The majority of our stay was in Akumal...about and hour and a half south. Our room was on the second floor. It was very noisy, but I come prepared and had earplugs. Our room was right in the centre of the hotel where the stairs and elevators are. This floor is actually open to the main floor below with vaulted ceilings. You can hear everything going on downstairs. That being said, the rooms were very reasonable and clean as well. Two double beds, table and chairs and clean bathroom. The room was very large. There was also a balcony over looking the pool, (also noisy with kids during the day). This hotel is not in the tourist zone near the ocean, which is part of the reason we chose it. The week we were there was spring break and we didn't want to be anywhere near that craziness. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed this area more than the touristy areas, as you are not hounded every minute by street vendors, pushy people, etc. In the downtown, there are large neighborhood squares called SM's. We went to SM 28, which was very much a tourist trap. Later on we discovered SM 22, which was a market where all the local people go. It was wonderful. No one really speaks English here, so bring a book to translate. It was so nice to see all the families with their children enjoying their evenings together. The kids had clowns and a park to play in. Lots of little stalls to browse and no one is pushing you to buy something you don't want. We ate taco's for $1 each and beer was 2 for $3. Street artists and musicians galore. This is how I picture Mexico must have been before it became Americanized. All in all we had a fabulous vacation. This is not in the tourist zone, and it is in the heart of the city, so quite noisy. No ocean either. There are a lot of restaurants and bars nearby to try as well. I do recommend this hotel as a place to rest your head after a day of exploring for a great price.

“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2007

Excellent, clean hotel, with good service. It also featured a very nice little restaurant that served an excellent breakfast. Several locals were eating there (Saturday morning) as well the hotel guests. The restaurant serves lunch/dinner, has a few wines available and was open till 10pm on the night we arrived. We only stayed one night, the night our plane arrived in Merida. It seems to be a good hotel for those newly arriving to Merida since it was only a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport. The price was very reasonable at $640pesos for the night.

“Las Margaritas is Exceptional”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2005

Summary: Hotel Las Margaritas offers exceptional service and very nice facilities.

We were in Playa del Carmen during hurricane Wilma, and were sent to Merida when the weather permitted travel. Many other tourists were also sent to Merida and so room availability in the city was very limited. I identified Hotel Las Margaritas as a hotel that I wanted to stay in due to the fact that they advertised wireless internet access in the yellow pages, but it took me a few nights in other hotels until I was able to check in to Hotel Las Margaritas.

Members of the staff were, without exception, of the highest caliber. They were very attentive and accommodating.

Our room was clean and comfortable. We had wireless internet available in the room, a small fridge stocked with items that were priced reasonably, an in-room safe, and cable TV. The room, furniture, etc. were all well maintained.

The hotel is located a short distance from the historical district, and also a short distance from the business district, so there isn't much within walking distance. However, the hotel is located next to a medical facility and about 50 yards/meters from a well-traveled steet (Itzaes). It is easy to find transportation.

Prices exceeded my expectations, making this hotel a tremendous value.

I was unable to locate any other reviews of Hotel Las Margaritas, nor did I locate an abstract of the hotel in tripadvisor. Note to tripadvisor reviewer, please add this hotel to your database.
