“Beautiful Place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This hidden place in the city of merida is just perfect. Nice building, with a mexican mood/touch that give a beautiful atmosphere... our rooms was big, with purple walls and orange bathroom.
The breakfast is really good and served in a nice patio, in a small courtyard with a tiny swimming pool. The staff is very nice and they help us with everything: they organized for us a wonderful trip to chichen itza and to uxmal with a local company. Call for us the Ado to know the timetable. And very important: on the xmas day we need a doctor and they call him for us. He came directly in our room.
So, yes I would definitely suggest this nice hotel with a very prepared and friendly staff.
The hotel is not right in middle of the city, but it takes 10 minutes walk to get there.

“Nothing Much Under the Surface”

A nice looking boutique-style hotel but not much to recommend it underneath the cute exterior. The location is a 15 minute walk to the city center and there is nothing in the neighborhood to see or do.

The rooms are centered around a small pool and patio area where the breakfast is served. Speaking of the breakfast, it was a disappointing serving of one type of fruit, yogurt and rubbery rolls. The equally disappointing eggs cost extra.

The positive aspects of the rooms were good water pressure and air conditioning. Drawbacks included the hard bed, wireless internet that only worked when close to the lobby, and the noise -- from every movement from the neighbors above to the constantly barking dog (which, despite repeated complaints, was never dealt with). Oh, and guests are requested to not put toilet paper into the toilet but rather into the trash can. Yuck.

Overall, for the money, there are so many places in Merida that are better located and in much better condition as this place is run-down.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floor would probably be quieter as far as hearing your neighbors but no differenc...

“Such a disappointment!!! Families, stay away!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

We love Merida and visit often, normally we stay at "Luz en Yucatán" and always had a good experience, love the city and it's cultural life. On this occasion we were traveling with family members and the other hotel had no more rooms available so we had to change plans at the last moment and gave "Hotel Marionetas" a shot, what a terrible mistake!!

The hotel itself is clean and cozy, the staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was really good, with the exception of the coffee which was awful, it tasted like it was 10 days old.

The reason what i give it such a bad review is because of the "special treatment" we got from the owner/manager (?) on our last day of stay.

We checked- out and were ready to leave but our car broke, so we had to go back to the hotel and ask the clerk if he could help us to find a mechanic willing to come on a holiday and help us to fix our car, he was really polite and helpful and got us a mechanic right away.

What happened next ruined the whole experience for all of us, we would advise families to stay away from this place and for the owner to make up his mind about the whole hospitality business and let his employees deal with the guests.

We were traveling with our toddler (1 year, 9 months) and he was under the constant supervision of his nanny while i was asking the clerk to look for the mechanic, suddenly my boy took a little trinket from one of the shelves and the manager/owner started asking us who was going to pay for the item if it broke (he didn't break anything, he was looking at it) and suddenly completely flipped out asking us to take the kid out to the road or somewhere else and to his employee to ask us to leave because we were annoying him (!!!) I was in complete disbelief and didn't know what to do, he looked clearly old and frail, I wasn't sure if he was sick, or crazy... never had any person in the hospitality business flip out and be so rude for an object that was so little and couldn't be worth more than 1 USD, more after we had just paid over 400 USD for our stay, plus food and drinks!!!

I was desperate to leave this place, but sadly our car was broken and had to wait for the mechanic to come and figure out what was wrong. The problem with the engine was that the hotel's parking lot is so full of ants that they had decided to extend their nest into our car's electrical system, a little bit of ant spray did the job and left Merida with a horrible memory of this place and that old man yelling at us :-(

Room Tip: Stay away from room 8, it's dark and not very private. The minibar gives electric shocks!!

“Favorite hotel of our vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

There are quite a few adorable boutique hotels hidden behind a plain facade in Merida. What made this hotel stand out was the service, and it was obvious that this hotel is well run. It was very clean, and it is beautiful. Our room was roomy, adorable, and the thing that was really fun was there were hooks that ran across the room and a hammock that you could sleep in. There is a nice pool and a lot of greenery. The included continental breakfast consisted of cafe con leche and fruit and rolls. They were happy to make something more hearty for you if you wanted. The hotel is several blocks off the plaza, but we didn't mind the walk and that made it closer to the Paseo de Montejo in the other direction. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: All the rooms surround a picturesque pool so I don't believe there is a bad room.

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We stayed at the hotel for three nights during a recent trip through Yucatan, and were quite pleased with the experience.
Pluses
- The rooms are big, comfortable and clean
- There is free wireless in the hotel (with a password key)
- You can walk to the center of Merida
- There is free secure parking just in front of the hotel
- Breakfast was good
- The inner courtyard is charming
Downsides
- Just one: the staff at the reception does not speak good English (some hardly at all) which makes it a bit of a challenge to get directions or suggestions. So when the website says that the hotel has ''bilingual staff'', this is not quite accurate. However, we were not much bothered by this and were able to get by on our own
