I contacted the Posada Toledo by e-mail. When we arrived our room was ready and waiting. Room # 25 on the 3rd floor was perfect. The view was very lovely and the antiques were great. Paula speaks wonderful english and gives very accurate directions for anything you need. We had breakfast every morning and it was great. All of the staff at the Posada Toledo was friendly and helpful. We intend to travel there again. Thanks.

I would agree with the other reviewers. This is a beautiful colonial hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The prices are a little higher for rooms with AC (but only by a few dollars), but since it is very hot in Merida (we were there in early September) I recommend AC (if you're there over the summer). Another reviewer mentioned a noisy AC, but the AC in our room was not too loud. You may want to check it before taking a room (they are very good about letting you see the rooms first).

After 3 nights at the Hotel Caribe in Merida, my husband and I chose to try a different hotel. The Posada Toledo is one block north of the Caribe between Parque Hidalgo and Parque Santa Lucia, where many public festivities take place. The Posada is a refurbished old mansion with a courtyard garden and lots of atmosphere. Because there were no other guests our first night, we were given choice of room. We took a suite upstairs with 3 beds, beautiful furniture and windows. It was so quiet and tranquil, we felt we were in our own private little hideaway. It was very hot in Merida, and my only complaint was the noisy air conditioning. If you stay here, make sure the air conditioning is not right over the bed as ours was - we learned a lesson! The 24-hour staff were friendly and Paula spoke English very well. The hotel was less expensive than the Caribe, and more to our tastes. Even if you don't stay there go in for breakfast. It was one of the best, inexpensive breakfasts we had, and the dining room is stately and elegant as befitting a mansion. I would stay there again

This family-owned hotel is a wonderful lesser-known hotel in downtown Merida. A block from the best cafe's and night time shopping, with quaint clean affordable rooms. The staff is small, but very helpful.
The newer rooms on the third floor are very spacious for Merida, complete with a shared patio where you can see a nice panoramic of rooftops and the cathedral spires. This hotel is not for those travellers looking for american-style luxury (go to the Fiesta Americana for that). But the colonial beauty of this hotel (which once was the estate of one of the more influential families in Merida), along with the quiet, clean, air conditioned rooms, make it a truly luxurious stay for the budget traveller. For those familiar with Merida hotels, I feel like the Posada Toledo compares favorably to the more expensive Caribe or Gran Hotels, and is located just a couple of blocks away.
