“Calm, Clean and beautiful”

I stayed in this hotel on a school trip in the late nineties, and recalled it as one of the highlights, so when friends of mine invited me to come to Mexico to tour ruins, I insisted we not only see Merida, but also that we stay here. My memories held up. The hotel rooms can be a bit on the small side, but have clean relatively comfortable beds, baths, television (though we never turned it on..) and air conditioning and are furnished with heavy handcarved wooden furniture. The real beauty of the place is the common areas, the courtyard garden, and the dining room at one end of it. It is a beautiful oasis of calm, after the noise and chaos of the rest of the city. It is only a couple of blocks from the main plaza, and a short walk to the historic district. I know that this is a tourist hotel, but it felt a bit like we got so see a little bit of "real" historic Mexico.
It's an excellent base for going to see the nearby ruins (Uxmal, Loltun Caves, Kabah, Labna, Sayil) and the folks at the desk can help you organize tours.

“Best Memory of Merida”

It has been three years since we stayed at the Posado Toledo and we've never forgotten our two nights there. I remember, even without the 20 photographs, the suite we stayed in - two-three rooms decorated with amazing furniture from Spain and cornices and moldings to envy in any country.
I remember Paula at the desk who collects ball point pens from other places and who did everything to make our stay memorable. Breakfast in the amazing old family dining room was super--I let the waitress choose a typical Merida breakfast. It was so different and delicioso; something with egg and cheese.

We were so excited by our rooms that we met a young German couple and brought them back to show the rooms off.
I really don't know what the rest of the rooms were like. These were the original bedroom/sitting room of the senior owners. Lovely. We're going back this February and bringing friends this time. Janice and Paul from California

  • Liked — The Colonial detail in the rooms.
  • Disliked — Well, lying on the floor to take pictures of the ceiling detail wasn't comfortable.

“Centro location, charming colonial ambience”

Returned to Merida for another wonderful stay at PosadaToledo. Located in the centro, it is within walking distance of all sites to see. The front desk staff will inform you of all cultural events and activities taking place. We were amused to discover, the rooms were all upgraded to include air conditioner,,,,and last year, we were so sure there was an AC on the wall, but couldn't get it to work. Turns out, it is a $5 extra cost, and they give you a remote! Bed bugs are apparently on the rise in hotel rooms around the world, and thought I would mention that this hotel is fumigated once a year, and to date, I have never seen a bug anywhere in this hotel, save a few flies. There is no water cooler, or mini fridge in the rooms, however, we found a cooler in a Meridan-style dollar store, for $5, and that added much comfort on our day trips out of the city. Purchasing water in the local grocery store, was about 1/3 of the price of purchasing water at the ruins, or in convenient locations. Would also recommend a strainer, to make washing fruit etc, easier! Our belongings have always been safe in this hotel, and it is locked at night, with a night clerk who lets you in and out afterhours. All in all, it is my safe haven in Merida, and I will always return, to unwind beside the beautiful garden.

“Disappointing”

We stayed here in the fall of 2006, paying about 50 USD for a "superior" room, insisting that we wanted a quiet room. The hotel is in an old home. Our room was in the original part of the building, off the interior courtyard. Every word that was said at the reception desk or lobby was heard loudly in our room. There was no way to block out the noise, even with a double door. The main lighting in this historic old room was a bare 4-ft fluorescent tube nailed to one wall and it cast a harsh blue light. The hot water in the shower was scalding one day and absent the next. The lock on the door was not secure. The old building has charm, but its implementation as a hotel seems amateurish, and certainly was not worth the price.

“Good value for a one night stay, more character than average”

We stayed at Posada Toledo for one night during our trip. While it is definitely a hotel with a lot of charm, and is a very good value, we found the accomodations to be only average. We did not take advantage of the breakfast, which we hear is excellent. Not seeing what else was available in the price range, it is hard to compare with others, but some details about this one:

LOUD air conditioner, that seemed to have only off/on
TV available
an attempt at artwork was made
charming courtyard
private, secure parking
less-than-comfortable bed

  • Liked — it's price and decor
  • Disliked — the bed
