“At least the bathroom was (fairly) clean”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

As a BW Gold card holder, I was surprised how many things were wrong with this Hotel with a BW name. The facility is old and does not show its age well. There was an odor in the elevator that was horrible. The Hotel and surrounding area is very noisy and the windows and doors of the Hotel rooms do not keep much of the noise out. It does advertise on site parking, but make sure the gate is open or you'll be driving in circles. The parking lot is very small, so if you have a larger sized vehicle- crossover or SUV, be careful as they'll make you back in from a busy small street. The gentlemen supervising the lot was not very hospitable and could not be bothered that you were trying to back a vehicle into a postage stamp sized space.

Front desk staff was helpful and professional but had a problem with the language difference, even though they advertise bi-lingual staff; not that evening anyway.

The room had many scuff marks on the walls, floor trim was cracked and missing and the furniture cushions and bedspread needed cleaning. I initially thought one stain was part of the pattern...

The a/c worked but was loud, which was probably good as it masked the noise coming from the street 5 stories below. Bath was fairly clean except for a long dark hair on the floor; no it wasn't mine.

The bed is typical old school Hotel operator, the hardest bed to last the longest.

Room Tip: stay away from the lower numbered rooms 01, 02 as they are right on top of a noisy street, if you wa...

The pool wasn't available they were fixing it. I think would be nice to advice travelers about any repairs performing at the hotel.

“Mosquito infestation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2008

The hotel is only 3 or 4 blocks from the plaza which is nice. The room was clean but there were mosquitos all over the place. I used a towel to kill them to the best of my ability. I thought that I had killed all of them and realized that I did not when I woke up with bites everywhere. The TV only had 5 or 6 channels that you could view, FOX News was the only english one. I don't think that I would stay here again but I will definately go back to Merida. The city itself is beautiful.

  • Liked — The proximity to the plaza
  • Disliked — The mosquito infestation

“Worn rooms, great front desk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2007

Lovely common areas and the front desk folks spoke english and where very helpful. They first room they took us to was nicely furnished but was on the front and very noisey. They moved us to quiet room, that was well worn, with burn holes in carpet and bedding. Carpet smelled of dirty feet, etc. The resturant was good and reasonably priced. Would not stay here again. Merida was a lovely city, will return.
