“Good value, clean, central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed at Del Gobernador for two nights in December. It's close to the historical center of Merida and a very short walk to see the sights. The hotel itself is basic, but very clean, and the staff is warm and helpful. The room and bathroom were spacious, and the much-needed air conditioner worked perfectly. We appreciated having reliable Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel, although at times the connection was slow (but this is typical in Mexico). The rooms are situated around a lovely open courtyard that has benches and tables. The food at the on-site restaurant is nothing special but comes in large portions, and the staff there are very accommodating and friendly. The one thing I felt was missing was an in-room refrigerator, but overall, our experience here was excellent.

“Value Hotel in Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed here on New Year's Eve and were impressed with the location and cleanliness of the property, and friendliness of the staff.

Our room with two double beds was spacious with a desk, vanity outside the bathroom and a large shower stall in the bath. Check-in was very smooth and the bellman carried our overnight bag up the two flights of stairs.

The desk staff was helpful when we asked for a Plan B restaurant rec (in case Chaya
Maya was too busy) and when we asked about probably locations for some New Year's Eve activity. There was some noise shortly after midnight as the children who were at the hotel had some pinata fun, but that was to be expected and was great to watch. The pool area is very nice. We did not eat in the hotel.

“It´s good for what you pay”

I have been there for two nights, I have just used the rooms, the pool, and safes that are available at the reception, so i cannot talk about the other services. I have no complains, the rooms were clean and spacious, it felt great to dive in the pool after a long day exploring the pyramids. The process of putting and taking values from the receptions safe went smoothly, whenever i wanted to. The hotel is near the center, so it is very easy to visit the center of merida, a little mexican town. If you are looking for a decent hotel with a decent price that allow you to visit merida and explore the nearby ruins, this is a good option!

“OK for 1 night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

Stayed here as part of our Yucatan tour, we had no say in the choice of hotel.

Rooms were quite pleasant however, the downside was that there was no outside window, the window looked out on to the corridor so you had to keep the curtains closed or be on display the whole time. The plus side to this was we didn't hear the street noise.

Had breakfast and an evening meal both were a rather mediocre affair haphazardly served.

“Not the best place to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

I chose this hotel for convenient location to center town plaza and rate. Looked ok on internet for a middle of the road hotel. Price seemed right. I booked an "Executive" room which was a bit more $$ than a standard room and on arrival, was assigned a room just barely big enough for the 2 double beds and a night stand. This standard room was assigned despite the fact that the hotel was nowhere near full on the date I stayed there. AC did not work though it was repaired when I reported it. No hot water in the room. Took cold water showers. Front desk staff were less than friendly and generally rude to indifferent. Bellmen were attentive and helpful. The hotel advertises free wire less internet service. I could not ever get a signal established from my room, occasionally a weak signal from the lobby. Front desk staff acted like they never heard of this before and were indifferent about helping solve the problem. One person finally directed me to the "business Center" which was 1 computer. It was not turned on and once it was, had issues accessing internet as well. I finally found a spot in the restaurant where I could get a reletively strong and consistent wireless signal and had to spend several hours in there taking care of business. It's frustrating that "wireless internet" is advertised as an amenity when clearly it is not available. Room furnishing sub par. For $10 more, one could have stayed at the 4 star Hyatt, Intercontinental, or Fiesta Americana hotels about 1 mile away and still within the city.
