we would consider going back since we are on a budget. This place was not very expensive via a consolidator and was a good deal considering what we spent for the room. Casa Ixchel has amazing potential.

Our room was always clean and the staff very nice and accommodating. the bed not the best, but we are spoiled.The place is in need of maintenance -cant speak for all rooms just the one we booked and common area. with an amazing ocean front location they must up their prices to keep up with the necessary work to prevent rust, wood deterioration, paint and get some furnishings like reading or night lamps- we had to get up from bed to turn the lights out- wifi was great- hot water and pressure best we have ever had. the ocean in front of hotel just littered with ocean debri this happens in beaches were no one ever picks up. weird things we noticed like no place to put the soap while taking a shower so it went on floor, the shower curtain hung too high and the closet dresser had its doors taken down- im all about recycling and making use of a fine piece, just take the hinges down and modify so it looks finished.
we had metal bar stool on either side of our bed could have been used to put some lamps, but looked odd just there with no other purpose. there are no windows in this room so you may only use ac - hallway is just outside the door we would have preferred thicker curtains for privacy- but hotel seemed very quiet so no problem-no tv no problem- no phones no problem-
we wanted to try the restaurant but it looked uninviting although the staff again was very nice.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Casa Ixchel. The location is great, right a the sea and away from the tourist crowds in the center. (At the same time, the center is just a 20 minute stroll away if you want to go there). The pool and porch area as well as the excellent rooftop restaurant have an amazing view of the sea.

The restaurant serves a different menu depending on the time of day and is generally good but especially recommendable for dinner, we had excellent pasta and Filet Mignon there for a very reasonable price. Their cocktails are huge and really good. Another excellent place to eat nearby is the Mango Cafe, just up the road towards the South, max. 10 minute walk. (Their Coconut French Toast and the Jamaican BBQ are amazing!)

Our room "Love" was small but really pretty. The bed hangs on thick ropes which gives you the impression to sleep on a really big, comfortable hammock. Combine this with the sound of crashing waves at night... just wonderful. It also has a really big tub that easily fits two people. However, be aware that the room is tiny, there is very little closet space and there is only a curtain between the bed and the toilet. So you either have to be really comfortable around the person you are travelling with or one of you has to sit outside every now and then and watch the sea for a while. :-) Other than that, there is really nothing bad to say about this place. Clean room, towels and sheets, friendly staff that respects your privacy, great food, great location... we loved it.

This was our first stay here and we couldn't have chosen a better place. The staff were all friendly and the hotel is well-managed and clean. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a suite (Grace I) which is a fully equiped and spacious one bedroom apartment with an enormous hotub! Although it doesn't have a sandy beach you can swim in the sea at the hotel or the town beaches (and centre) are a short walk or golf cart ride away.

Also, the restaurant is superb - we treated ourselves to the Mar Y Tierra (surf and turf) on our first night and it was so good we had it again before leaving a few nights later.

Will definitely return.

Me and my bf found this place by driving around isla mujeres in a small golf car, we were staying at a 5 star resort in cancun when we stopped by curiosity for food at DA LUISA restaurant right above CASA IXCHEL, we were so impressed by the restaurant, the food and the service that we decided to take a look at the hotel, we thought that with such great food was worth the look, and OMG! they had such fantastic rooms and suites that we couldnt avoid take a chance and be adventurous and stay one night to try it, dont forget we had a 5 star room awaiting for us in cancun lol... we had such a great time, so relaxing so calm so beautiful that next morning after a delicious breakfast we head to out hotel in cancun just to grab some clothes and came right back to casa ixchel lol we stayed there for what was left of our stay in cancun, we pretty much abandoned the 5 star resort to go enjoy casa ixchel lol now in november we have a full week reserved at casa ixchel. forget about the 5 stars they really cannot match up this place, beautiful rooms, suites, amazing service, amazing people running this place, the food is by far the best i have had in my life, and the sunsets in this side of the island are just heavenly...is such an agony lo leave, im counting the days till im back! i highly recommend this place for all those looking for relaxation, romantic atmosfere and privacy...dont forget the food and nice drinks! enjoy!
