“Best Vacation of My LIFE!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2009

I have visited Isla Mujeres 3 times prior to this last visit. This time, we were going to stay for 10 days. The first 5 days we stood in Hotel Cabanas Maria Del Mar in Playa Norte. We were with a group of friends, so the location was perfect. One day, we were driving around the island an came upon the floating house. Directly in front of it was Villas Hi Na Ha. We decided to look around. The grounds were gorgeous as were the rooms! We decided that for our last 5 days on the island we would stay there. This was the best idea! I completely fell in love with the villa and the location. In the morning, we were served breakfast right by the pool, some fruit, coffee, eggs, etc. It was fantastic! During the day, we lounged out on the beach had some beer courtesy of Sergio (he cooked the breakfast, cleaned the pool, served the beer, basically helped take care of the place, GREAT person), he even let us plug in our ipod the speakers so we can listen to some nice Bosa Nova and Gypsy Kings right by the water. I took a dip in the pool which is a few steps up from the beach. At night, the sunset was one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL sunset I've seen. If you have seen the sunsets at Playa Norte, you will understand the beauty of sunsets on Isla. Hammocks and couches line the pool area, beautiful flowers and gardens, full of color...I have no complaints at all. Carlos the owner of the place was a fabulous host and I thank him for making our stay super comfortable and relaxing.

I was looking for a place where I can relax, get inspiration to write and just clear my mind of my busy life in New York City. I can honestly say, without a doubt, that Villas Hi Na Ha was that exact place. If I created the place myself, it couldn't have been any more perfect. I will definitely stay there hopefully EVERY time I vist Isla. Just an FYI - Carlos the owner is very helpful and the so-so reviews are probably from people that visited the place years ago before Hurricane Wilma hit the island. The place has been renovated since. If you are looking to stay there, please feel free to email me (mlbellaro@gmail.com) and I can send you my personal photos of the Villa.

Michele & Anthony :)

“Not what it may seem - Beware”

I sincerely hope that anyone considering this property reads this review and takes it very seriously. We did not stay at this property. We resrved and prepaid for our rooms as required. When we showed up, the hotel looked abosolutely nothing like the photos. It appeared that the photos were taken a long time ago - before the place was run into the ground. The "owner" we had spoken to and paid prior to arriving was not on the property and the man we spoke with said he was the real owner and the other man had only been renting from him. He told us a sob story about having been taking for a ride by the man who rented the place from him and about how the man who rented the place ran it into the ground. He had no infomration about our reservation or our payment. Since we had all of the information with us, the "real" owner said he would honor the payment and we could stay there, but we did not want to. The place was moldy, the beautiful rooms shown in the pictures are not what the rooms look like at all. The real rooms have stained bed covers, the white wouches are actually almost brown they are so badly stained. The palapa bar was broken down, and obviously has not been used for many years. We believe this place is a good scam. We were there a year and a half ago and I have been reading about this place online since. Please, please, beware of this place. There are several reviews that say it is great but I believe they are bogus reviews. Some of these reviews appeared around the same time as when we were there and I know there is no way anyone stayed there and thought it was lush and beautiful, etc. I would sincerely hate for anyone to have the experience we did at this place and to lose money as we did.

“Never ever again”

Read the most recent review and was dumbfounded how someone could have the totally opposite experience that we had. Although the broken english was interesting considering it was written by a Canadian and oddly the picture posted was off the hotels website. Was very unhappy with the hotel, needs MAJOR updating, repairs to both the water and air conditioning are necessary, both were sporadic at best during our week there. Did stay in a villa but found it to be very very tired, loose tiles, horrible linens, generally not too clean. Be advised that the hotel itself has virtually no beach, there is a SMALL mandmade sandy area with steps into the water. Good luck!

“very relaxing”

We just returned from a week at this bed and breakfast. I was very nervous after reading so many bad reviews. We have stayed at Nautibeach on this island , this place is very different. The good things are;our room was clean and comfortable. Good air conditioning, the pool was small but very clean, the breakfast every day on the beach was very good. Frank. the caretaker is pleasant and did all he could to make our stay good. He brought me fresh orange juice every day. There is a hotel next door that has a great buffet every day for lunch. It is quiet and secluded. The bad is there is no beach, none. There was no TV or radio. The cab ride was $6.00 each way to town so dinner could get expensive. There are some hotels to walk to that serve dinner. If you want to relax this place is fine. The view is beautiful and the gardens are great. If you want a livelier time go to the north beach. North beach was a zoo while we were there. Mexico was on a two week holiday and the whole country was there.( there is no bar or restaurant at this hotel, there used to be but it is closed)
