We stayed at this facility last year after the hurricane. We agreed with the reviews we found on this site at the time. We paid $60/night and that included breakfast.
This year the place was in worse shape than last year after the hurricane! The pool was dirty. We had standing water in the bathroom from leaks in the plumbing under the sink. The air conditioner leaked into the room as well. At least until it went up in flames and black smoke! Maid service was spotty at best, actually more like non-existent. We had to go to the desk for towels every day. There were obviously people in and out of room when we were gone, as evidenced by our belongings being moved around and other things. Beds in Mexico are generally very firm on their cement platforms, but these beds were exceptionally awful!
Finally, on day four (after the AC blew up) I discussed all of the issues with the desk clerk and he offerred us a different room. It had 1/2" of standing water in the bathroom, obviously leaking from the toilet tank. The mattresses were concave and may have been salvaged from the hurricane. This "good room" was much worse than what we already had!
My son and daughter-in-law were also staying there and I am convinced they had the only room without major problems. Although they had the same concern that people were in their room when they left. Not maid service though: they didn't have maid service even once.
I think that when we stayed here last year it was called the Mar Azul. This year it was called the Perla de Carribe. When we checked out the manager/owner? told us he was closing the hotel, although we had noticed him renting out rooms that morning. He said there were just too many problems.
