“What's the Hype all about?”

This is not a great place. We arrived in town late and this was the only hotel with a room on the island. The price is wonderful ($40 US during holidays), but the throng of drinkers wearing bed sheets for a toga party and late night partiers was not. A great place if you want to drink and party late into the night, but not otherwise.

Juat got back from Isla Mujeres, stayed,as always, at the Vistlmar. I had a great time, I made some new friends, did a little fishing, and just relaxed. The food, the people, the weather, all just to great. I wish I could have stayed longer but it was getting close to Christmas. I wasn't gone more than a couple of days and missed being there. I think I'll try to get back again in February if all goes as planned.

“Good value for the budget category”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2006

Me and my girlfriend stayed in Vistalmar (not Vistamar) during two periods in February 2006. First for 3 day and a week later just for 2 days, both times we would have stayed for longer had they had empty rooms.

For the 200-300 pesos you pay per night you get very good value. We stayed in similar budget places in Cancun Centro, Playa Del Carmen and Isla, and Vistalmar was probably the best place in this category. We did have a cockroach in the bathroom one night, but you can't escape them around this place and the maid spent 30 minutes cleaning the room every day so it certainly wasn't her fault.

Vistalmar have pleasant seating areas outside the rooms and the location right on Rue Medina overlooking the docks and small marina is amazing. You are in walking distance from everywhere in town. The hotel seems to have a lot of repeat guests, mainly over 40 year old Canadians, who come for a few weeks or even months. They all seemed very friendly with each others, and being the only people under 30 we felt a little excluded from the atmosphere. It was as if they all knew each other and we weren't welcome in their little paradise.

One tip if you want to stay here during high season is phone them in advance. A lot of the cheaper hotels around downtown on Isla fill their very few empty rooms up very early in the day, and we saw many backpackers walking around late at night having come off the last boat and not being able to find anywhere for the night easily.

“Irish traveller”

I have to agree with the other reivew. This is an inexpensive hotel, and you will most certainly have better things to do with your holiday cash than spend a fortune on accomodation. Maybe it would not have been as great if it was really really full, I was there off season, but cheap and cheerful as we say in Ireland and Britain and the staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoy the island its the nicest place ive been

i love this place...if you think expensive means awesome....then your wrong, becauswe this places beats any other place in mexico no matter the amount of money you spend....it isnt about being in an awesome hotel though, because u arent always going to be there..your gonna be outside. Be smart and spend your money on other things than a big expensive hotel.
