“Basic, clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2010

The Vistalmar is a very basic hotel...exactly what you pay for so don't expect a fancy resort. Our room consisted of 2 small double beds, a vanity, bedside table, closet and bathroom. The shared veranda is a great place to sit and start or end your day. Everyone we met was very friendly and always said Hi! Our room was on the 2nd floor towards the back of the hotel, so we had no problem with noise at all. The only negatives I could find was the lack of places to put your clothes and that the bathrooms could use a bit of updating...our sink only had a cold tap and the facilities were dated, but they worked so I can't really complain. For the price we paid we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was always spotlessly clean and we will definitely return.

“Depressing high-rise slum”

Yes it's cheap - but for a reason. It's the most depressing building: the rooms look like they rent them out by the hour, the landings are full of people sitting around in plastic chairs drinking and out the back is a view of a rubbish tip. All in all, it reminded me of a run-down housing estate.
Oh, and if you're over 5'6" you won't be able to sit down on the loo as it's too close to the wall. Enjoy.

“Nice place, but...”

We stayed at the Vistalmar in March and thought it was very nice for the price. That is until the sun went down and suddenly the large communal balcony in front of our room became the gathering spot for large groups of loud, long term live-in guests. It seems there are many people who come every year and have a sense of ownership of the common areas--which is a shame. We were even told by one man that "that's the price you pay for staying in room #203", after asking him to please not approach our window and try to look in. It was so bazaar and annoying that we stayed a couple nights and then moved on. Unfortunate because those front rooms are by far the nicest/largest of the non-AC rooms, but any sense of privacy or respect for other guests was lost to the "live-ins".

“Be Sure To Look Up Santa”

Stayed last 2 years in Feb. for 10 days. Great value $40 US per day very clean A.C.(which worked well) and maid service every day. Thats on the 1st floor. The 2nd and 3rd floors are between $20-$25 per night but no A.C.(which is not neccesary as the Sea is right accross the street and a nice breeze is blowing all the time) If you go in February the Lobster is in season and there is none better and the price is right. All the Food is very good and not out of site on the prices. The hotel is right on the best beach in the wrold, white sand an crystal clear blue water. Will be headed down there next Feb to the Vistalmar..By the way Santa Claus has been spending his winter vacation here (after the Christmas Rush) in February for the last 15 years.

“What's the Hype all about?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2007

This is not a great place. We arrived in town late and this was the only hotel with a room on the island. The price is wonderful ($40 US during holidays), but the throng of drinkers wearing bed sheets for a toga party and late night partiers was not. A great place if you want to drink and party late into the night, but not otherwise.
