“50's style family-owned hotel - Central location in Isla Mujeres”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2010

Stayed there one night, but would have add an other one if we didn't have a reservation in an other city the following night.
The hotel is well situated on the Island, not even 2 minutes walk to the beach, scuba diving shops (try Oceanic), bicycle rental shops, and many restaurants (try Picus).
The family that owns the place gives a great service (only in Spanish) and accept to keep your luggage even after check-out.
The only suggestion would be to do some work in the bathroom since ours had some mildew problems and unsafe apparent-wires lighting connections (just on top of the shower).
Besides that, we really recommand this place that present a good quality-price, especially for this highly touristic location.

“Not bad, bit noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2009

The hotel itself is clean and well maintained. However it only has shutters as windows so it can be a bit noisy from about 7.00 on with the traffic outside, or earlier with the Americans. Good location, pretty cheap , generally good if you don't mind getting up early as it's very quiet at night.

“Cheap, Safe, Great Location & Clean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2009

Please keep in mind that this is not a fancy resort type place. That being said, it is a clean, friendly hotel 1 block off of the beach. I went to Isla Mujeres with my 2 children (I'm female) and felt very safe. The hotel owners live downstairs in the hotel, and sit outside most of the day and evening and have a small gate at the entrance so that people cannot just walk in off the street. They speak mostly Spanish, but some English. For a triple room I paid $300 Mexican Pesos, about $24USD right now!! It was a great deal. The hotel was clean - did not see any insects or things crawling around. The linens were a bit worn, and the beds are not high quality, but we slept great. There is noise from outside from people, mopeds, and cars late into the night, so bring ear plugs (we slept ok without).

There wasn't a safe in the room, but I never asked if the owners had one in the small office. I would definately return here, as it is an inexpensive place to lay your head and centrally located to everything. It's no frills, but clean.

Quick note: The walking directions from a previous review are perfect - we used them to get to the hotel. To get to the island, we took the cheapest way possible to save money - from the Airport we took an ADO shuttle to the downtown bus/tour bus station ($40Mexican Pesos each), and from there crossed the street and took a "collectiva" local bus for $5Mexican Pesos each to Puerto Juarez to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres. For the collectiva just stand with everyone else, and when you see one that has "Puerto Juarez" written on it, wave it down and get in.

Can't wait to go back in March!

“Perfect for what we wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2007

Just came back from a week in Mexico, (first 4 days in Isla Mujeres)--two couples celebrating our 50th birthdays. We had read reviews of Hotel Osorio and a number of other places before we went to Isla Mujeres, but hadn't booked anything, thinking (rightly!), that we'd be able to get something when we got there.

We checked into a hotel right on the beach the first night because we arrived late. Can't remember the name of it, but it was just okay--basic rooms with a fan (no a/c), and a nice pool. It was $55/night per room. We checked out the next morning and roamed the streets checking on some prices, looking at rooms.

Hotel Osorio was just what we were looking for! Only $25/night and although the rooms were very basic--two double beds, bathroom with shower only, ceiling fan--they were spotlessly clean. I think the beds in my husband's and my room were just boxsprings (and our friends' beds were just mattresses, so I guess they made 4 beds out of 2), but we slept comfortably anyway. It can be loud sometimes at night, as people make their way home along the street below, but the noise didn't disturb me at all, and my husband had earplugs, so didn't mind it either. If you're sensitive to noise--I'd recommend earplugs.

Our building, (which is across the street from the main hotel), has a big patio on the second floor (we were on the third floor), and we were able to sit out there at night for our 'happy hour' and a card game--very nice.

Only about one block from the beach, and right around the corner from great, authentic restaurants and the heartbeat of Isle Mujeres, this was a great place to stay for the price. Don't expect luxury!

“Basic Rooms - Great Deal”

When you leave the yellow ferry dock, take a left on the main street and the Osorio is on the next street to the right (Av. Madero). It is on the left in the first block. You DO NOT need a taxi or anything It is about 2 minutes walking. I have stayed there 4 times at different times of the year. It is NO FRILLS -- no tv, no phone, no air. The family also owns the building across the street and it has air, however, I've never seen the rooms. The building has wooden shutters you open to catch the breeze. The bathrooms are old, but fine. I felt very secure there and will definately stay there again. Their web page says $22 a night, howver they've always charged just $20 USD w/ tax when I've been. The family is very nice; no English.
