“Beach was best part”

This was our first time to Isla Mujeras. We found the island very charming and the hotel is located near many shops and restaurants. The best part of the hotel is the beach. The pool area is very nice, however the pool was really cold and we didn't even swim in it, which didn't really matter to us, because the beach area is so nice. The sand is so soft, the water is clear, there were always chairs and the bar and little grill is right there. We personally didn't think the food was good, but others we traveled with did. We went on to another resort in Cancun later and the food was much better. The rooms were huge and very nice and modern, we were really impressed. Two complaints we have is we had reserved a private shuttle from the airport through the hotel and no one showed up, so we ended up getting a taxi. This was really stressful as we were just standing outside the airport waiting and getting bombarded by other shuttle companies. When I told the hotel they didn't apologize or anything. The other complaint is we paid for an upgraded room with a jacuzzi on the balcony and didn't have that, but we were happy with the rooms anyway, just had paid for a different room. These things did't ruin our stay. If you plan to visit Isla Mujeras, we would recommend this hotel. However, after visiting this area of Mexico 3 times, I would stay in the Riviera Maya over Cancun or Isla Mujeras.

Aluxes was an amazing place to stay. The staff was so thoughtful and friendly. There are 3 restaurants you can go to all with great food. The hotel is located on the nicest part of the beach and within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend Aluxes and can't wait to go back!

“Just got back! GREAT place!”

HOTEL-Great location, their beach is beautiful, lots of chairs and day beds
-pool hours 8am to 7pm
-turn the air-on then you arrive!
-Jacuzzi are supposed to be only used until 11:30 pm, that’s when the lights go out, but we used it past that time …tip: take a dishwasher tablet with you and put it in the Jacuzzi before you use it and clean it out (rec’d from a previous guest)
-king bed was very comfortable, the sheets had a ‘plastic’ feel, maybe too much bleach/starch, but clean!...and the room was clean and bathroom as well, except the marble floors were not very clean…wear shoes/flip flops!

“Amazing resort for a relaxing and perfect vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My boyfriend and I vacationed here 2 years in a row, and both times exceeded our expectations. We're both in the hotel business, so we are admittedly hotel-snobs. Let's be honest, you usually get what you pay for. In this case, you get A LOT MORE than you pay for. While you won't get a 5 star hotel with all the bells and whistles, you will come very close!

The service is hit (90% of the time) or miss (10% of the time). Highly recommend buying the inclusive package because it pays for itself with breakfast and drinks alone. Keeping in mind what we paid, the food is very good, with a good variety. Room service was very fast - we only waited for our food to arrive for 15 minutes on a few occasions. Grounds and rooms are kept very clean. Pools are about the same temperature as the ocean, and unfortunately the "hot" tubs are too. When you're at the beach, bring your chair down to the ocean (all chairs are set about 50-100 feet away from the water so that the servers are closer to the bar and kitchen). Although you won't get food and drink service, the ocean breeze is a million times nicer and really cools you off from the sun's heat.

Although it was difficult to convince ourselves to leave the beach during the day, we're very glad we did. Make sure you rent a scooter (the main mode of transportation for most locals) or golf cart for 2-3 hours. Drive around the island, visit the Turtle Museum, and enjoy the views. Bring binoculars - the views and sunsets are outstanding. Go to the national park at the southern tip of the island, which has more amazing views and you can walk around the water's edge. Very neat experience.

All in all, this is definitely the place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing vacation. If you're looking for a Cancun-style week long vacation, this is NOT for you. It's true that the town pretty much shuts down after 10/11pm. If you're looking for a quiet, leisurely, sun-filled break, you'll be hard pressed to find a better location in the same price-point.

Room Tip: Request a high floor overlooking the ocean. As many other reviews noted, rooms either overlook (1) t...
