“A hidden gem”

Although few have heard of this place and we would rather keep it our secret we can't stay all the time, so, the secret is out. This is the perfect place for couples or families with older kids (under 14 not allowed) who want to be in a quiet hotel but close to everything. It is perfect for divers or those wanting to do their own thing on the island. The owners, Jerry & Leona, are wonderful people. They visited with us at nights and lunch at the outdoor kitchen. One night they even took all the guests to supper. On the other hand they are not so nosey that they are all in your business but are helpful should you need anything. Truthfully this place would not be what it is without them.
The rooms and grounds are spotless. Each room has a small refrigerator and there is a large one in the outdoor kitchen that is shared by guests. Commodities are provided and each guest has a bin in the kitchen to keep bread, etc. We enjoyed breakfast and lunch here saving alot of money. The inn is only a few minutes from both of the major grocery stores so it is easy to purchase what you need and cook on site. If you prefer to eat out there are numerous restaraunts within walking distance. The dive pier pickup at Hotel Barracuda is about a 10 minute walk or a $4 cab ride.
The gate is kept locked at all times and the place is very secure. There is a dive gear rinse and storage area along with areas to sun or relax. Wi-fi is available for $10/week and worked OK, maybe a little slow. The beds were comfortable and we had TV which we rarely watched as we spent our time visiting with other guests on the roof.
Other than having to climb stairs with luggage (common in Cozumel) the only two negatives were actually what made the place more positive for us. One is there is not a pool. This would be bad if you are a pool person that didn't dive or had kids. The lack of a pool was a plus for us as it would attract more guests and cause the price here to go up. The other "negative" is that it is not on the "beach" (if there is really such a thing this close to town). Again this allows for affordable rates and makes it a much quieter place to stay. You can see cruise ship pier from the roof/kitchen but its by no means a true ocean view. If they had a pool and were on the beach either the price would be double or you couldn't book as there would be a waiting list.
We like this place so much we were planning our return next year prior to leaving. Hopefully it won't be difficult to get a room because the secret will not be kept forever.

Room Tip: If you have issues with stairs request a downstairs room as there is no elevator (this is Mexico). T...

“best deal in cozumel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

this was our second visit to cozumel staying at the Coral Reef Inn, and I must say this hotel is the best deal in cozumel, it is very well kept, it is clean by our standards not Mexican standard, the rooms are big and comfortable, air conditioning as well as fans, the best roof top patio ever, very close to everything, very safe and secure, and Leona and Jerry are very very very friendly and accommodating they make this place the Gem that it is, and we met a lot of very nice people on the roof top patio, they have bikes for rent, as well as laundry service. It just does not get any better, we stayed at a hotel in Playa for $95.00 a night, which was nice but not as nearly as nice as the Coral Reef Inn, We will definitely be back and soon!!!!!!

Room Tip: they are all good

“Excellent Inn for divers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We booked Coral reef Inn as a last minute trip for a dive holiday to allow us to escape from the Winter of Mexico city. The clean room and bathroom with lashings of hot water were exactly to our taste. We spent our week diving and enjoyed the quiet ambience of the Inn, to get a good nights sleep between our active days of diving. The self catering for breakfast meant that we did not waste time in the morning waiting to be served, but simply ate and went.
We can fully recommend this Inn for any divers looking for quiet lodging with facilities to clean / dry their gear and go self catering.

Excellent value and friendly owners / managers.

Room Tip: All rooms have AC.

“clean and quiet, great value”

we took a last minute trip to czm because there was no snow on the west coast and we opted to dive instead. we spent 2 nights at the Coral Reef. our friends were at the Barracuda and they had no rooms available, so we stayed here because it was close to them. the Coral Reef property is ultra clean. the hosts unobtrusive and helpful. the property looks very new, and is very well kept. we had a king bed in our room (#4) on the second floor. it faced the street and was very quiet. the room had a spacious bathroom and shower, always hot water. there was clean drinking water available and a pitcher for your room. the room had a fan, ac, a fridge, a cupboard, and a REALLY comfortable king bed with good linens and pillows. the common areas have a library, some notebooks with local menus and recommendations for eating.

we did not use the rooftop kitchen, but it was super and well-stocked with an honor bar. There is a huge grocery store 2-3 blocks away. the roof also has bins for rinsing diving gear if you need. we did not use the internet, but were told that it would cost $10 US for your entire stay. it is an easy walk to the plaza area of town, and we felt very safe in the neighborhood.

we paid in cash upon arrival, and it was about $120 dollars for 2 nights, which was with a cash discount.

we subsequently moved to the Barracuda to be with our friends and be on the ocean, but if you don't need to be close to the sea, the Coral Reef
rooms are extremely comfortable, immaculately clean, and a great value with open air common areas and a friendly, laid-back vibe.

Room Tip: rooftop kitchen is on the 3rd floor. the rooms are on the ground or 2nd floor. if you want to use th...

“Friendly, clean, affordable”

We couldn't be happier with our experience at the Coral Reef Inn. The inn is walking distance to everything including a lot of great little eateries that most people staying on the main strip don't get the chance to experience. Jerry and Leona are fantastic hosts and make you feel relaxed and at home right down to inviting you into their home when you have questions and letting you play with their dogs. The housekeeping lady does a great job of keeping everything immaculate. We met some really great people while we were there and had a lot of fun just hanging out on the roof top with other guests. This place really caters to divers and has more of a home feel than a party atmosphere like the place the dive boat picks up from. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to where the dive boats pick you up if you book with dive paradise. The diving was fantastic and it was great having the rinse station at the hotel for gear afterwards. When we come back to Cozumel there's no way we would consider staying anywhere else. I really can't recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great. If having wifi in your room is important then don't stay on the fir...
