We rented a beachfront villa using At Home in Cozumel as the management company. The staff at At Home are OK, but the property that we got was not what we were hoping for. We were expecting a luxurious beachfront villa and what we got was an adequate beachfront villa.

The bad:

1) TV, DVD Player, Stereo System: What you get is a 15-inch bargain basement Daewoo television that doesn't respond to the remote control. It never did work, however, this may have been due to recent hurricane damage to the cable lines. There was no DVD player or VHS for that matter, so television of any sort was out of the question. The stereo was another bargain basement boom-box piece of junk.

2) Every square inch of the villa was painted white and the paint was dingy in many places. The whiteness was exacerbated by the flourescent bulbs used in the fixtures... awful.

3) There were armies of ants that marched out of the wall sockets every morning... an interesting substitute for television.

4) Pool was dirty. One of my friends actually repaired the filtration system himself so we could get the prolific number of bugs out of the water.

5) The ladder into the ocean was on the bottom of the ocean. Might have been hurricane related.

6) No central air. The place used several window air conditioners which were annoyingly noisy.

7) Decor was virtually non existent. Furniture was ugly and oversized, and placement of the FEW items of decor was absurd. There was one (1) indoor plant in the entire place.

8) Freezer wreaked of fish.

9) Mexicans haven't learned that putting masking tape on glass for a hurricane is useless, and the management left the tape on the hard to reach windows. The blinds were broken and hanging haphazardly as well.


The Good:

View was great, minus the hurricane tape obstructions. Place was decently clean and interestingly architected.

Overall:

It's a shame that the owners of this place don't take better care of it. It's a beautifully architected home, but it is in desperate need of updates... even simple ones like PAINT. Seeing a teeny television screen in a large room with 30 foot ceilings irked me, but it didn't work anyway so I guess the point was moot. They had a full week after the hurricane to remove tape and make simple repairs.... Things were generally in disrepair, and it was clear that only the bare minimum would be done to keep the place rentable. I would never ever rent from this management company again. They didn't do anything grossly unfair per se, but I think the properties are misrepresented on their website.
