My wife and I, along with another couple, recently returned from a wonderful vacation to the Mayan Riviera. One of the highlights of our trip was the incredible Snorkeling Tour that we took on Cozumel with dive master Roswitha Flury. In advance, I knew that we wanted to snorkel on the reef off of Cozumel but we did not want to join a large tour, of which there are many to choose from. Through the website, "MyCozumel", I found Rosie's snorkeling tour. All arraingments for the tour were done by e-mail, plus we mailed a $50 cashiers check deposit to her P.O. Box in Florida, to secure our reservation.
On Monday, January 2nd, we took the 8:00 am ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel. We arrived at the dock at about 8:50 am and, following Rosie's emailed instructions, we took a cab to the harbor where her boat was docked. The cabbie knew right where to go (about ten minutes south of the ferry dock) and we arrived at the harbor at about 9:00 am. As we drove through the gate, Rosie was waiting for us with open arms.
She outfitted us with the snorkeling gear and we immediately embarked on our snorkeling adventure. She took us about 30 minutes south of the harbor to a spot that she and her boat captain knew very well. We started with shallow snorkeling as she assessed our skills and then she took use to two ther spots that were progressively deeper and increasingly fantastic. We saw great sights. Many fish of all kinds and colors and fabulous coral columns and formations.
We snorkeled for about three hours or until the most hardy of us was exhausted, and then she fed us a marvelous snack of fresh fruit and juice and we headed back to the harbor. The whole tour lasted about four hours.
On previous vacations, I have beach snorkeled from Cozumel, I have tour snorkeled at Molekini Crater in Hawaii, and I have joined a larger tour to snorkel off of Isla Mujeres. The snorkel tour with Rosie was by far the best I have experienced. Rosie is warm and personable and was very knowledgible about the best snorkeling spots around Cozumel. She was willing to tailor the length and difficulty of our tour to suit our strenghts and she was a lot of fun to be with. It is my understanding that she has lived on Cozumel for more than 20 years and she is a certified scuba instructor.
I would highly recommend her tour and we will visit her again upon our next visit.
