“Almost Brilliant”

I see there have not been any reviews for quiet some time. Let me update the status and I believe that it use to be a B&B but now is a hostel. My stay was in November 2011 and I was paying 12 USD per night for a dorm bed.

Lets start with the good. There are spacious dorms and huge lockers, big enough to fit large backpacks or medium size suitcases. Everything was cleaned every day. There is a small swimming pool which was lovely. It had accompanying sun beds with mattresses. There was a covered verandah / lounge witch had cable TV and board games. The kitchen is fairly well stocked with utensil but it had no basics (free or for sale). For example there was no tea or coffee which many top hostels do have.

Once you have booked the hostel sends you an email with detailed instructions of how to get to the hostel as well as how to get to Cozumel. A great touch I though.

The location is not great, a good 15 minute walk to the center of town. Bicycles and scooters are not cheap to rent on Cozumel either, 12 and 20 USD per day respectively. If the hostel could get some bicycles for rent at a more reasonable 5 USD a day I think this would make the location much better as well as providing some extra income.

The major let own for me was that the wi-fi did not work the whole 5 days I was there. Wifi is standard for any decent hostel these days. Cozumel is not a party island so people come more to relax and scuba dive. Therefore, not having a reliable wifi and with the remote location, my rating dropped from one of the top few hostel I have stayed at, down to a good hostel.

“Clean, Safe and Cheap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

We stayed at Amigo's May 31 - June 3. We are a family of 4 (the kids are age 9 and 6). We drove to Amigo's from the airport. As it was my first time driving in Cozumel, we took a few wrong turns before we got there. Evidently, there's no such thing as zoning in Cozumel as Amigo's is tucked between an upholstery shop, a convenience store and residences in various states of repair. There's parking room at the curb for probably 2 or 3 cars. Since we were the only guests, parking was very convenient.

Inside the gates, the grounds are lush and well maintained. They have a great pool for such a small inn. Mosquitos are a bit of a problem at dusk, so use repellant. The fans in the common area are also helpful. The room was spotless and comfortable. The AC works great. The kids each had a single bed and we had a king. Water pressure was about what you'd expect from a Carribean island (not much) but the hot water supply was more than sufficient. Breakfast was ok (bread, cereals, fruit, juices), but if you prefer hot breakfasts, you'll have to get it elsewhere. Purified drinking was was available in the common area.

The neighborhood was quiet enough. There's some noise from the street and the neighbors, but never such that it woke us. The neighborhood has none of the resort type atmosphere that we gringos have come to expect, but it's safe and very economical. It's about a 15 minute walk to the main tourist area of town. Cheap restaurants are available nearby. The restaurants at the waterfront are significantly more expensive. I'm not sure that we got the best service they can offer as the hostess (Kathy) was away due to a family emergency during our stay, but the host (Bob) was available when we needed him.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay for us. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't require an ocean view and cable TV. If you're staying in Cozumel for more than a day or two, it will really save you a lot of money over any of the big resorts.

“Best of the Best, Clean, Spacious, Environmentally Friendly, Wonderful Grounds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2010

I stayed at Amigos for only 3 nights and 4 days because my other accomodations were booked - and I'm glad I did - no offense to my other accomodations.

Kathy was extremely helpful and explained everything included answering my many questions - and I can have many annoying enquiring mind questions.

The freshly brewed coffee, fresh fruits and variety of breakfast items plus good conversation with other guests every breakfast was an extremely welcome treat.

The grounds were awesome. The exterior blandness belies the beauty of the interior. The grounds on the interior are laid out with the units around the edges and a tropical wooded area with stone pathway through the middle and pool off to one side. There was even a spot to dry my dive gear the day before leaving.

The room was huge, included a kitchen area, environmentally friendly waste disposal.

The only one thing I could suggest is televisions in the room instead of a common tv in the common area.

Other then that it was more then value for the money.

“Our Cozumel Oasis”

In July my wife and stayed at Amigos for the 2nd time in two years and intend to make it
a part of any future trips to Cozumel. Our first attempt to travel this year was thwarted at the last minute but Kathy and Bob were gracious enough to give us full credit on a rebookedstay.
Amigos is located on a quiet residential street within a modest walking distance to the central square of San Miguel . An unassuming front disguises a jewel of a garden withan absolutely beautiful pool. The rooms are clean and comfortable .Breakfast provided is simple and light which suits my wife and I just fine.
Since it was the off season only one other couple was there for the first two days
of our visit after that we had the place to ourselves. All in all a great little place and a super value

“We Had a Great Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2009

My wife and I just got back from Cozumel Mexico, and stayed at Amigo's Bed & Breakfast for 3 nights. What a great time we had!! This is the third time we stayed there, and it is still a good value!!! (Could use a little paint, and updated appliances)

This B&B, is clean, the food is good, and the staff is friendly. Kathy provides home baked muffins!!

We were able to walk to the main plaza, waterfront, and grocery store. The wireless Internet (In the common area) was strong enough to operate our Magic Jack, so we telephone service to and from home. There is a chicken BBQ around the corner, that is Fantastic!! ($6.00 USD per whole chicken) The meal included chicken, noodle soup, spaghetti, Rice, and plenty of tortillas. We had enough left for lunch the next day.

We felt as though Amigo's Bed & Breakfast was our home away from home.

We would stay with them again!!
