“Best trip ever to Mexico.”

We had a wonderful time. The staff was great and very friendly. I would gladly talk to anyone considering spending time at this beautiful get away. We didn't want to leave and would be grateful for another holiday at Club Caribe. It has everything we wanted. Great food, beautiful ocean, snorkeling but, what really made the stay were the people who graciously went out of their way to help and take care of us.

“awesome honeymoon adventure”

Just wanted to say: My husband and I are getting ready to celebrate our 22nd anniversary on Nov. 7 and spent our honeymoon at Club Cozumel Caribe. We had the most wonderful time. The hotel was beautiful, clean and the staff was awesome. This is the first time I looked up this website since our trip in 1987 and from what I can see: this hotel is still beautiful. We have wonderful memories from this hotel and we hope to come back one day to stay at Club Cozumel Caribe. I would highly recommend this hotel to all of my friends.

Thank you for the memories- Carolyn and Keith Roberts

“Exactly what we were looking for”

Let me state this at the beginning, this place is ugly on the outside. If you can get past that, this is a great place to stay.

We booked through "At Home in Cozumel." I think that may be the only way to book these rooms, they were very thorough, great experience. We took a studio, room 1047. The view from the room is excellent. The grounds are fairly nice. The South side is pretty much junk left over from the hurricane. The beach is ok, pretty typical of most beaches on Cozumel. There is one main pool and a small pool that was empty every time I saw it. The water has decent snorkeling, plenty of small fish, some barracuda but not much of a reef.

As others mentioned there is a rock climbing "adventure center." It was never bothersome to us and shuts down early anyways. The restaurant "Bocadillos" was pretty good but a little more expensive then I was expecting. The service was good but we only ate there once as we found much better deals in town. It never seemed very crowded around the hotel, always plenty of open spots to lounge around.

The room itself was fine. For a studio it was pretty large and kept very clean. We didn't try cooking but everything seemed to work. The only complaint with the room was the hot water, it didn't seem to last long. One of the two elevators wasn't functioning so it could take awhile to catch the remaining working one sometimes.

The Caribe is located about 2.5 miles North of town so you're looking at taking a taxi, car or moped into town most of the time. We rented a moped for the days we were there which was great.

The best part about the Caribe is the value. The studios were $99 a night when we were there. It's far from the most luxurious place on the island but for the price I think it's tough to beat.

“The good and the not so great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2008

After having read the previous reviews of CC, we thought we had a good idea of what to expect. We found it to be pretty much as described. Outside looks pretty bad, but the grounds are well maintained and nice. We had lots of space in our condo (#1051) and it was clean and in pretty good shape. The bathrooms were marble (I think) but getting a little chipped in spots. It is not a new facility. The tub was not pristine, so if that is what you are looking for you will be disappointed. It wasn't dirty, but it was showing its age. There were double sinks in each of the three bathrooms. Lots of nice counter space in the bathrooms. There was only one hair dryer and no iron that I found.

There are several things I will mention as "flaws", but none are so bad that I would never consider staying there again. These are just so you are aware of what to expect.

First, the furniture is very low to the ground. All the chairs and the couch sit about 8 inches off the floor. This is not a "normal" height in my opinion and made sitting in them somewhat uncomfortable.

Second, the cooking facilities leave a lot to be desired. There is an unusual two burner cook space. If you try to use the two fry pans that are provided, they do not fit well over the burners. (The pans are a bit too large.) The numbers on the dials that you use to adjust the heat are worn off, so you don't know if you are at 6 or at 1. The burners tended to be very hot in the middle and cool on the outside, so it was a bit difficult to fry eggs or bacon without burning parts. Also, there is almost no counterspace. Food prep was doable, but not convenient like at home. No tongs, and a very minimal selection of pans, etc. Previous condos we have stayed at were better equipped.

Thirdly, the wiring is not great. 8 out of 10 times when we tried to use the microwave it blew the circuit breaker. This was a problem on the weekend when no one was available to help us get the power to that area of the condo back. Once they showed us where the breaker box was, we just kept re-switching it.

Staff was very helpful and accomodating. Nice and quiet in our area even when the rock climbers were around. A/C worked well. Only one TV in our unit though, and that caused some frustration. It is in the livingroom area. Good TV reception and variety of channels. (English)

The location is nice, and the sandy beach is small but nice. We never got around to snorkelling in front of the place so I can't comment on that. Rental costs for equipment seemed average. Renters did not get any break in price. ($10 for snorkel gear - $65 for 1/2 hour of small waterjet.) Staff at the bar at the restaurant did not seem particularly friendly, nor particularly rude.

We enjoyed our stay at CC but did have the above things that made our stay less than stellar. The value for the dollar is good. So if you want a nice roomy condo, a little aged but in good shape with the ability to cook a few meals, this is it.

  • Liked — Lots of space to keep us out of each other's way when getting ready to head out for the day
  • Disliked — Uncomfortable furniture and kitchen facilities

“Think Twice before you stay!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2008

"Thank god we arrived in the light of day!" This is what another guest staying said to my husband and I on the beach! "We thought it was the Bates motel" never have truer words been spoken. The approach to the Caribe makes you think what a HUGE mistake you have made! It is a mess with discarded debris on both sides of the road . Once inside, it is slowly getting a face lift and will one day, in the distant furure, be a nice place. The room itself was beautiful. The manager, when we arrived, Fulvio stopped by, which was great and went over everything with us. We appreciated the gesture. He did make the comment while we were on the balcony, that people complain the place is too quiet, which is what we sought. He said the rock climbing facility right next door (Alaska Mountain climbers of Mexico) would only be occasionally noisy but we had the nice quiet beach close by. Well it was anything but, the climbers are constantly there, we called one worker the "Head Hooter" all he did was cheer all day and night at the top of his lungs. Saturday night they we there until after nine at night. The quiet beach, once the local taxis start dropping people off, is shared with the most annoying cruise people every day, if I wanted to be on cruise I would have spent my money there, not at the Caribe where, it is suppose to be quiet and relaxed! The folks with the young child, how could even think of letting a small child anywhere near the balcony railing?? What a major accident waiting to happen! One center post with huge gaps in the railings! We never saw any grounds people and the pool was cleaned once in the 10 days we were there. The AC in our room was weak at best and we did turn it off during the day as requested, only to return to a very musty smelling room. If I had it to do over again, I would stay at the Reef Residence or El Presidente. They are much nicer all around! Don't book at the Caribe if you want a relaxing quiet getaway!
