“Pleasantly surprised...much better than expected!”

My wife and I stayed at the Suite Bahia 2/24-3/3/11. We wanted to check out Cozumel for the diving chose the cheapest option for flight + hotel on Orbitz. We figured we'd rather spend the money on diving.

We were not expecting much given how cheap it was, but we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, water was hot (after a little wait), and beds, although hard, were not uncomfortable. Air conditioning worked great. We enjoyed having the fridge, sink, and microwave to store and heat up leftovers. Free WiFi in the room with a computer in the lobby you can use for free if you need it. Breakfast buffet was included at sister hotel Casa Mexicana a block and a half down the street and was great as well. No bar, pool, or restaurant at Suites Bahia, but this did not really bother us much because we weren't really looking for that.

There was some traffic noise from outside, but we're from LA so it didn't bother us that much. We always bring ear plugs when we travel anyways, so we didn't even hear it at night. The diving in Cozumel was fantastic. Highly recommended this hotel for divers on a budget. It's located right in town so you can walk to a ton of restaurants and to the plaza with ease. If you're looking for a dive shop, Scuba Mau was great and they picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel everyday.

All in all, we had a great time. The only thing that I could have wished were different was more places to hang up wet clothes, but we brought our own clothesline and made it work. Would definitely stay here again on our next visit.

P.S. Del Sur restaurant is just up the street and has GREAT empanandas (Argentinian style). If you want to splurge, go across the street to Sorrisi. They serve awesome Italian food. Beef carpaccio appetizer was huge and tasted amazing!

“Oceanview rooms are LOUD... adjacent a taxi stand, "Taxi, Taxi, Taxi" all afternoon and evening”

The price is great and the room is clean. Location is great too... I just was the Taxi stand was elsewhere. The guy yelling "taxi, taxi, taxi" all day and night got old REALLY fast. I had to sleep with the sliding glass door shut and A/C on to drown out the noise.

The only other complaint was that it needs some updating. Blinds were broken and missing, bedspread had a bad cigarette burn. Beds were hard but not awful for me. One thing that bugged me was that the water for the shower took about 5 min (no kidding) to get warm. What a HUGE waste of water.

Breakfast buffet at the sister hotel Casa Mexicana was great... and it appears to be a nicer place. In fact, I think I'll stay there next time for a few bucks more.

PS. Think twice before going to the gellato place on the ground level of the Bahia... $7 USD for a cup of gellato. Stupidly expensive. It was cheaper and better in Rome!

“this is gonna be an annual (or twice, or thrice) thing for us!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2010

What a great hotel! We always travel in the off season to take advantage of the great deals. Room was gigantic, with a kitchenette and separate sitting area, bathroom was quite small (had to step in the shower to close the door), but who cares? Housekeeping kept the whole hotel spotless clean.
The location couldn't be beat, could walk to anything in town, six buck cab ride to the closest real beach, not more than a ten minute walk to anything in San Miguel itself. I could throw a rock off my balcony and it would land in the sea. Saturday night traffic was a little noisy, but Sunday night all you could hear was the wind and the waves.
As I mentioned earlier, a incredibly great deal during the off season, with a buffet breakfast included at its sister hotel, about a three minute walk away. One of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had!!!!
I'll be back again for sure in June, maybe August, early December.....

“The Suites Bahia”

The Suites are a little dated. But, they are kept very clean. The location is fairly central to all the 'stuff to do' in San Miquel. The breakfast at the sister hotel was GREAT!. This was my second stay at Suites Bahia and I'd do it again. Tip the cleaning ladies, they're worth it.
