We have stayed at the Maya Cozumel from 1 to 2 weeks a year for about 16 years, it is an old Mexican style hotel, nothing fancy, a place to sleep and drink a few brews and tell tall tales. It is kept very clean.
As divers we found it quite suited our purposes. We have never had anything stolen from us there, the pool is usually in good working order. There is a rinse tank in the courtyard for dive gear, and we dry ours on the tables and chairs for about 30 min. then move it to the outside our rooms. We also bring some parachute cord which we stretch from column to column for a clothes line.
The staff is very accomodating, Alex the counter man has been there since we have been coming there. The court yard is completely walled in, or it was before the hurricane last year. When we looked in March the wall had not been reerected, but the mgr. stated that it was on the schedule for next month. The rooms have 2 double beds, aircondiitioning (window units), ceiling fans and mini fridges.
We are planning another dive trip there in August and would like to stay there again if the walls and pool are completed. There are nicer places, but none more friendly or cheaper.
