All-in-all, Hotel Cozumel is not bad. This is the third time we've stayed there over the years, all to go diving. There are minor things that are irritating (phones not working, plumbing issues) and more serious stuff (internet intermittent -- always disappearing with an email I had just written!), and the food, although plentiful (on their meal plan) lacks pizzazz. That's not why we were there, so we got what we should have. The price was low, location fairly convenient to town, and the people who work there have been around for years and are mostly extremely nice. Some of the management seem to characterize an annoying attitude: "that's the way it is, sorry!" The diving is set up well with lockers available at the dock with great wash tanks and places to dry while having lunch near the water before diving in the afternoon or going for a siesta. Unfortunately, it's not open everyday, so some days you have to trek back to the hotel and return for your gear. The worst part is the best dive sites are far down the island so the trips are long, often well exceeding an hour each way. That IS the worst part.
Noisy around the pool, music quite loud, making naps or going to sleep early difficult.
Good, not great in nearly every way. Services aren't "resort" style but adequate. Just don't try to cash a traveler's cheque! Although we were resident for 9 days on the third trip to the location, "sorry, you'll have to go to the bank for that!" Inconvenient and hard to believe. Don't know if I've ever stayed at a place this big -- it IS huge -- and wouldn't cash a travelers cheque.
Room Tip: Go quickly to the check in desk if you arrive on a bus (or minibus) -- they ARE SLOW!
