“Best value in Chichen Itza.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Hotel Dolores Alba was my favorite hotel during my trip to Mexico because it was the most authentic and relaxing. It is located just outside of the Chichen Itza archaological site off of 180 (free road). The setting is absolutely lovely: colorful flowers, dense trees, birds chirping, and hammocks by the pool. It was so peaceful, welcoming and simple, which made it more enjoyable than the typical sterile white-walled hotels we normally stayed in. The restaurant is very cute and serves a hearty Mexican meal for a great price! The rooms are decorated with beautiful warm patterns which make you feel at home. Also it has comfortable beds. There is free wifi (only in the main area) and computers with internet for 10 mxn per 10 minutes. A hearty breakfast (fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and warm bread) is included in the price of the room. And they offer a shuttle to Chichen Itza which leaves at 8:30am so you can beat the crowds. There is hot water at all times for showers, but bring your own shampoo. There are two pools open until 10pm which are very refreshing after a day of hiking in the hot sun. The staff speak English, and are very friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night to break up the drive from Cancun to Chichen Itza and back, but I wish we had stayed longer because it was so beautiful and relaxing. Incredible value and the most authentic experience in the area!

“Below average”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Just come back from Mexico and stayed here for 2 nights in Dec 2011. I stayed here 8 years ago - was it really this bad then? The rooms smelt musty but a plus was the piping hot water which was great. The breakfast was the worst we had in Mexico, barely edible and dreadful coffee. The pool and surroundings are very pleasant if you don't look too hard (broken pool chairs, pool just about clean). I think the staff seem demoralised, they sit round the tv and whilst are friendly enough, I think they must too think this place has seen better days. I have reflected on all the places we stayed in a month and realise that this was the worst one.The good thing is it is handy - on a bus route to Merida, you just get dropped off outside.

“Friendly and charming, but NOT a 5 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We loved the local charm of this hotel, with its pool echoing the natural caves down the road and 'palapas' in the dining area. The rooms were no great shakes, kind of basic, but overall it was a comfortable and pleasant experience. I was traveling with a group of 18 (high school students, teachers from the U.S. and our Maya 'hosts'). Everyone was quite happy with the arrangements; the students loved swinging in the hammocks and swimming in the cenote-like pool; the adults enjoyed coffee and other treats on the patio. Do not expect 5 star accomodations or service for this price! But the meals were delicious and the service friendly. We will definitely be back.

“Very expensive for what you get”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The room was clean, but the bathroom was small and the bed uncomfortable. Busy, noisy main road which made for poor sleep. Average service, very expensive, average food. Good location for the eastern entrance to chichen itza, but otherwise I would not recommend this motel, even if you are just looking for a cheap night in the area.

“Nice quiet place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed for 2 nights. Booked through expedia and it turns out that expedia messed up
sending the reservation data to the hotel. The hotel showed a reservation for 1 night only,
but i had it for 2. No issues. We still stayed. The breakfast was good. Bread/omlet/juices with
coffee. The fresh air in the morning with the sound of birds is very pleasing. The main road
is right across and gets a lot of high speed traffic. We had dinner and lunch and the food
was pretty good i should say. We were a bit apprehensive at first, but after trying it one
evening, we were hooked. The kids loved the place. We did not have to run the A/C at all
in the room. Nice stay i should say.
The entrance to the rooms can be a bit damp., esp for rooms near the trees. So some caution is advised. Also, this might not be an issue for 99% of the people out there, but
our son had a minor accident and we had to rush him to the hospital. The beds are made
of concrete platform and a spring mattress tossed on top. This is fine. But my daughter
grabbed a trinked from him and jumped from one bed to the other. My 6yr followed suite.
He missed the landing on the other bed, fell and hit the rear of his head on the concrete
bed platform. The edge being sharp, he had a deep cut. My wife had to grab a towel and
we had a car, so i got hold of the front desk staff and rushed him to the hospital in Merida.
The doctor had to perform 4 stitches and he was asked to stay out of water for 8 days.
Well, would this have been a non issue had it been a wooded frame rather than concrete,
no one knows. I normally think ahead and warn the kids. But these things happen in split
second. So if you are travelling with children, please be mindful of the slippery entrance and
the concrete beds. Otherwise, the staff were very good, friendly and responsive and will
not mind stayin here. The Ik-Kil cenote is right across and was a nice swim.

Room Tip: The king bed matrimonial suites are across from the pool. the double bed rooms are on the other sid...
