My wife and I went to this resort for our honey moon. In short AMAZING PLACE, everything about this place is TOP NOTCH. From the property, the staff to the food. So AWESOME that the only thing keeping us from a return trip is the DRAMATIC increase in the price :-(. Otherwise simply AMAZING.

Room Tip: ALL ROOMS ARE AMAZING but the Corner Suite was my favorite

“#2 in Cancun for a reason!”

Everything about this hotel is classy. The service, the rooms, the facilities, the beach - everything.

We had a corner suite on the 8th floor, a truly remarkable room and view. There are 2 things I have never seen before in that hotel room - one is the shower... A massive shower head accompanied by 4 body jets - plus another portable showerhead if required... Truly an amazing cleansing experience. The second thing I have never seen before is the window in the shower (which is actually part of the bed frame) so u can watch some tv or enjoy the view if u happen to get bored with the 6 shower heads... Crazy stuff. The jacuzzi was also perfect, nice and roomy with 2 comfortable seats
The food was a little more like "fine dining" - sometimes I just wanna pig out and the buffet doesn't have that much of a wide selection

Games room was a nice touch - tabletennis, snooker, tvs, board games - and more food of course

“Best Holiday Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My wife and I booked this holiday for our 25th wedding anniversary and paid more than we normally would for a 2 week holiday. Was it worth it? Yes, every penny of it as we will have great memories of our anniversary.
Heard so many bad stories about check in, after a long flight,i had a glass of champagne , a beer for my wife and I was in my room within about 15 mins of stepping into a lovely lobby which looks straight through onto the Carribean. Great 1st impressions.
The room we requested was with a king size bed which we could have had the next day but we were very happy with our room on the 2nd floor with 2 double beds as I snore a bit. His and hers sinks, double jaccuzi, great shower room, mini bar, ocean view, just awesome and this was a junior suite. Why upgrade?
The pool area was excellent, always had beds. Pool butlers were fun guys. Raphael and Ivan. Thanks guys. Waitresses were always asking if they could get you anything, never waited long for a drink. Thanks Ligia, Miriam, Hope and all the others. And when the sun was blocked by the hotel time for the beach which was lovely white sands and a warm sea and again drinks served swiftly.
Food was exceptional, breakfast at Pelicanos and Spice was excellent, as well as lunch. Maria Marie was amazing especially the Chateaubriand, best fillet ever. But my favourite was Asiana, both the show cooking and off the menu was so nice. Great chefs. Choice of drinks was awesome as well at the lobby bar and was a great place to socialise. Met some great people from Canada, USA and England.
The shows in the evening were as good as you will get in all inclusives anywhere, never bored, and the highlight was the Carribean night on the beach which took a day and a half to set up for 4 hours of great fun for us guests.
We also used the spa on 2 occasions, not cheap but go on treat yourself, you'll enjoy it.
This hotel is in a good location on the hotel zone with malls and restaurants and bars within easy walking distance but you won't want to venture far from the hotel as it is so good.
I can't finish this review without mentioning all the staff at this hotel from the moment you check in to the time you leave, they make you feel so special. A credit to their profession and their country. Thanks to you all for making this the best holiday we have ever had. We were sad to leave. Rylan and Sian from Wales.

Room Tip: Don't upgrade no need to. We were second floor and views were still amazing.

“A wonderful treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed at the Royal for one week and like many other reviewers had a wonderful time there. The room was beautiful, a swim up pool outside on the ground floor. Inside a Bose speaker system and a fully loaded ipod. A wi games was provided along with films and books. Perfect for when the weather wasn't so good. If the staff at the Royal were managing the weather the stay would have been perfect. The room was stacked with premium drinks such as grey goose vodka, tequilla, brandy and bacardi. Wine and mexican champagne were also on offer along with a selection of great snacks.

The room had a fantastic view, the only thing is that having the pool outside the room meant that there had to be some sort of mechanical sounding noise coming from outside the room, rather like a noisy air conditioning unit. At night time when it was quiet this was quite annoying as I hate any type of noise. That aside the turn down service was delightful....chocolates, bedside water, dressing gown placed on the turned down duvet and aromatherapy oil place in the burner by the jacuzzi bath. A wide selection of pillows to suit all was also available.

Poolside service was excellent but you tended to be forgotten on the beach cabana areas. We were told to put the beach flags (which indicate your requirements) flat on the sand when you wanted a drink...impossible for the beach butlers to see I think!

Restaurants were really nice especially the Asian one and the chefs plate. Maria Marie was by far our poorest meal. The steak was like shoe leather and was difficult to cut let alone chew! Breakfast overlooking the sea in the Pelicanos restaurant wasnt great but lunch was far better. Spice restaurant fitted the bill more often than not. The waiters and waitresses were excellent and we were made to feel very welcome and special at every meal. Hot drinks were rarely hot so after breakfast we always visited the coffee shop for a hot brew. Perhaps we should have done this before breakfast as they may have taken the hint that luke warm tea is not great.

The beauty parlour was expensive but the pedicure and blow dry was of a good standard. Hairdryers and straightening irons were in the rooms though as well as Bulgari soaps etc.

All in all a great place to go for a week or two.

“The Royal in Cancun. Worth it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at The Royal in Cancun for five nights. We didn't do the upgrade because one wasn't available the night we checked in and we don't like to move after we have settled in but, it is worth it to be on higher floor (especially if you have a second through fourth floor room in the middle, over the lobby). Almost all the entertainment happens in the lobby and it doesn't close until midnight. The noise from the lobby comes right up and in the rooms that overlook it. They also have the top shelf alcohol but it seemed to run out of it every night around 10:30/11 p.m. We have stayed there four other times, the restaurant service was still fantastic but the beach service wasn't always as good as it has been in years past. Still love the ocean views, beds and showers and workout classes - they are the best we've found anywhere.

Room Tip: Get a room 5th floor or higher to avoid lobby noise or get a room on the ends of floors 2-4 (402, 43...
