“Will not go back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Stayed 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Arenas on an all-inclusive package. My wife and I are very frequent travelers and we stayed using a Priority Club award so we did not pay for the stay. I still would not go back.

On the positive side the staff is friendly and the hotel is new.

On the negative side, it is far from everything, on a very small beach full of seaweed, the sun is gone from the pool area at 3:00PM, the all inclusive is minimal, local drinks only (bottled beer is considered premium), wine is served from a bottle but comes from a box (amusingly if you ask where the wine is from the waiters will tell you whatever is on the label).

The hotel appears to have been made from the cheapest construction materials, the walls are paper-thin and I had to use earplugs because our neigbour was snoring, the sun peers out through the curtains in the morning. The buffet is rather bad, the other 2 restaurants, which open alternatively, do serve some decent food, though nothing outstanding. Housekeeping did not replace the towels or the water.

I am a Platinum member of Holiday Inn's program, meaning I stay at hotels of the chain frequently, this one to me is sub-par in terms of infrastructure and amenities, particularly for a resort, and the friendly service cannot make up for that.

“Good value, just too far from all the nightlife”

I went there with my boyfriend and some friends, bought the All-Inclusive package. The service was fine, food and beverage were OK. The staff was nice, not incredible, but good enough for an average hotel. Cleanliness was good, no complaints about that. The room was spacious, the air conditioned was in perfect conditions. No one stole anything from our room as i read in other reviews. The only problem is that the hotel is too far from the nice nightclubs, we had to take taxis every time we wanted to go to have fun to somewhere else. Also, this all-inclusive hotel is actually not all-inclusive, if you wake up late after the breakfast time, and you want to have something to eat you only can get some snacks, and that's horrible when you're really hungry. If you want to order something you have to pay extra or wait until lunch time. I'd recommend it, it's not a bad hotel, but i'd like to try some other hotel with better location next time i visit cancun.

“Great value for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

We stayed here for a week and really enjoyed it. All the staff was amazing! They were all extremely friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make your stay as good as possible. The drinks were great (the bartender at the snack bar actually had his own really good recipes), and it was quieter than some of the other hotels as it was smaller. The beach was great if you're looking for a peaceful place to sit and relax, or even for swimming, especially during the time we were there, as the waves were far too rough further down on the hotel strip to swim due to the wind. The hotel had a very nice Mediterranean look and feel. Our room was very big and bright, and always cleaned very well each day. However, if you request an ocean view room, make sure to request an unobstructed ocean view as we had a very large tree blocking our view...

The food at the two à la carte restaurants was simply amazing! Especially the Italian one, we went there twice and it was some of the best Italian food we had ever had! The food at the buffet was OK, not terrible but not great either.

Also, the hotel is pretty isolated from the shops, restaurants, and clubs on the hotel strip, you have to take a bus to get to these places. Bus is cheap though, only about $0.60 per trip. Overall though we were very satisfied with this hotel.

“COULDNT BE CLOSER TO THE BEACH AND SEA - LESS THAN A STONES THROW.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

We stayed for two weeks at this hotel, and after a mishap on the first full day, I found myself unable to move away from the hotel for the whole time.
.
The room was sufficient, although we had to ask a number of times for them to provide a table and chairs for the balcony, eventually getting a couple of plastic chairs but no table. The restuarant wa ok, lunch was by far the best meal of the day, although the chef cooking the omellettes in the mornings was fine, despite the long queues at times. The evening options were a little too spicy for us.

The beach is excellent, straight off the patio area of the hotel, and we dont really have any problems with the sea. Come off it, your swimming in the sea, so you should expect to have some seaweed around. The pools were ok, although we didnt use them, but i must admit the one thing that we found annoying was the constant loud speaker announcements for 'fun' entertainment. It should have been a bit obvious to the organiser that there wasnt anyone reeally interested, so why not just give up for the day.

The hotel entertainment was good and pretty varied, the bar in the front lobby was interesting, watching all the comings and goings.

All in all, not a bad holiday, and worth but the hotel should be a three star in british standards.

“Great Hotel for your money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

I stayed in cancun last june in a four star hotel. This is rated a three star. First let me tell you that you get what you pay for. For the money this was a great hotel. Clean rooms, great staff, food was not bad but not over the top. Are rooms were not ready when we got there but we were able to have food and drinks while we waited and they upgraded us to ocean view for the wait. The air condition stoped working in one room and they switched us rooms right away!! The kids were upset they closed the pool early a few nights for chemical treatment but im happy they took the time to test it often daily and took care of any problems! The kids were happy they had free wireless internet so they could check fasebook and there farmville!! Both pools were very clean! Get to breakfast early or it gets very busy. The bars seem to open a little late every day but the bar tenders were great. Buy day two all I had to do was walk up and nod my head and our drinks were ready! The only true problem we had was the water on that shore was very calm and there was alot of algie like a lake. The east shore had alot more waves and no algie. Great hotel for the family but not so much for that romantic getaway you need to upgrade to a four or five star for that!!
