Gross. Seriously the next day, I was covered in little red itchy bumps. My boyfriend didn't have a problem with this, but he is Mexican, and I can't be 100% sure it was bed bugs, but I'm pretty sure, since they appeared after sleeping at the Alux. The windows were like that blind kinda glass that cranks open - well, there were two spots with big holes in them, so the mosquitos could come in - friggin great.
The area kinda blows - it was downtown Cancun, kinda a seedy area, not in the hotel zone, but very convenient to the bus station.
The air worked pretty good. There was nowhere to charge my phone and computer in the room - one plug where the TV went and only a 2-prong outlet. And the plug in the bathroom obviously suffered from a fired, bc of the black smoky stain around it.
The bathroom seemed clean and the hot water worked well.
I needed to be at the airport at 830a. Hotel Alux staff told us that continental breakfast would be set up between 6 and 7a. At 730a, we were still waiting for the breakfast to be set up and we ate at 745a. Breakfast was 15 pesos per person paid with hotel. There was cereal, yogurt, apples, bananas, OJ, coffee and various breads and toasts.
The beg bugs, plug issue, and hole in the windows to let in mosquitos were the deal breakers. I would not recommend this place.

It is widely known that bed bugs are a serious problem in todays hotel industry, they are transported from property to property by guests.
After we read your review, we checked the whole property for these unpleasant visitors. Some of the things that we have done is to check the walls, beds, electric outlets, small holes in the walls, etc. Since none were located we followed a suggestion to change the temperature of the room 2-3 degrees up, which makes the bed bugs come out of their hiding places. No bed bugs were found after following this recommendation.
The hotel does have a contract with an exterminator company, which comes twice a month and treats the rooms with special products. All of this is certified by the appropriate government office. As stated previously, we found no bed bugs.
We do want to say that mosquitoes are common in this area. We do appreciate the objectivity of your review and that you highlighted that you were not totally sure they were bed bugs. Electrical outlets are being replaced as I write. Hotel Alux Cancun has been in the market for many years, it is not a new building and we do try to improve with every opportunity that we have. One of these improvements is the quality of the continental breakfast you had for such a minimun price.
Regarding the window, one of the shutters was broken and it has been replaced. We try to attend any maintenance report as soon as the guest lets us know about it.
