“Very Nice Hotel for family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

We are HGVC memebers and stayed at the end of February 2011. We had read these reviews and so went in with moderate expectations. They were exceeded.

This is a small hotel only 4 floors but we liked it that way. There was never any lack of lounge chairs at the pool or the beach and it was quite. If you like congo lines around the pool in the afternoon this isnt your place.

Breakfast buffet is very good and usually outside by the beach depending on the wind. We had the dinner bbq 2x and it was pretty good too.

The pool is large enough and maybe a bit on the cool side but not too bad. They were having some issues with the heat on the hot tub and it fluctuated between unbearable to luke warm.
The one problem I could see with the pool is the lack of stairs into the water. There are areas that the water is only a few inches so that works really well for the young kids but the older adults or toddlers that want to walk into the pool are out of luck. Not a deal breaker but would be a nice fix at some point.

The beach is odd in that there are stairs down to the water and at high tide there really isnt much of one. Again not a deal breaker but a bit odd. There is no lack of seating with big straw canopies in the sand but it is a couple steps up from the water.

We had a 2br and it was very nice. The beds are comfortable and the housecleaning was wonderful. We read about crime in the rooms we saw no such thing but to be fair we put everything including cell pones in the safe.

The pitch for the time share was not so bad and in fact we went and listened to their presentation. The facilities are very nice. We expected to have to be firm when we heard the price because we thought it would be very competitive. It turns out it was an easy NO. They are absolutely crazy for what they are trying to charge for these units. For half the points we have with Hilton they wanted the same money. Just insane really.

Location is pretty good and you can walk to a bunch of places including senor frongs which our 7 year old loved and we went a couple of times. We took the city bus to the market which was fun. Bus is easy and cheap. $8 pesos will get you there get exact change at the front desk.

Overall a fun vacation and we will go back.

I wish I would have brought a can coozie to enjoy the beer poolside. It gets warm fast.

“A good deal for the money - keep expectations reasaonable!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

This hotel was a good deal. The service was good and everyone was very friendly. The room was a one bedroom and it was a nice size, well equiped, clean. Nice tub. The bed was slightly hard but overall was not that bad. My girlfriend found it quite hard. The AC worked great - can get room nice and cool. There was no internet in the room but is available in the lobby for no fee. There is a small conveniece store in the lobby of the hotel. The house keeping was great, our room was cleaned up each day..the room safe wouldn't open for us one evening...but the front desk sent up the maintenance man ASAP ( which was in keeping with whatever request or need we had.) The restaurant had a great breakfast buffet- we enjoyed that 2 mornings...it's outside right beside the ocean. Not cheap though. Did not eat other meals there so cannot comment. The location is very nice, it is right on the beach and one can walk in two different directions. Would recommend taking the bus to the various restaurants at night rather than a taxi. Much cheaper! The sunset was great from our chairs! Had an exercise room which was modern and clean but unfortunately both treadmills were not working : ( Could have run on the running path outside the hotel. There was a sauna that worked well. The pool was average. Not lighted at night. On the smaller size and there was just one pool. But it would suffice. The beach was OK - quite rocky in areas as compared to beaches at other hotels. There is enough sand though! More of a family orientated hotel rather than a 'party' hotel that were adjacent. Overall it satisifed our needs. Would return. Just keep expectations reasonable.

“Not Bad - Not Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

For the money, not a bad hotel for Cancun but not without a few warnings.
Rooms Clean, Beds firm but comfortable. Staff very nice. Grounds well maintained. But, this isn't unique to Cancun and compared to other Fiesta Americana Hotels in the area, it's a bit less of a choice. Staff tried to triple charge us for the last day and this was after checking with them the day before and being told everything was good. A mistake that delayed us from catching our flight out. Also, over-billed us for a breakfast package at the last minute and we didn't have the time to argue with them. A good hotel will have your billing resolved before you check out, not after you're in the van to head to the airport and then radio you to come back. Weak.... Also, don't expect much help with anything from the staff. Though friendly, they aren't very prepared to deal with questions or simple things like mailing a post-card or converting more than $100 in currency. Again, Weak. The lack of a business center means you better be prepared to be totally out of touch with the airlines and internet unless you bring your laptop and sit in the lobby for a fee.

You can find better but you'll probably pay for it.

“A Great Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We have just returned from a truly outstanding and memorable vacation to the Fiesta Americana Villas in Cancun. We did see a few negative reviews about some theft issues, but we experienced no problems at all regarding this. Booked through our time share.

The staff called us in advance at our home in New York, to help facilitate the airport transfer. We booked a 2 bedroom suite, which was changed to a room with a better ocean view the following day. Staff were extremely accomodating and helpful.

The pool was great, not at all cold like some of the reviews. I enjoyed a poolside exercise class as well as the swim up bar! Place is also very kid friendly. Beach is great- not overly crowded like some of the nearby resorts, and the thatched hut shade umbrellas on the beach were great. You can have drinks on the beach as well as lunch, and service was very good. Liked the beach volleyball as well.

Place is very central to restaurants etc, and the bus goes back and forth very easily. Be careful crossing the streets- can be a challenge!

The 2 bedroom suite was very nice, with full kitchen with fridge, stove and microwave (no oven), and all the utensils and pots you would need. We ate a few meals out, but it was real nice to have a full kitchen, especially with kids. Got to Walmart for your shopping; its a bus ride away, and the best supermarket to stock up for your trip. Important to use your room safe, which was fine. (Anyone who leaves their valuables out needs to be prepared for theft in any hotel). There is theft in the area, but a little caution is really all that is needed to avoid unpleasantness.

Service was excellent with rooms cleaned daily. Spa also great with a 2 for 1 massage special! (Really loved that! )

Crowd was mixed, affluent Mexicans and Americans, mostly, with a few Europeans.
Had singles, couples and families.

Never had any problem getting a lounge on the beach. Beach in front of the hotel is a little rocky, but a 2 minute walk in either direction takes you to nice entry for swimming.

Took two excursions, to Chichen Itza and one snorking cruise to Isla Mujeres. Both very nice, and got a discount by signing up for a time share talk (also booked at Walmart!)

The weather was great, a welcome relief from the winter snow in the Northeast.

Had free internet if bring your laptop, but only wirelesss service is available in the Deli. Food prices overall not cheap. (comparable to New York)

Would certainly go back!

A satisfied New Yorker

“Had a fine time - We enjoyed the stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

people found this review helpful

I'm an HGVC member and I stayed at this hotel with my family (wife and 2 young children) Feb. 2011.

We had a great time and did not let the size of the hotel interfere with our vacation.
The hotel is smaller than most of the others in the area, but that actually worked out to be a good thing for us - because there are less people (than a larger hotel), the pool was not crowded, there was no rushing out in the mornings to get pool chairs, service was fast, and it was peaceful and quiet when you expected it to be.

I've seen many complaints in the earlier reviews about th pool water being too cold.
For my family, the pool water was not too cold at all - it was just fine. When you first get into the pool, yes it is a bit nippy (like most other pools I've been in at other hotels), but after a minute or so your body quickly adjusts to the temperature and it actually feels quite comfortable - especially on really hot days. We were in the pool everyday, as well as many of the other people staying at the hotel.
People keep saying in these reviews that the pool is not heated. The part of the pool for small children (2-3 year olds) is heated and that water poors into the larger pool (for the
kids 4 and older that can swim, and the adults) providing warmer water on one end of the larger pool, but a little cooler on the end of the larger pool that doesn't get as much of the warm water. Also, the larger pool is only 4ft deep, so great for kids taller than 4ft and for smaller kids that can swim. I two boys (one over 4ft, the other under 4ft) and both swam in the pool pretty much all day long.

The beach area for the hotel is small, but I was surprised to see so many people using it everyday (mostly the older crowd sunbathing and reading books) - they did not complain. The larger, more spreadout beach is only a few steps away on either side of the hotel.

The rooms are basic, but comfortable. It's not the Ritz-Carralton or a high-end Hilton, but it your plan is to go to Cancun and spend most of your time outside enjoying the beach, pool, sun, food, atmosphere, these rooms will suffice. They are very clean and have wonderful views of the ocean and pool area. They have a nice sized refrigerator, microwave, sink, and dishes - that was really handy for my family.

We had breakfast at the hotel one day only and it was quite good, but we went out to town to eat all other days for breakfast and dinner. We ordered lunch everyday by the pool, using the pool menu. The pizza, tacos, and drinks are good - that's about all that
we ordered.

If you're between the ages of 18-32 and looking for the party scene, then you want to go to one of the other hotels. But if you're older and looking for a place to relax and not be squeezed in by crowds of people, then this hotel is fine for you. If you have kids and want a place that they can enjoy without the college crowds or other bouyant young males and females, then this hotel is fine for you also. If you like really large hotels with really big rooms, swank furniture, a lobby as big as the ocean, multiple restaurants, places to shop inside the hotel, nightly entertainment at the hotel, then you want to go somewhere else.

The hotel is in a great location. You are right in the area with all the restaurants and shopping that you desire. You can also catch the bus outside and go to downtown if you like.
Do not eat across the street at the place called, "The SeaHorse Restaurant & Bar" - the food in that place is horrible. The owner likes to sit victims out in front to make it appear that people like that place, but everyone that I met that ate there hated it.

We loved the food at Calypso's, La Tranquita, Pik Nik, Mextreme, and Habanero's.

Lastly, there is no Internet in the rooms. You have to go to the lobby to use the free wireless. I would have preferred to have Internet in the room, but that was one less fee that I had to pay by using it for free in the lobby and worked out to be more virgin Pina Coladas for my kids.

I travel a lot and stay mostly at very large hotels. This hotel never impeded our fun in Cancun.

We had a great time!
