“Delightful, intimate beach alternative to Cancun's high-rise hotel zone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

After flying into Cancun, we fled the traffic chaos by driving a little way North up the coast to this quiet little hotel with delightful tropical gardens, large pool, right on the beach opposite Isla Mujeres. Overall decor is colorful Mexican. There appeared to be no one else much staying so we selected a room with water view that was quite comfortable with adequate plumbing and hot water. It was too late to go out and forage for dinner so Sylvia provided us with a very satisfying meal in the domed dining room, which we visited again for breakfast, all for a very moderate price. The hotel is very close to the ferry to Isla Mujeres and to a lovely ancient Mayan site called El Meco. The staff were very friendly & helpful. A great value.

“very simpel hotel....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2008

This is a very simpel hotel.
Positive:
- Nice staff, worked hard to pleace you.
- Quiet place, away from hotelzone
- Real mexican feeling...not american like the hotelzone
- Very cheap
- Clean rooms every day!

Negative:
- Is a old hotel, you can see it in the room and bar/restaurant
- The food is very simpel, often the same and often cold. You have to go eat in the first 30 minutes that the food is served to get warm food. ( or there is nothing left). All food is deepfrozen food and baked/ warm up.
- The beach is insufficient, very small and a lot of seeweed.
- The pool is ok, but often dirty with leaves
- the drinks are ok, but not much choice ( day's only cola, beer)

summarized: If you have not much money to spend a nice hotel, but go to eat somewhere else. ( and visit isla mujers, not far from the iland, very nice and beatifull)

  • Liked — quit place, nice staff
  • Disliked — food was very bad

“Super budget hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2008

The hacienda is not for people who expect to be pampered the whole day, who like to party all the time, not for those who like to find gold at the end of the rainbow. It is a small park with 49 rooms/houses consisting of a bedroom and a bathroom. The food is simple but good, the staff is real mexican and the friendliest people you can find. we've been there twice and are going back there again for shure. It's a cheap hotel and you'll be getting more then what you're paying for but people expecting a resort where you just have to blink or snap your fingers for a hot-dog come out dissapointed. they just have to go to a resort in the hotel-zone or playa del carmen where they pay twice the amount. They have some waterproblems now and then but people; remember, this is mexico. All the things that are normal to us europeans and americans are a luxury overthere and the small things you might be missing in the hacienda gives you a feeling of the real mexican life and has it's charme. The collectivo (small busses used by the mexicans) stops when you raise your hand and costs 4,5 pesos. the linebusses to wall-mart, the downtown centre of cancun or the hotelzone costs 6,5 pesos. (1peso=0,06 euro or 0,10 usd) Downtown is the best place to shop, in stead of being ripped off at the hotelzone or at mercado28, you can shop here at prices the mexicans pay for their goods which is 30 to 50 % of what we pay in europe (for anything, you name it!) The people of the hacienda will help you in telling you where to go and how to go there instead of showing you the shop of a friend and overcharching you. Isla mujeres is on 45 min by collectivo and ferry and will cost you 79 pesos (roundtrip) (thats 8 usd instead of the organised tours of 40 usd they'l charge you at the big hotels) I know, i can go on and on about hacienda punta sam But all and all: You go here for the quitness in a mexican surrounding and dispite some defects, Ill take hacienda punta sam over any big hotel or resort anytime!

“a mistake”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2008

Not satisfied:
- The Hotel can mention they are seaside, but I think they can’t say they have a beach. The beach is very small not convenient to use and dirty, the Hotel doesn't not care about cleaning it.
- Huge problems with laundry. Table cloths in the bar and restaurant VERY DIRTY – shame to see. In our room we didn’t have pillowcases upon arrival we’ve stayed for 4 nights and the pillowcases appeared only for one last night. Our neighbor gave some cloth to the laundry and went for a 3 days trip, when he came back nothing was ready.
- Saw a cockroach in the room.
- My friend got herpes on his lip after using “all inclusive glasses”.
- All meals are planed for 2 hours and are buffet style. The food is not refreshed. If you didn’t come during the first 30 - 40 minutes you don’t have a meal.
- Absolutely nothing around to see and to do, only one fish restaurant, no entertainment in the hotel, no sports opportunities, no TVs only in the bar.
- In case you will decide to see REAL Caribbean beaches 100% you'll be out of the Hotel for the full day. SO NEVER TAKE "ALL INCLUSIVE". Maximum breakfast.
The staff:
- Should mention the serving staff is nice, attentive and hospitable. BUT it's not enough to save the overall attitude!
