“Best of both worlds! Family time and adults only time!”

We had originally booked the ocean view junior suite, but when we arrived, were told they did not have any available. We were offered a free night upgrade to a gran master one bedroom with ocean view and jacuzzi. This room also gives you access to the Royal (adults only resort) next door. Since we were traveling with the kids, this appealed to us, plus we thought it would be nice to have the privacy. The room was lovely, but it did not have a terrace. This is something we really wanted. We have young children and thought it would be nice to sit outside once they were in bed. We decided not to stay in the upgraded suite. The manager on duty offered us another free nights upgrade and to move us the following day to a gran master ocean front one bedroom suite with a huge terrace. We went for it. Do not upgrade until you get there. You will get a better price. We would have paid at least 3 times more for the upgrade if we would have done it ahead of time. It is a good thing that we did change rooms, the original one leaked after the huge rain storm we had. Actually, the resort was leaking everywhere! The lobby and one restaurant we went to had buckets to collect the water. We loved our new room, although to get internet service, you had to sit by the front door. This room did not have an Ipod docking station as advertised. The loft bedroom was upstairs and the dinning area, sofa bed and access to the terrace was downstairs. It was located in the villas close to the Royal not in the main part of the hotel.

The children loved the kid's club and pool. That is how we spent most days. We would take them to the pool in the morning, they would have lunch and spend the afternoon at the kid's club. My husband and I would escape to the Royal for some adult time. The food there is better than CGR. The children suggested we go for a romantic dinner there, too. We went to Maria, Marie's and it was wonderful. We didn't need to hire a babysitter since the kid's club was open until 8:00. The girls that work there made sure the kids were not bored. They made masks, made play doh, baked cookies, built sand castles on the beach, made paper mache piggy banks (they didn't make it home), had a party on the beach with games and food. They also had evening entertainment. We attended the magic show and it was awesome! My daughter was invited up on stage to assist with a trick. If you do use the kid's club, you will be told to check in every hour. You can just call to see if the kids are OK. I'm sure this rule is there to prevent people from leaving their kids all day crying for their parents.

Make sure you book dinners at the Maria's and Il Pescatore. The food at the other restaurants was not the best. Let me just say that I am not a fan of buffets. Also, the drinks were not very strong and were too syrupy. The house wine was not drinkable. We ended up paying extra for wine to drink with several dinners.

We enjoyed our family vacation with the adults only time at the Royal. A few things that would have made this a five star review were better internet service, ipod docking station and softer bed (it was supposed to be a pillow top, but was rather hard) in our room, better service for the guests using their cabanas (which were also included in this room catagory) and better food/drink.

The hotel is beautyful and in great position, how ever we did not like some things. The service of the waiters is allover very slow (to few waiters), the night shows and entertainment is very weak (better you go out) and the food quality was disapointing in all internal restaurants and buffets. Dont expect to get 4-5 star place even if they write this on their own website, it is max worth a 3 star. If you dont care much for good food you might surive but we expected way more quality from a place like this and end up going out a lot....but why book than all-inclusive in first place?

Another point is the anoying sales people for their timeshare palns. They insist to much, anoy you like crazy if you like or not. You see in all corners sales people from the hotel with their clients (victems)!

I would NOT book this place for my family again.

Resume: dont expect much, 3 star tops here and low food quality. How ever the price was okay for what you get. If you look for price over service and quality will be fine. If not bette choose a diferant place.

“awesome resort”

we just recently travelled to this resort from feb 1-8,2012. We had a wonderful time at this resort, all the staff were very friendly, lots of bars to choose from 8 to be exact, one of them on the beach another 2 beside the pool area, a lobby bar as well as in the buffet. Easy access to downtown close to all night clubs all within 10-20 min bus ride.buses are 8.50 pesos per person taxis are more expensive 10-15 dollars U.S. pesos were 13.8 to 1.The food was average in the buffet lots of pasta, tons of steak and chicken and if you wanted something different there were other restaraunts that offered hamburgers hot dogs etc.there is a 24 hour snack bar so you can get food all the time and drinks. There are 2 alacarte resteraunts which you have to reserve when you get there. We liked the sunset grill and the pool side health cafe. There is something for everyone .MY wife and i had a massage at the resort with Maria and Adel and they were awsome.the rooms were clean the beds were not the softest but not terrible either. the room bar was exceptional with unlimited water and soft drinks and there was a bar on the wall with 4 large bottles of hard liquor for your enjoyment all included in the all inclusive. Great resort for families with kids as they have kids pool and water slides for them. Lots of activities throughout the day at the resort . We did a captain hook tour which was on a spanish galleon ship with pirates and sword fighting which went from 7-11 pm with open bar and a meal of either steak or lobster. So much more i could say but really good time. Immigration at the airport was slow..there were 6 planes that landed at the same time and it took us 3 hours to get through immigration so prepare your self when you go that this could happen to you. if you would like to talk to me personally email me at barrysiemens@sasktel.net and i would be able to answer any questions you may have.

“Great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We just returned last night from our one week stay at this resort. We had an oceanview junior suite on the 5th floor which was very nice. We were welcomed in our room with a bottle of champagne, robes and minibar. The bathrooms were especially nice. The beach was incredible, very clean with a little bit of rocks in a small area that we had to avoid. Had more waves then other beaches we have been to, but I like waves. There were plenty of beach chairs and beds to lay down on. There are only two pools which was a little bit of a dissapointment, but if you like activities, there were plenty of them there at the main pool. There were 6 restaurants (2 buffet during the day). The buffets did not have a lot of choices, but the food was good. The a la carte restaurants were really good, we especially liked the Sushi Healthy restaurant and the Sunset Grill. The service at the a la carte restaurants was exceptional; they were all very professional and friendly; especially Pablo and Ferdinand. The guys and gals at the lobby bar were great and worked especially hard as everyone was in the lobby at night. The sports and entertainment people were extremely friendly and fun, especially Omar and Jesus! The service at the beach and pool bars were okay. The gentleman that served drinks at the beach was awesome though, he always had a big smile on his face and was very friendly. They also had a hot tub, sauna and steam room which were nice to go in at night and on rainy days. The resort was extremely busy this past week, and people at times got a little bit loud (especially on superbowl Sunday). There were A LOT of families with small children as it is a great value and there is plenty for kids to do around the pool area. All in all, I was very happy with my experience with this resort!

“Pleasant Trip.”

My wife and I purchased an eversave (similar to groupon or living social) for a four night stay at the Gran Caribe Real in Cancun, Mexico. We knew what to expect because we had a destination wedding at the sister property the Gran Porto Real in Playa Del Carmen, just shy of a year earlier. As is ture of most all-inclusive properties in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico; the hotel grounds, rooms, and service were all excellent. We are frequent travelers to this region of Mexico for that reason. That being said, there are some things to know before you go! First and foremost, this is a family hotel! (this is a plus for some and maybe not so much for others, it all depends on your intentions for your vacation) But we knew that going in and it wasn't an issue for us. We were also traveling off peak season when most kids were in school so there weren't as many youngsters running around. For those who prefer an adults only experience the sister property next door "The Royal" offers even nicer accomodations, grounds etc, and a slightly more spohisticated/upscale experience. But if you are planning a family vacation then the Gran Caribe has great facilities for little ones that can enhance your stay greatly to include a small water park feature attached to the hotel.

The pool isn't the largest, in fact based on the size of the resort you would expect a larger/grander swimming pool, but it is clean and met our needs. The food at any all-inclusive can be monotonous if you're there for a long stay, but we knew that going in and it did not bother us. Be sure to get dinner reservations for the a la carte restaurant early in your stay to avoid overbooking! The bartenders are all courteous and make strong drinks and a little tipping goes a loooong way in Mexico in terms of service! A few dollars here and there is greatly appreciated by the staff and will enhance what is already impeccable service. We greatly enjoyed our stay and found everything to meet our expectations.

Side note: There are two main types of all-inclusive resorts: family resorts or adults only/couples only resorts. Just make sure you know which kind of resort you're going to before you're vacation and select appropriately for your needs. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time :)

Room Tip: Make dinner reservations as soon as you check in for later in the week to ensure you can try the a l...
