“Great vacation”

We had a very nice time. Positives: impeccable service. Smiling wait staff always available and remembered our favorite drinks. We don't always tip at all inclusives, but felt compelled to do so here, bec staff worked so hard and so long and were very well trained. Saw the wait staff have their daily meeting at the pool at 11am, for eg. Bring lots of ones and fives, bec change is difficult to get. Beach chairs are always available and you can move them more easily to get sun, since the hotel does block the sun by around 3:30 or earlier depending on where you sit. We just took the opportunity to move around and met more people that way. There were usually lounge chairs off the beach too, but not right around the pool and more in the shade. Food was very good. Alot of variety and plentiful. Never had a problem getting a reservation for dinner at restaurants. Arrived on Monday and chose the buffet the first night, but set up reservations for the next few nights. I was asked if I wanted a restaurant for the first night too. The Japanese and Krystal were our favorites. Ate at all five, but never had the Italian lunch. Don't get the steak at the steakhouse. Too thin and over cooked. But the lamb was good there. Negatives for me: minimal Latin music which I was looking forward to; no disco at this hotel, but you can go to the disco at the riu next door, also all inclusive and we can use their facilities; minimal fish to see when snorkeling from the beach at the hotel (we paid the $35 each to take a 10 min boat ride to snorkel at the reef for an hour and the guide pointed out 2 sea turtles, two stingrays, baracuda, coral and lots of fish.) Also the shows are very weak but not a big deal, except after dinner there is not much to do. Since the pool area empties out by 5 pm since no sun, we had early dinners. An exception was the monday night Michael jackson show. That was good. If you want some sun and relaxation, it is a lovely place to escape the winter. Guests were mostly friendly too. Also Internet wifi only available in the lobby where you see everyone sitting with their devices. Only two public computers, which are free. More seemed available at the riu next door. Our room was on the small side, but we did request and got a kingsize bed, which was ocean view and over the infinity pool. Always had towels and bottled water and soda and beer in the room replaced without asking.

The hotel is great but the service is outstanding. I was suspicious about the all inclusive but it was really great! Nice restaurants and very good drinks. My husband and I really enjoyed a lot our time there. It was a great vacation. Would definetely go back!

“It smells in the lobby”

I wouldn't go back. It smelled when we walked in. there are no dinner reservations the day you get there unless you pribe Pablo. And if you get down to the pool at 630am and find all the chairs gone...it's Mario...he will save you a chair for a $10. I got a beautiful spot after I met Mario. can't blame these guys for making a living. Wilma the barmaid in the lobby was fantastic. And everyone was very friendly. The Italian was excellent for lunch and will give you the whole bottle of wine or champagne at the table side , all in all we had a good time

“Great family vacation!”

My husband, and daughter and I spent 8 days there at the end of Jan/Feb. We had a great visit, the hotel itself is beautiful. There are several small things that need to be addressed, paint chipping, ceiling fans broke, hot tubs broken etc. I did notice the weird smell, however I think the location of the property is the issue. The staff constantly cleaned and the wait staff were absolutely amazing! We found the food to be very good, however, if you typically only eat pizza and burgers you won't enjoy it. If this is the case please don't bring your speedo.
As far as chairs at the pool/beach there are always chairs, just maybe not in the location you want them in. Don't sleep until noon and except a great spot. My husband and daughter played volleyball everyday and had a great time. As far excursions go to the shopping mall across the street and book there, much cheaper. And they will negotiate some too.
Be very careful and don't even brush your teeth with the hotel water, use only bottled. If you do and get sick have the bartender make you a CC and Pepsi, the whiskey kills the bacteria.
Overall, we loved the hotel for the price we paid, and plan on going back.

“RELAXED ENGLAND”

Just returned from an 11 night stay at the Riu Palace - what a great hotel. The staff were welcoming and accomodating at all times. We had no problems getting sun beds. Speciality restaurants - tried them all - loved the Italian for lunch, Krystal and Brazillian were our favourites at night. The buffet restaurant had too much choice - quality and variety good.
Both restaurant and pool waiters were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
The rooms can smell musty - but its hot and humid - this is not an unusual occurence in these types of countries. The rooms were spotless and had no problems with anything going missing.
would definately return again.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and had no problems having a good night except when the super bowl was on...
