“Improved a lot the last year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

When we have to be in Cancun we always stay at Xbalamque. Rooms are clean and the whole entourage of the hotel is very nicely designed. For the past year management have improved a lot of things in the hotel, renovation of rooms and paintings on the wall. Service of the staff also improved. The only thing I dont like at all is the parking space or whats left of it. Half of what used to be the parking lot is now "restaurant" area, and 90 % of the time there is no room for your car. Situated in the centre of the city it is important to have a safe area to park your car.

Room Tip: During weekend ask for a room AWAY from the street..to avoid noise of the nightlife

“Like a movie set”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Actually below average. If you want a truly old school Mexican experience, stay here. As you enter, it's like stepping into a set for an old Mexican black and white movie from the '60s. The employees are nice, but don't expect too much in the way of accommodations other than simple and basic. It is air conditioned (wall unit) and good for one night. There is a restaurant, bar and pool here. Yaxchilan Avenue is also filled with restaurants. The Ramada, more expensive, is a few doors down.

i stayed there got a great rate stayed for almost free because cost 85 a night i got it 4 35 then a couple came in and wanted a room for 3 nites they were going too give them 75 a night i told them to go line and get the on line price of 35 and breakfast and one date free.
the gave me 50.00 American for the advice. well the room was great and clean the maid was great the pool was great made friends with many women. the bars are very close the park is very close. the night life on their street is great. i always feel safe their the military was their during my stay it was their head quarters in the area. i made very valuable contacts from them being there as is because I'm law enforcement from Chicago. 8i love the way the hotel is painted with Mayan art. i recommended this hotel highly it is close to everything that you need shopping the beach restaurants much much more. it is the real Mexico you can always reach me here to get more information.

“disapointment, never go there again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 March 2011

We stayed in Xbalamque Cancun for four nights together and we aren't satisfied with it. Reception is nice, and people from the staff are friendly but the room and overall feelings from the hotel arenť good. Rooms are very dark with old air conditioning (maybe is better not to turn on it), floors looks too old and dirty. The bathroom is quite good but donť expect luxury. Anyway, there is not storage space for your clothes, just two drowers in the bathroom. There is also small garden in the hotel with pool and bar. Food and drinks from the restaurant is good, but service is horrible. Pool is nice and really calm due to his location (hotel is located in Cancun downtown few blocks from bus station - location is really good!), but there is always mess in the water. When we went to the airport, hotel offered to us their taxi service. We payed to the hotel and when we arrived on the airport taxi driver said that the hotel did not pay him and we had to pay again. It's horrible! And hotels also promotes free wi-fi in the rooms, but for the whole stay the connection to the internet doesn't work in the rooms - just in the reception...

“Beautiful hotel with a friendly staff and a convenient location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

I really enjoyed my stay at the Xbalamque in January. I have traveled throughout Mexico, and live in Cancun, so I am very aware of what is out there. When I was having work completed in my home I needed to get away from the noise and picked this hotel. So glad I did........inexpensive, clean, beautiful artwork everywhere, very nice room, great pool with a little waterfall, spa, and a nice staff. I would stay again, and recommend it highly. Mercado 28 is super close as are the new casinos in town.......
