Chalet Maya was WONDERFUL! The remote location and beautiful scenery were very conducive to relaxing. It was so different from the cheesy, contrived resorts you often find in Mexico. At Chalet Maya, you open the door to your thatched-roof bungalow and step right out onto the soft, sandy beach. At night, all you hear is the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves hitting the shore. Beautiful, tranquil beach. There are no other hotels for miles, so you often have the entire beach to yourself.Restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Featured Mexican and seafood selections. Our waiters (Jose and Eddie) were great and even helped us brush up on our Spanish.The owners have two very cute and well behaved dogs (Pumi and Jacky) who joined us on the beach. They seemed to know which guests were "dog people" and which guests were not. They left the "non dog people" alone. The front desk arranged for a nice snorkeling trip for us. The place is designed for relaxing on the beach, but if you're feeling active, you can go on one of many excursions. If you want to go off-site, a taxi can pick you up and take you to Punta Sam to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres or you can catch a ride into Cancun. We enjoyed our stay very much!
