“Unforgettable Adventure!”

My husband and I went to Chalet Maya to spend our honeymoon there... We arrived late night traveled on a dirt road for miles and played guessing games to figure out which way to Chalet Maya since we always ran into a fork in the road. Once we got there we were greeted and escorted to our room... It was amazing! The path ways were romantically lighten up with luminaries as if it were just for us! We felt as if we were the only ones there. We ventured off and walked along the shore to see millions of stars. Since the place is so remote there are no city lights there, it was absolutely gorgeous. We also had two of the owners dogs that followed us everywhere we went and we felt safe. Everytime we stopped they would sit and wait in a good distance and made sure we were okay. Talking about great service! Our bungalow is right at the shore and we woke up every morning to the sunrise while swimming in the beach. The restaurant food was fantastic and the servers were very friendly. They dedicated all their time to us and served us food and drinks while we were relaxing in our hammocks by the bungalows. They were always at your service. Every year my husband and I make it a tradition ever since this experience to make sure we stay at Chalet Maya. We love this place. This is a great romantic place especially for couples who are looking to rekindle. There is no electricity therefore there are no tv's, radios, etc. So it's just the two of you enjoying one another with no distractions. It's Paradise on Earth! An Unforgettable Adventure!

“Mixed feelings, April 2004”

Our family of 4 plus grand-parents spent 10 days there and though we had a good time I would not recommend the place. The location - as remote as it is (40 min. by taxi to Cancun City) - is great, the beach is fairly nice (though beware, it is a "natural" beach and if you walk along the shore you'll see lots of garbage and seaweed) and the cabanas are spacious, cozy and clean. The manager, Ricardo, is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it looks as if the owner, Michael, lost interest in the upkeep of the place. Garbage lies around the property without being picked-up. The same is true for empty plates and glasses, the pool did not get cleaned every day and it does get filthy when the hotel is full. The restaurant is hit or miss, though the prices are ok.
I would only recommend the hotel to people who want to get away from it all and who do not care about the little details. (A luxury resort is being built next door...so, the solitude will come to an end soon.)

“True Paradise”

Chalet Maya far exceeded our expectations! We spent one week there and were pampered by the staff who were very friendly and helpful. Our bungalow was only steps from the beach and we awoke to the sunrise every morning, spent hours swimming in the ocean and great pool. Our breakfast was delivered to our patio every morning and all the food was very good. We even got drinks delivered to us on the beach. We used our hammocks every evening as the sun went down and listened to the ocean.
It is very quiet and relaxed yet has superior service. I can't say enough good things about Chaley Maya and can't wait to go back!

“Not in good shape”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2004

We spend almost two weeks at the Chalet Maya and loved the wonderful location. The resort was built in a very nice and charming way by the german owner of the resort ("Michael"). Unfortunately the resort itself is not in a very good shape: some things have to be repaired, some things do not work (e.g. credit card machine), some of the mexican service people are not that friendly as the should be. Important to say is also that the resort is far out of Cancun (15km) and the street is sandy and not accessible if it has rained a lot. Taxi drivers in Cancun have to be convinced to drive you to the resort. But soon there will be a new street in place.

“DISAPPOINTED”

The staff was very impolite, particularly the owner Michael & manager Ricardo. The restaurant food was flavorless and overpriced. The bungalows were very dismal with an unpleasant foul-smell. The swimming pool was undersize, filthy, and malodorous. I sincerely suggest staying away from this place
