“dont believe negative reviews”

before i went i saw alot of negative reviews which made me a little nervous but i can tell you they must have been due to time share sales experience.the hotel , rooms were spotless and good size.pool is a little small, beach was great, water a little rough.its very close to clubs, restaurants, shopping heart of everything on the hotel zone.the service by the pool was outstanding thanks to marco the best waiter in the carribbean! the only thing that could have been better is the lobby bar is way too small for the hotel.nightly shows were good food options were good and prepared well.great place, would go back again but beware the timeshare presentations are what they are. same as everywhere else.

“Great Beach Location, Very Average Accomodations, Beware Time Share Sales Pitch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

You will not find a better beach location. You will find many better resorts with less hassle from marketing staff. Upon our arrival, we were tired from our flight and just wanted to check into our room. No such luck. Appears that the Royal chain of hotels uses the check-in to hold you captive with their sales pitch for their all inclusive plan and their time share sales program before they give you the key. It took nearly two hours of wrangling with them until they gave up the key. You might expect this kind of treatment if you accept a "free" offer in exchange for sitting in on a Time Share sales pitch, but we had simply booked a week to rest and relax, and wanted nothing to do with their all inclusive plan or a time share. The ocean view from our room was exceptional. The walk in shower was terrific although the water pressure varied considerably. The kitchenette was nice and allowed us to eat in when we wanted. The double bed was something that you'd expect in a mom & pop motel, not in a "resort" or upscale hotel, which this certainly is not. And, I want to offer a warning to anyone who contemplates staying here. The rooms facing the ocean are split level with a marble floor, all one color. The bed is on the lower level with the sliding glass door beside it. I fell on the steps three times during the first two days. There is no railing, and when the light is shining through the window, there are limited visual cues for navigating the steps. It is even worse at night. The way this room is laid out is a personal injury lawyers dream. So, if you stay here, be careful, the marble floor is hard. The figures they used to try to sell the "all inclusive" package were ridiculous. We ate well for about half what they wanted a day for the "all inclusive" package. There are great restaurants within a 10 minute walk, turning left or right, coming out of the main entrance. If you want to go to town to shop for groceries to eat in, the bus stops right in front of the main entrance. The entertainment offered is adolescent and obnoxious, maybe appropriate for the spring break crowd, but not for families or anyone over 40.

“Great Location with Amazing service”

Took the whole family, kids 9, 6 and 2 to Cancun and had a great time at the Royal Sunset. It was clean and the staff was friendly with excellent service. The hotel was on the ocean side, where the beach and sands were amazing. We also had access to another resort across the lagoon which was great as well. It was nice to be able to spend time at either resort and gave the kids a nice change of scenery, the resort had a shuttle and ferry service to get us around free of charge. It was short walk to the downtown area of Cancun and the hotel provided access to all the attractions with pick up and drop off from the hotel. We are going back for sure!

“Just a hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

We acquired this hotel when we purchased this week through a fundraiser so we are not timeshare owners. We had all inclusive packages so everthing was good. I have never been to a timeshare hotel before. I travel once or twice a year to all-inclusive resorts so coming her was very very quiet for me....not much going on! It only had a lobby with love seats and 2 resteraunts ....no sports bar or lounge to kick back and watch some t.v. or disco etc. There bottom shelf liquor was also not very appealing. also the only bar indoors had about 8 stools in the corner of the lobby?? They had the outdoor entertainment area closed for renovations in all fairness. They also have area at the oceon side with windows that would of made a nice lounge of sports bar area but it closed off for a timeshare setup??? So this is why I say that it is just a hotel because there is nothing to offer! They had asked us to attend a timeshare sale and we declined and they left us alone the rest of the week. I was worried that it was going to be a nightmare like all the other reviews! They had people going through the resort all day long ..everyday... with timeshare sales. The waiters serve drinks around the pool and bring drinks down to the beach,,,nice!! Oh yah did I mention that it has the best beach in the world!!! For a nice massage if you walk down the beach going north and pass the Hard Rock cafe there is a 4 poster shell with a person and a massage table and they are 40 bucks an hour and does a great job and it is so cool listening to the waves while getting a massage. The location of the resort is right next door to the Leblanc. There is a drug store a few minutes up the street so everything is very close. You can go to Google street view and see everything.

The hotel in general is kept really clean and the entire staff was allways very helpfull. We really enjoyed them all. They had just purchased all new outdoor furniture but the roped off areas with all the beds and cushioned loungers are just going to be for the floors 8 and 9. So the rest of the hotel gets the regular loungers?? There is a new management in there for the last 5 months that is making all these new changes.

The food had a small variety and good not great but allways something to eat. The food at the lagoon is excellent for lunch and dinner ala cartes but we were there a week before xmas and it was very quiet time of year and not alot people around so it was very easy to get reservations to everything. The pool bar is really in need of a major upgrade and the pool snack bar is totaly bad.....ate there once and that was enough. The rooms are a bit dated but clean and basic with the normal stuff. The beds were very compy with great duvets. There safes are keyless. We had a room on both sides of the building and the lagoon side is so noisy from traffic below. No balconies on the oceon side and balconies on the lagoon side. The water in the shower went from hot to cold and hot cold constantly the whole week so you had to be carefull not to get scalded. The shuttles run regulary to and from the other resorts in nice mini buses. Also the city buses cost a dollar and run every few minutes and get you were you need to go easily but everything is so close for walking....and very safe. The sunset royal is a great location. There is wireless in the lobby and resteraunt next to lobby and by pool....no computer available in hotel. Also when emailing the hotel for hotel transfers and inquiries they were very prompt in getting back to me within a day. With everything I needed to know. I also talked to them in person and were very professional and helpfull.

Sorry for the long reveiw but I was so wanting some honest info and current info on the resort so I am hoping this helps someone looking at this hotel. We had a great time her and lots of laughs. I am just used to the all inclusive and love to be entertained and get involved with activities so this was not a place for me. I am thinkling that the hotel needs to add a few more details and it would be great. because it is in a great location with such potential. If you need to know anything i would be happy to answer any questions.
