“My first all-inclusive experience, and it was a delight”

I joined my wife on her business trip to the Moon Palace. It is a marvelous resort!

[I cannot comment on price/value, as she was a guest of a sponsor of a large meeting, so we didn't get the bill]

The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. The food was far better than it had to be for an all-inclusive (I was expecting cruise ship-style fare, large amounts of adequate food). We had dinner at Los Corporales, and it was outstanding.

Service is friendly, warm and prompt (except for drinks at the pool. Friendly and warm yes, but a tad slow), which is remarkable given that tips aren't flowing around. I have some foot problems, and as we were walking back from dinner (in the Nizuc area to Sunrise, a good distance), one of the porters in a golf cart gave us a ride!

The 2-person jacuzzi tub was a delight..... : )

If you want to relax, recharge and reconnect, give the Moon Palace a try. You will not be disappointed.

“Beautiful place to spend some time”

Just came back from spending 10 days at the Moon Palace Resort. this is a 1st. class resort.
When they say all inclusive, here they really mean it. The location is great not far from Cancun.
They have 3, 9 hole golf courses right there and access to 2 other golf courses. The spa is wonderful and the food is top rate!!!

Room Tip: If possible get an ocean front room

“wonderful time with everything at hand”

Everything we needed was right there though we did venture into Cancun. Watersports and food and drink were bountiful. The pool was stunning. The service was excellent. We didn't play golf so I can't speak to that except to say the courses looked beautiful from the road. The food was good but not renowned. We had better in Cancun. One plus, however was that if you stay at one Palace resort you can eat at any Palace resort free, which is nice while in Cancun sightseeing. This is because the Moon Palace is actually about 15 miles out from Cancun not really near anything. This isn't really a problem because they have frequent free shuttles.

“Moon Palace Resort: Like no Place on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

If one was to try to sum up the experience of Moon Palace Resort in one word they would have to invent a new one because to my knowledge no word in the English language can possibly hope to do justice to the fabulous service, unending fun, and lasting memories that are complementary with a stay at this resort. For someone with a large, persnickety family where each person wants something different in a vacation experience, Moon
Palace was somehow able to accommodate our every need. Like a Mexican Burger King, the resort lets you have it “your way” in every way, shape, and form with colorful shows, magnificent pools, golf, a zoo, a beach, and a simply beautiful landscape and culture. There are very few resorts that can claim the title of truly all inclusive and this resort is one of them. All of the food, which is more varied than the nation of Mexico itself and prepared meticulously for optimal shape and flavor, is free with a room and served by a crack squad of the most accommodating waiters I have ever seen. It was in the crystal clear pools that dot the grounds of the resort like leaves on the earth in autumn that some of my fondest memories of my brothers were forged. The attraction and enjoyment of this destination cannot be avoided, and like some kind of benevolent virus, everyone catches it before long. For those whose wish is to relax and bask in the golden glory of the sky without distraction, the beach is set up to lure the children into waterslide ripe paradise at one end of the beach and not have the little ones roaming about like nomads on the other side where the adults can relax without getting splashed by water or hit with a rubber noodle. The possibilities for entertainment at the Moon Palace Resort are nearly limitless and trying to fit them all in on one trip is impossible, but don’t be sad, you can always revisit next year.

Room Tip: Every room is absolutely stunning, you can even ask for an xbox for your kids and they'll put on...

“Tips for your trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I noticed from reading 100's of reviews before I left that there were basically two experiences - either very good or very poor. When I arrived in the morning receiving a white carnation, sparkling wine (can be purchased at Walmart for less than $7 per bottle) at desk and chocolates - I was very pleased. They didn't have a concierge room on the 3rd floor so I asked what would happen if I waited - well I got a room with a gorgeous view by 2:30 that afternoon. My room was clean although towels were only replaced once a day. I never got any towel art but did have every other day a beautiful selection of chocolates, mouse and chocolate dipped strawberries. I was in the 'crocodile' section of Nizuc which is on the Ocean and next to the pool. Great location. I didn't have any noise issues.

For drinks - don't just order an alcoholic beverage or you will get the inexpensive local alcohol below the bar. Specify which brand you want and the drink will taste better. Also to get a stronger drink ask for a double. If that is not enough, ask for an additonal floater. Please make sure you stay hydrated by having some water. I always asked for a glass with lime juice and just added water as needed. You can also spend your credits on wine on the beach. I had a bottle of Moet delivered to the VIP area on the beach. It made a fun afternoon and I made some new friends. If you like shooters ask for a bumblebee. It is an attractive drink to have. The electric lemonade made with Finlandia Vodka was also excellent.

I believe the hotel was from 25 to 40% full the time I was there - January 31st to February 7th. There never were line ups for anything. You could go to one restaurant for a meal and another for desert. In fact, one evening went to have a Mexican coffee made with the entire show at 10:30 at night - only 2 other tables were full at that time. The best meals for me were the seafood and Italian at golf course. They tend to overcook the meat so if you want it medium or rare you have to stress this. The lunch I had at los tacos was excellent. The portions are very large. A couple I meet had an appetizer and it was so large for the two of them that they didn't need to order anything else. I also found this at the seafood restaurant. I ended up splitting a main course between the two of us and we still couldn't finish it. I gained 10 pounds over my week there.

I also spent some room credits on swimming the dolphins. I forgot that there are showers and soap available there. The lockers are $4 with a $10 deposit. You get unlimited towels and and can exchange for new ones as needed. Not wanting to spend a day at the water park, I then took a local bus - $1 - into the city and Walmart for shopping. You don't have to be afraid of going into town. If you do take R2 bus to Walmart, you will not see the store from where you get off the bus. You have to cross several lanes of traffic and a large parking lot. Once there I found an employee who spoke English and acted as personal shopper for me. I wanted food items that were from Mexico. I purchased vanilla, hot sauce, coffee, chocolate, spices (tajin) and alcohol all made locally and cheaper than in hotel zone or at the hotel. I would in hindsight purchased all of my alcohol at the airport duty free as then you don't have to pack it in your luggage adding to its weight.

I went to this hotel as my friend was there as part of a group playing golf. It is FAR from the hotel zone - $25 cab ride far. One of the drivers told me it was a 5k walk to the street from the lobby of the hotel and there are signs asking you not to walk or jog on the roadway out. I felt a bit trapped by this. There were buses but you had to be on their schedule and none of them were convenient for going out late at night. I have been to and stayed in the hotel zone at least 5 times so this was inconvenient for me. The disco in Sunrise was never full my entire week and I went there every night. One night there were more staff & security than guests. The music was not consistent and you were not able to get requests played.

One issue that upset me was that I was charged a large single supplement - $900 extra - and others I spoke to had not been. I don't know if this is from the hotel or the travel agency. If you are going on your own be careful of this.

Room Tip: There is a difference between Ocean View and Ocean Front - use your points to upgrade to Ocean View
