My wife and I just returned today (April 15th) from a 4 night stay at the Park Royal Cancun. It was pretty much a last minute trip, but the Park Royal will be on our short list for future trips to Cancun. It is not a 5 star hotel. It isn't really a 4 star hotel simply because of the lack of facilities (only two restaurants and 3 bars). That being said, The PRC is a 3.999 star hotel.

The hotel itself isn't one of the newer hotels in the hotel zone; I would guess it is around 20 years old, but it has aged very well. Everything is very very clean and well kept. Cleanliness seems to be one of their top priorities. We've all seen resorts "hose off" around the pool deck in the evening - the PRC actually takes a buffer with a scrub pad to the entire pool deck every night. In the buffet, they have people dedicated to sweeping up any crumbs that may fall on the floor constantly. I would guess the life expectancy of a crumb on the floor in the buffet is about 20 seconds!

We stayed in a "standard room". It was clean and spacious enough, but lacked a balcony. I think only the Presidential and Ambassador suites have balconies. The furnishings are a little dated, but once again very clean and well kept. Basically, the rooms are just fine, nothing fancy, but nothing to complain about. Nice large shower, plenty of storage, always lots of hot water and an A/C that kept our room as cold as we wanted it. We spent very little time in our room, so that was just fine for us.

The hotel itself consist of two 5 story buildings. One has the reception area, lobby bar, a small gift shop and the restaurants on the lower floors with guest rooms upstairs. The second building is strictly guest rooms on all 5 floors. There are two pools; one is a family and activity pool where they have scheduled activities such as water polo, bingo, fashion shows and the such. The adult only pool is just that - a place to relax and not worry about being beaned with a rubber ball or caught between two 13 year olds having a splash fight. Both pools have bars open during the day, and all the bars stock top shelf brands such as J&B, Canadian Club, Jack Daniels and the like. If beer is your thing, you get a choice of Corona, Corona or Corona (sorry!).

What really makes this place special is the staff. Everyone loves their job, and loves making your stay as special as possible. From the waiters to the bartenders, the maids, the front desk staff - everyone is incredible. The atmosphere among the staff is truly exceptional - this is a 100% team effort to make sure you are happy. Don't forget to pack a pile of $1 bills - a little tip here and there is always nice, and believe me it will be earned - this is the hardest working staff you will ever encounter.

Like I said before, your food choices are limited. There is the buffet, the Italian restaurant and a small grill next to the pool that serves burgers and hot dogs during the day. The buffet is, well, an all-inclusive buffet. Nothing you'll be asking for the recipe for, but a generally good variety of food that wasn't great, but we always found something that we liked - we didn't go hungry. The Italian restaurant is very nice and the food is pretty good (my wife says the Osso Bucco is the best she has ever had). What is going to blow you away is the service. I'm pretty sure it is one waiter and helper assigned to each table. Getting a reservation was no problem, and in hindsight we should have gone to the Italian place more than once.

We really aren't beach people, but the beach was very nice. The PRC provides chairs, those palm leaf shade things and even a life guard. Unlike the Playa del Carmen last year - the PRC has a beach.

We had a great visit at the PRC and will be recommending it to our friends.

My family (Husband, 11 yr old and 14 yr old) met my In laws at the Park Royal. We had an excellent time. The hotel is very clean and well cared for. Please take advantage of the activities for guest in the pool area. The activies staff was excellent not only with the kids but with the adults as well. Upgrade to a suite or the presidential. There is a lot more room. Our suite consisted of two rooms .. one with a murphy bed and the other with two double beds, two bathrooms and an table area w/ fridge. Plenty of room for a family of four. They staff in the restaurant was exceptional. The food was not only plentiful but also very tasty. The Italian restaurant was wonderful. We were able to get reservations very easily even late in the day. The beach was great.... We were not ever ask about a tour by anyone at the hotel. AquaWorld has a tour service next to the pool but they always let you come to them and were just helpful with any questions not at all pushy. Very family oriented...

Our first visit to Cancun WILL NOT be our last. What a great time and Park Royal is a huge part of our good time. The resort is small but in tip top shape and super clean! We stayed in 2 rooms one day a studio and 4 day's Presidential. The studio had no balcony which we did not like but still a great room. Now the Presidental Sweet was perfect. We had a lagoon view balcony with Jacuzzi (great at night) with great views..we loved it! The food was good. Not gourmet but good. The buffet had a big selection and was just right. The Italian restaraunt was good also. Small menu but good. The bartenders were great! Alway's asked if you wanted a double in your drink. Make sure you tip them. The beach was very nice. The water was a bit rough but we got one day with small waves and swam for hours. My only complaint would be house keeping. Out of the 5 days we were there they only restocked our waters once. All in all we loved Park Royal and the staff and we loved Cancun. We will be back!

My 26 year old daughter and I just got back this Sunday, We had a fantastic time! As everyone has said - the entire resort is soooo clean you can eat off the floors. Everyone in the hotel, staff as well as guests, were so friendly and helpful that we wanted for nothing.

The weather was very windy and we could not swim in the ocean. The beach was wonderful and we did wade in the ocean as well as walk along the shore. The pool was beautiful and we were able to swim and participate in wateraerobics. There are activities poolside all day that you can participate in (bingo, pool volleyball, games). We had massages at the spa which were the best we have ever gotten (it was a little too windy to have them at the beach). Of course, the swim up bar was great. The drinks were great and there was never a problem if you wanted them a little stronger - mas tequila or mas rum, corona on tap!

Our room was a plain, simple, very clean room with more than enough towels or anything we needed. Housekeeping gave us an iron and more blankets upon request. To be honest, we left our room in the morning at 8:00 and didn't return until 5:00 to shower, relax and get ready for dinner. We were hardly in the room at all. There were evening activities of games, karaoke and casino night. If you want to go to clubs for the night, the staff does transportation and VIP admissions so there are no long lines and the price includes unlimited drinks.

The food was very good. It wasn't gormet but we were not expecting that. and cannot complain at all. The Italian restaurant was wonderful with a violin player and great ambiance. The food and service was good and very relaxing. We were going to go there another night but with activities and late lunches we just went to the buffet. The buffet food was very good, abundant, and there was always something to find to eat.....the breakfasts were exceptional. Even the little snack shack served it purpose for a quick bite.

The ruin on the premises was cute and just a little diversion but La Isla mall across the street was gorgeous! It was so nice walking around there, window shopping, having ice cream (which the resort itself is missing) and picking up some souveniers. The fountains there are beautiful and the last afternoon we went to the aquarium. The aquarium costs $10 a person for about a 1 hour stay but it was very nice - we touched stingrays and saw 2 mama dolphins with their babies. We couldn't stay for the dolphin show 'cos we had a plane to catch but we did see them up close and personal.

We did have one unfortunate incident where my daughter's camera was stolen by the pool. It was not any fault of the resort itself but of circumstance of our not being responsible enough and where we were sitting. It's only a camera so we got over it!

This trip was amazing and too short! It was relaxing and fun and we were (and still are) so sorry to leave. Until next time Park Royal!!!!

Upon arrival people were very friendly and helpful, but once at counter some receptionist did not speak english that well so it took over average time to get room situation handled . The price we paid($89 x per person a night,) was way too much for the type of room given, it was basically an average hotel room with no mini fridge, no iron or iron board, two double beds and a little 19 inch tv that had very little color an just about every channel had static. They included breakfast, lunch, and dinner into the price which was okay, but to me it did not make up for the room accomendation, the buffet was pretty much the same everyday. They included an open bar which was nice, but if you are not a drinker and only drink maybe a specific brand of beer or liquor you may be dissapointed they served mostly names i never heard of, but of course they had tequila. They also have gym and spa which both cost to utilize, But overall the staff was some of the nicest people i've met . But at $2,225(overall price we paid for 5 days for 5 people), I did research once i got back found many suites with the price range for rent from $1200 till $1500 with the accomandations like a house kitchen, full size fridge, balcony, even a iron an etc. Only thing is no free meals or drink, but they have stores if u wanna buy your own beverages, your own grocerys or just go to diffirent restaurants to have a variety, which to me i rather had done.So if you prefer to have a basic room and have food provided for you tand maybe going with just two then this will be probably for you,but if you are going with at least 4 or more people I suggest you look elsewhere like at one thats owned and charging you a flat rate like $1500 for the whole week (7 days) with a better accomandations.
