“First Timers”

This was our first time in Mexico and Cancun in particular. We didn't know what to expect, but we didn't set them too high. Were we wrong, it was great. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. My wife's glasses had to be fixed three times. The maintenance staff fixed them immediately and even brought them to our room the final time they were fixed.

There were two draw backs staying here. First, the "Royal Holidays" people were a pain in the butt. They would not take NO as a final answer. It got bad enough that we used the outside stairwell to avoid going through the lobby. We were there on vacation, not there to be brow beaten into buying something we have no interest in.

The second draw back was not having printer access for the computer in the lobby. We were doing up our boarding passes and seats on-line, for our return flight home, and there was no printer to access for printing them out in the hotel. We were told to e-mail it to the concierge and she would print them out....ummm NO. We went to the Plaza de Isla and found an internet cafe. We spemt $70 peso and 15 minutes to complete our needs. We had wasted $10 USD in the hotel for internet access.

I stress again that these were the only drawbacks of our stay. The hotel was beautiful and clean and our room was a beautiful retreat after a day of being a tourist.

Thanks again.
Ernie Berg

“Life is perfect at The Park”

This was our 3rd trip to The Park Royal and it's become our home away from home.
We have travelled a lot on the last few years, and this resort is the cleanest place I have ever seen. It is spic and span!! There is always someone cleaning somewhere.
We love this resort for many reasons, we love the location because its within walking distance to everything. The food is delicious, there's something for everyone. If there is something special you'd like, they'll do there best to get it for you. A simple smile and a thank you goes a long way.
The main reason we keep coming back though......its because of the staff.
Its wonderful to be remembered, they wait on you hand and foot. This is the only resort where they take your plate from you as you head to your table from the buffet. They pull your chair out and lay your napkin on your lap. It just feel's special.
The rooms are basic but clean. Our maid took great care of us. They leave 2 bottles of water for you everyday, although the water is drinkable

We lucked out with perfect weather, it was windy but thankfully so....we would have fried. The beach was red flagged everyday. Its a beautiful walk, you can go for miles in both directions.
We did see the lifeguard save two people the first day, the undertow is fierce. Another person needed to be rescued after he lost control of the skido. Be careful !!
I did notice for the first time that they have the Marines on the beach every afternoon, 2 sets come on 4 wheelers....there checking the sellers on the beach. They are there for our protection and to help make the tourists feel better about all the problems we hear about at home.
I feel safe in Mexico, safer than I do in Toronto.
It saddens me to hear about another Canadian hurt while on vacation in Mexico, it hurts the Mexican people who are honest and just trying to earn a living.
There are places in Toronto I wouldn't go to alone, and I am always aware of where I am when Im on vacation. There are bad people everywhere......

We will be heading back to The Park Royal next January again.....10 days was just right!!!

“Beware of false advertising!”

First of all, I want to say my stay here was very nice. The rooms and grounds were exceptionally clean and the staff was THE best. But it did have some discrepancies when it came to what was advertised:
1. There is no "Adults Only" pool. Apparently more than 2 years ago they made it a "Family" pool.
2. There is no Free Internet available in the lobby. You pay by the week or by the day.
3. There are no smoking rooms although one was requested at time of booking.
4. Don't expect the front desk to be helpful. They don't have a clue. They didn't even mention the travel agency on the "0" floor when I asked about information about booking tours! And watch out for the time share woman... she is persistent!!
That being said... it was a wonderful week none-the-less. The wait staff is super and the bartenders were fabulous--especially Roberto & Manuel. The food was great, both at the buffet & the Italian restaurant. Just watch out for those slippery floors!

Room Tip: If you're a smoker, take a room with a balcony. It's worth the extra money to spare yourself...

“Great Staff”

I stayed at Park Royal for a week a couple of weeks ago and I had a great time. It was my first time being in Mexico and it exceeded my expectations. I loved everything about Park Royal. The decorations and hotel rooms were a little out dated and old fashioned but we were hardly in our rooms so it was no big deal. One thing I really liked the most were the people that worked there. Our waiters in the restaurant were always so nice and friendly. Joe was incredibly helpful and the entertainment group was perfect. Carlos, Rocio, Alex, Paco, and John were all so great and fun. They always made sure you had something to do and were always trying to get the guests involved. They were all very nice people and fun to be around! Can't wait to come back.

“Stay out of the Lobby!!”

I just returned today from the Park Royal, Cancun.
Positives 1st.
Very neat grounds, beach and room. This however has been the rule not the exception for all 5 of my visits to mexico.
Bartenders & wait staff & room keepers friendly and do a very good job making you feel welcome. Again, the rule for resorts in Cancun, Riveria Maya and Puerto Vallarta.
Great location across the street from La Isla mall and 15 minute walk to Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville.
Italian restaurant was excellent service and food. Reservations same day between 2-4 pm...rare!
Now the bad...
Buffet was small with limited selection for lunch and dinner. Food quality was slightly below the other all inclusives we have had.
This was the 1st place we have stayed that did not have ice cream soft serve on tap or french fries available at the buffet...
Beds and pillows were rock hard..pretty common for mexico. Also if you are taller than 5'10" your feet will hang off the end of the bed.
Both pools ice cold.
We were one of very few families at this resort from the US. Most were from South America (Brazil) I only mention this because they think a speedo (men) or a thong bikini with full buttox exposure (women) is proper attire anywhere on the property. I have never been so happy to be back to minnesota and heavy jackets!
Finally, here is why I would not go back to this place. It was impossible to go thru the lobby area during the day with out being attacked by the time share sales people. I have owned a time share and stayed at many places in florida and mexico that had sales people on site but this was absolutely relentless. It was as bad as walking thru a flea market.
I did take photos but nothing really new from other travelers.
There are so many places to choose from on the hotel strip if you think this one is your best choice because of the price keep looking

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side (lagoon) have best afternoon sun and less wind off of the beach
