“Wonderful vacation”

My wife and I recently stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna Cancun Resort with my in-laws and my five children and had a truly spectacular vacation. The pool is very nice and doesn't feel crowded, there is plenty of beach space with lots of covered and uncovered lounge chairs, the wait staff were friendly and very accommodating, and the atmosphere is fantastic. We loved the "Old Spanish" style theme of the resort. For us, the Marriott Casa Magna Cancun Resort was an excellent family destination but I would not hesitate to take my wife there with just the two of us for a romantic getaway.

Already trying to figure out how to get the family back there again...

Room Tip: Third floor has larger balconies

“I Found Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott CasaMagna for 4 days in late January and absolutely found paradise. We are Marriott Gold members with plenty of nights in hotels to compare to. We booked a Resort View room and were upgraded to an ocean view room at no charge. Below I have a few details on which rooms have the better views.

Property - This property is immaculate. Yes, if you looked really hard and don’t spend your time looking at the gorgeous ocean and beach I am sure you could find little problems but we found marble floors that you could see your reflection in. The public areas are updated, spacious and beautiful. The pool area and grounds are very clean – very little sand infiltration from the beach. The hotel was not at capacity and therefore we did not find any issues with finding shade throughout the day. The hot tub is large holding at least 30+ people.

Rooms – Our king room on the 4th floor was spacious with the bed facing the ocean which was nice to wake up to in the morning. The bathroom was on the larger side with a separate room for the commode. While there is only one sink, there is plenty of room for two people to get ready at the same time. You will find a safe, bathrobes and slippers along with the standard Marriott amenities. The balcony was nice with 2 chairs and a table on it.

Getting the best view – The hotel is in a “U” shape. These room numbers are based on the 4th floor but I think translate to all floors. Any rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor I believe are deemed resort view (you may have a partial view but I would not count on it). Rooms 4060 – 4075 face the roadway and will not have an ocean view. While all other rooms will technically have a view, some will only be seen from the balcony. Rooms within the following numbers will put you out on the ends of the wings or along the back with a direct view of the ocean so try and snag one of these if possible. 4010-4029, 4040-4059 or 4088-4106. Rooms on the 3rd floor appear to have bigger balconies on them.

Staff – As mentioned in previous reviews the staff is very friendly and outgoing. From the time we arrived at the airport and the driver greeted us by name, we found the entire staff professional, courtesy and willing to do anything to help us out. They are absolutely the best and help make our stay even that much better.

Restaurants – we ate at several restaurants and found the food very good. The breakfast buffet is incredible – and while it was included in our room rate, I think the price of $22 is not that bad compared to other Marriott buffets at $18 or so. The selection is huge with breakfast and lunch items. We found everything fresh and tasty. My favorites were the pastries and omelet station and even if you are not a hot chocolate fan, try it – very good. We also at the Steakhouse and found the food very exceptional. Also at the Thai restaurant – the setting is awesome and the food good. While it is technically Thai food, there is definitely a Caribbean flare to it (lots of citrus flavors). So be adventurous and I think you will enjoy it. We also at on the beach most days and the service and food was good – try the peel and eat shrimp.

Overall we felt very safe, drank the water at the resort with no issues. This property is located in the middle of the hotel zone and an easy bus ride to the shopping and night life. You won’t go wrong staying at this little part of paradise.

“Great value and Good Location”

My husband and I have been to Cancun several times, and we have stayed at the CasaMagna twice, truely enjoy our stay, the conceirge is very helpful in recommending restaurants and things to do. The rooms are regular size and beds are comfy, our room had a small balcony but very small. They even have coupons and discount cards if you ask for it and will even call to make the reservation for you. They do have internet service and it's not cheap!
There are several dining options within the resort, we very much enjoyed the Breakfast buffet, they had fresh fruits and juices daily with Mexican and American foods. The Thai restaurant was very good but service was slow. The only thing I think they could improve on was the wait staff at the pool side. If you want to save money take the local bus, it was like 7 pesos but you will need exact change. This resort is family oriented so if you have kids, you like it!

Room Tip: Defintely would opt for an Ocean view!

“Get Spoiled”

My son and I stayed at the Casa Magna from January 14th thru the 21st as part of a large group function. From the moment we entered the building we were made to feel like royalty. Our room was spacious, clean and the view was breathtaking. The staff at Casa Magna was extremely attentive and professional. Their disposition was always cheery and patient even at times when we witnessed other vacationers being unbearable.
The restaurants were FANTASTIC. Our dining at La Capilla was especially memorable with the food and service being top notch. Mikado also was a must try. Fantastic. We tried Champions on game day and enjoyed the food and service. The breakfast buffet was amazing. By the way...if you get a chance, try the lime soup. Amazing.
We had room service a couple of times and the service even in this was incredible. The food arrived quickly and elegantly and it was always delicious.
We spent a great deal of time on the beach. We did the palapas the first couple of days but soon realized we preferred the chairs closer to the beach and for tanning reasons. Even the service at the beach was incredible. We never had to run for our own drinks being that there was always someone available asking us if we needed anything. Loved how on top of the tide situation the lifeguards were. Numerous times they had to whistle some men in closer to shore for their own safety.
Our group had two different dinner nights at Casa Magna that provided amazing food and incredible entertainment. I have seen some postings where people felt the music was too loud and we may have been some of those being treated to the wonderful entertainment. These events never ran very late and even with our leaving the events early to retire we did not feel there was bad noise.
All in all our week at Casa Magna was relaxing and we felt absolutely decadent in how well we were treated. The staff is the best I have ever experienced. Both my son and I found it hard to come back to the states for the "typical" service here that is sometimes rude and of a just get by kind of standard. The only rudeness we ever witnessed at Casa Magna was, as said earlier, from other guests but thankfully that was only a couple times. The Casa Magna truly spoiled us.

“Very Nice Hotel, Very Inefficient Check-In”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

people found this review helpful

We arrived at 1:00 pm on Saturday. A room was not available, but we were told to return around 3:00. At 3:00 we were told a room was still not available, and it was pointed out to us (by the same person we saw at 1:00) that check-in was at 4:00, as if she had never told us to come back at 3. We returned at 4:00 and were told a room was not available. I told the clerk that was absolutely unacceptable and asked to see the manager. When the manager came, he miraculously found us a room right away. He took our luggage claim check and said our bag would be brought right up. We reached the room at 4:15. At 5:30, no bag, so I called and was told that it was on its way. At 6:15, I went back to the desk and was sent to the luggage room. There was out bag with the claim check attached. It was the only bag in the room; all the others had been delivered. No one could or even attempted to explain why ours was not delivered.

The next day, when we returned to the room, we had a message from the front desk asking me to bring my voucher (the room was prepaid) to the desk so they could copy it. The desk clerk who checked us in had copied it when we arrived, but apparently there was no trace of that.

On check-out day, we returned from the beach to find a note on our door that someone had been by to check the mini-bar but we had a do-not-disturb sign on the door. No such sign had ever been placed on the door, certainly not what I expect from Marriott, which we partronize regularly.

All in all, I found the hotel management to be quite inefficient. On the other hand, the hotel itself was very nice and the room was everything one would expect of a Marriott. We have no complaints about that. We had a 3rd floor room on the side facing the pool, but because the room is "slanted", we had a nice view of the beach and the sea from the large balcony (rooms on floors above 3 have smaller balconies, but they also have a beach/sea view).

Other than the afternoon we arrived and the morning we departed, we spent very little time at the hotel, so we can't comment on the hotels services and amenities. Instead, we had booked all-day tours of several Mayan ruins. We found the tours to be well-worth the price paid, but be warned, the sites are several hours removed from Cancun, so there is a lot of time spent riding a bus. I don't mind that as I enjoy seeing the countryside, but some may feel the time spent at the sites isn't a good balance for the time spent getting to and from the sites (including pick-up and drop-off at various hotels).

Thank you very much for giving us your feedback. Our check-in time is in fact at 4PM; we always do our best to give the rooms earlier to our guests when our occupancy allows us to do that. We agree this information should have been given to you by our Guest Service Agent at the very beginning. We are sorry your luggage was not delivered in a timely manner; we are giving the proper follow up to all your comments in order to make all our check-in process fast and accurate.
