“Great Interval International Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We got this week (Dec 24-31 2011) via an Internaval Internationl getaway in October for only $500. What a steal and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. The Islander, Caribbean and Mayan are connected, so we tried a different pool every day. None of the resorts were crowded, very surprising considering the holiday week. No problem getting pool chairs in the shade. The property is well maintained and workers are constantly present cleaning, etc. The restaurants leave a lot to be desired - mediocre food. You are much better off going into the Zona Hotel for restaurants. Thomas More was great - we booked our transfer and the Chichen Itza Express tour through them and they were efficient and money well spent.

Each of the pools and beach have happy hour every day, and it's a very good deal. However, the waiter/waitress service is hit or miss. We had several wonderful waiters, and one extremely horrible waitress. Too bad, as if she'd been even slightly competent, she could have garnered additional a bigger tab from those around the pool.

We were invited to a timeshare presentation, which lasted about 30 minutes. Although our sales representative was fine, the sales manager who came over was pretty much of a jerk. Unfortunately, that has been our expeience with Mexican time share managers at other timeshare resorts, so should not come as a surprise. The timeshare pricing is actually quite attractive and would have warrented some serious thought on our part, but the sales manager's attitude pretty much put sealed the deal against purchasing. All of the people we spoke with around the pool who were owners appeared to be very happy with their purchasing choice, so it must be a pretty good resort to come to every year.

“Absolutely Love the Royal Islander”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for 2 of our weeks while in Cancun and had a wonderful time. Staff is like family and treat you just amazing. Rooms are very clean, and many services are offered right at the front desk, travel plans, trips, etc.

Cancun is very safe to travel and even if you never leave the resort area you can visit many restaurants/attractions/shopping etc.

We are owners at the Royal Sands and Royal Mayan as well and love all the Royal Resorts!

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are great and a second floor makes for convenience and still can leave your doors...

“Cancun is Safe”

We travel each year to Cancun and stay at the Royal Islander which is one of many Royal Resorts in that area. The accomadations are first class. The staff is extremely friendly.
The area of Cancun is without the crime which occurs at the borders. I feel very confident taking my family to Cancun..

“Home Sweet Home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We are not members of the Royal Resorts, but we have rented there more than 10 times. Upon arrival a few years ago there was a banner that said "Welcome Home" and that is exactly how we feel there, at home! From the maid, to the grocery store clerk to the wait staff, they remember us! This was our second time staying at the Royal slander and as always, the resort is extremely clean and well maintained and the staff is very friendly. Service at the restaurants, as well, as around the pool and on the beach are excellent!
Make sure to try some of their specialty drinks, like Banana Monkey, Miami Vice and Bushwacker!

“Relaxing vacation spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

First time in Cancun this past week (Jan 14-21, 2012) and had a wonderful vacation. Impressed with the resort and its sister resorts as well. Stayed in their smaller unit, but with two double beds, a small table, large closet, microwave and mini fridge we were more than satisfied with the space (it was just two of us). Water is purified at the hotel, staff friendly and helpful, reasonable prices at the market. Food was solid and not insanely expensive (except for the Italian buffet night), but we enjoyed getting out of the resort and exploring a bit on our own. While the hotel runs free shuttles, we preferred the frequency of the buses (less than $1 pp) to get around along the strip and into downtown. Pool and beach was nice, however many people reserved their chairs well before 9am despite posted signs (no enforcement). Also of note, the resort was tall enough that half of the chairs along the pool were in the shade for half of the day. Happy hours were notable and enjoyed daily, as were the swim-up bars. I think I enjoyed the pools at the Royal Sands better, because of their size and dedicated lap pool (which of course was not enforced either so kids were playing as i was trying to swim). Beds and pillows were my least favorite part of the stay... they were fine but as a side sleeper I found it very uncomfortable and my hips were in pain all week. Overall a very enjoyable place for a relaxing vacation!
