“I LOVED this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2011

It's not a big resort, so the service is far more personal. It's a little bit older and smaller so the feeling of it is much more genuinely Mexican than American, and that's what we wanted. The beach is nice and clean, it's a good size for the amount of people who stay at the hotel during the day, it's very quiet and relaxing! Lots of places to lounge and suntan or read in the shade :)

The service was impeccable! We never waited more than a minute or two for our drinks, and we were treated very kindly by the staff and enjoyed their ability to tease us and remember what we liked! The staff at the concierge desk was above reproach as well! We had some issues with a tour we'd booked online before getting to Mexico and when that company failed to pick us up Karla was there to call the company for us and guide us through the stressful experience with good humor and knowledge! The next day when we were picked up by the tour company, Eddie came over to make sure we were being treated well and wouldn't be given any trouble after the previous day's experience.

Without those two our time in Mexico may have ended up being far less enjoyable!

The food was DELICIOUS - the buffet was a little bit different every day, and both fancy restaurant experiences were wonderful! The Garlic Toast in the Italian Corner is something EVERYONE should try - and the Beef Steak in the Frida Restaurant was the best steak I've ever had!

I could gush more, but I won't :) Suffice it to say I loved this hotel and would DEFINITELY return! I've already booked my parents a stay here and they're looking forward to their stay!

PS: My only "complaint" was how hard the beds were :P But I hear that's the norm in Mexico, no matter where you stay.

“Nice, quiet and great location!”

We really enjoyed our stay here, the staff was nice and helpful. It was quiet and in a great location - we loved the sister resort "Sunset Royal" as the beach was absolutely to die for! There is not much for a beach in this general area, it is right beside Temptation resort so if you know any one who has been there they will say the same I'm sure. The rooms were nice as we upgraded to a spa deluxe room although I hear the base rooms aren't anything much...but remember this is a 3 star resort and as such I was overall quite pleased with the amenities. The price was outstanding!
We were out and about taking in the sights and did not spend a great amount of time at the resort at all. We defintely enjoyed the nightlife! For $50 dollars and the right chaperone/entertainment staff (the hotel has them) you can get transportation and VIP service at the top clubs and it is well worth it.
We had the all inclusive package and spent our days at the Royal's beach - we tipped well and were treated very well. We ate at both the Royal and Ocean's restaurants and the food was really good.
The timeshare presentation is a drag unless you are looking to buy one. If we were a little older we may have purchased one, we just weren't looking for that at all. We were told once we said no that would be it and were free to go - which was NOT the case. We tried to be patient but they were very aggressive. As I said if you are looking for a timeshare then this a great way to get one but if you are not it is very difficult to get away once you are there! We gritted our teeth and got through it after saying no about 100 times and just looked forward to the rest of the week, which we really enjoyed.
All around we loved Cancun, the hotel was very comfortable and the service was great.

“wonderful and relaxing”

If you don't mind that the beach is not the nicest place to swim....it is a wonderful place to stay and relax. The food was ok, the beach was nice for tanning, the grounds were very well kept, the pool was nice, the staff were friendly and quick to get you a drink. You can take a shuttle to the sister hotels that have nicer beaches /or the marina area and they are also accomodating. The room was clean and nice enough. The place is quieter than the beach hotel....and they offered wonderful "theme" dinners on the beach at night...for several evenings during our stay.

I would definately come back here. My room was a nice size with a comfy bed. there are three restaurants to choose from. The food was very good.
The staff at this resort does everything to make you feel comfortable. I went to the concierge desk a few times for directions and help with planning day trips. They were very helpful and always smiling. I had the pleasure of Maureen helping me plan a day trip. She was great !
I will be back and plan to stay here again.

“Not bad at Ocean Spa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

I am at the Ocean Spa Hotel now and its not that bad. Yes it is an old hotel and very basic furnishings but that what you get at this priced resort. I got here Sun night and am very happy here. I have not heard anyone complain about anything except the weak drinks. They put very little liquor in them. Tipping didn't seem to help. I agree about the Ocean not being good but it doesn't matter as I don't go in. Not everyone has alot of money to travel so you do the best you can to get to Cancun and enjoy a vacation and still have money to go do things. I am on a fixed income so I can either come once a year to a cheaper resort or come every 3 or 4 years at a nicer one. I choose to come every year LOL
