we stayed at the blue bay for 1 week and have mixed feelings about this hotel.
my room was amazing overlooking the ocean with a kingsize bed and air cond but no fridge. we got told on day 5 that that the room we was staying in was timeshare and we would have to move out that day to another one! told them was really un happy about this giving us 2 hours notice to move all our things and insisted on a like for like room. later on they told me they had made a mistake and it was nt my room after all but the rooms next to it. thankfully i had nt packed any of my things.
some people that had booked the hotel 10 months in advance was told that there was now no room for them and would have to go to the sister 5 star hotel (which had been on holidays from hell) obviously a lot of unhappy people!
on the positive side the staff are lovely and do there best to make sure you enjoy your holiday. the hotel is very clean though i did contact a topical virus and had to have a course of antibiotics when got home. the food again is very nice and plenty of it, the buffet is different every day.
tip: they do not put bacon on the buffet in a morning they hide it under the counter so just ask for it. why they do this i ve no idea!
queue early if want to eat at any of the other restaurants. one day i queued for 45 mins and could nt get into the restaurant i wanted to eat at.
the entertainment was nt for me, but they try! there is nothing after 10.30 but you can always go to one of the clubs, usually a different one nighty and apparently its good value for money. entrance into club with all in drinks and transfers $40 each.
the hotel is very isolated, no shops or anything near by. there is a shop in the hotel but charge £2.50 for an english paper and only have about 10 and they are a day behind.
overall i had a lovely relaxing holiday but there is definetly improvements that could be made. i found the reception staff very disorgainised at times, charging us for things that we had nt used or returned, but it didnt spoil are holiday, saying that i would nt return to the blue bay
if you have any q feel free to e mail me

As soon as you have checked in you are directed to a desk in the lobby where they want to book you for the Welcome Tour. Because we had read comments here about the timeshare sellers, we informed them that we were not at all interested in buying a timeshare and that they did not need to waste time on this. They insisted this was for a tour of the facilities and that they would not bother us with the timeshare presentation. Our appointment was for 8:30 the next morning. At 8:00 a lady came in where we were eating breakfast and asked in they could start early. We then spent 15 min. waiting for the person to show us around. We told her not to waste her time on the timeshare presentation and she assured us she wouldn't. Two hours later we told her that she had 15 min. to finish and then we walked out. While we were there it appeared that they were only focused on Americans and Canadians. They did not appear to be bothering any of the people from the UK but from other comments here, it looks like they try to get them too.

After a 10 hour flight and 2 hours to get through the airport arrivals i was a little bit apprehensive about what the hotel was going to be like from our journey from the airport. The area on the way to the Blue Bay Club is not the best to say the least. There was graffiti everywhere and almost every window had bars on them. On arrival at the hotel we were put in a room with no balcony across the road away from the main part of the hotel. My first thought was this is turning into a nightmare instead of a holiday in paradise!!! However, on complaining to the staff at reception we were offered an upgrade to a sea-view room as soon as one became available.

This is when the holiday really started. The sea-view rooms are amazing, really spacious and comfy, we had two double beds! The rooms were cleaned daily to a very high standard, with fresh towels everyday. We never seen our room-maid but did leave her a big tip at the end as she had done such a wonderful job.

All the staff in the hotel are really friendly from the bellboys, to the cleaning staff, to the waiters and entertainment team. Everyday everything is cleaned, there is always someone sweeping the halls, restaurant, stairs. The seaweed is removed from the beach every morning and the decking and pool area is washed down every night.

The food in the main buffet style restaurant is fantastic with a good variety every mealtime. Breakfast is lovely and the pancakes and french toast are well recommended!! Ostras & Oysters is okay depending on what kind of food you like, I don't like fish so wasn't really for me. The outdoor restaurant (italian style) pasta & pizza is also very good. There are also snacks available late at night after the restaurants have closed.

The pool is not as big as I thought it would be, however, it is a good pool with 3 jacuzzis that you can sit and relax in. The deck is super for sunbathing or there is the beach with the tiki umbrellas for a quieter time sunbathing away from the kids playing.

The entertainment in the hotel is really good, the staff are superb especially Dario, although they are all really friendly and take time to talk to guests. There is a varied entertainment program during the day for young and old alike, inluding volleyball (pool and beach), football, quizzes, bingo! The entertainment team is not very big but the are so energetic and are on the go all the time. They provide entertainment during the day at the pool area, and also at night in the Theatre 3 nights a week, plus evening entertainment at the pool bar, with kids contests followed by adults contests. They don't stop there though, there is also a trip every night to one of Cancun's top nightclubs. Coco Bongos is out of this world, everyone should visit this at least once!!!

We took the shuttle bus to the Blue Bay Getaway one afternoon, and took a few taxi journeys to the shopping mall, great shops at La Isla. We would recommend taking taxis from the hotel as you get there quicker and they are reasonable price we never paid more than 200 pesos for any journey. Wet & Wild is an okay waterpark, nothing special with only 3 big rides and a wave pool, although there is the opportunity to swim with dolpins and sealions at the park.

Reading some of the reviews people were complaining about timeshares sellers in the hotel, we were never approached by any and although there was tour operators in the hotel you were never hassled into taking any of the tours.

We went on two trips while in Cancun, Pirate Assault and swimming with dolphins. The Pirate Assault was good, you travel to Isla Mujeres (Woman Island) it was a bit disappointing to find out it wasn't the trip with the actual pirate boats but was highly entertaining. Swimming with dolphins was amazing, definitely the best thing i have ever done in my life, however be careful because it can be quite expensive when it comes to buying photos, dvds etc. afterwards.

Some day we will definitely return to the Blue Bay Club, after being round to the hotel zone we more than satisfied with our hotel as it was quiet the hotel zone always seems so busy no matter what time of day your there.

If you're looking for a nice calm relaxing holiday, with the opportunity to go mad once in a while, then the Blue Bay Club is the place to stay, and please please don't be put off by the surrounding area, we had the time of our lives here.

Timeshare sales are big business at this place and they will grab you the moment you walk in the front door, never mind you have just spent 15 hrs travelling with a young family. Don't be beguiled by talk of a one hour presentation, 3 hrs later they were still going strong!
The entertainment is nothing short of appalling and goes on incessantly from morning to night, the main protaganist really loving the sound of his own voice, usually amplified.
There is precious little shade around the pool, no wireless internet access, and the sea is no good for snorkelling. The Blue Bay is a long way out of town, so every excusion or trip takes an hour each way longer than hotels in the zone. The Club has an ageing shuttle bus but it only takes you to one end of the strip and runs at best every 45 minutes.
What's good about the Blue Bay, well they have one good restaurant, the other is mediocre and the staff are generally keen to help and be pleasent. Would i go back? Not in a million years.

Me, my boyfriend and 2 of our friends went to the Blue Bay club may 28-june1 of this year. We had a fantastic time. Where we were wasn't the best place to look at but when you went by the pool it was gorgeous. We had a wonderful view of the marina from our balcony and the hotel staff was very accomadating. The food was good, wasn't the best but hey no complaints. Our routine would be to get up around 8ish grab a little breakfast from the buffett, go back upstairs and change, then head down to the pool and beach until 4ish. The activities were a lot of fun and the staff was friendly and funny. The best bartenders there were at night outside, Hugo and Lizardo. And the ride to in town wasn't bad, all you had to do was take the shuttle to blue bay getaway and that saved some money on the taxi. I would definately go back again.
