We stayed at BBC Feb 20-27 and were pleasantly surprised by it. Yes, as you will read it is a ways off the Hotel Zone but we would take the shuttle to the sister hotel and catch a bus for 65 pesos (truly an experience you have to do) We rode it down towards the end of hotel zone, got off and bused back up again just to see the other hotels and got off at the big market. The hotel is much more cosy and intimate than the big ones. Everyone from doormen to front desk to bar staff were friendly, outgoing and helpful. The rooms were very clean, large and we always had hot water and AC. One of our suites had a broken door that was fixed for us within 5 minutes, while we were settling in. We had asked for one suite to have 2 beds as we took our adult children with us (20 girl & 18 boy)- it only had one bed and we expected a cot to be brought in - instead they moved a double bed in and they still had room to spare. We were "fortunate" that they did not have 2 junior suites close by so they asked if we would accept this other accommodation next to their room. We were taken up a narrow set of stairs by their room to a room, again larger, huge king bed -...We stayed at BBC Feb 20-27 and were pleasantly surprised by it. We were "fortunate" that they did not have 2 junior suites close by so they asked if we would accept this other accommodation next to their room. We were taken up a narrow set of stairs by their room to a room, again larger, huge king bed - with, get this, a jacuzzi on our balcony (I thought I died and went to heaven) Imagine, every night, a glass of Sambuca on ice, over looking the ocean, with Isla Majares in front and the hotel zone to the right and the waves breaking in on shore. The beach was a 2 minute slow walk away (you do have to walk out of the hotel) with plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas available. Again you will have read about the seaweed - yes there is lots, but this is the ocean. And the sand bags, which you can barely see, are keeping what beach is left there. By the way, hotel zone has almost NNNNOO beach left (our original hotel has bolders and a back hoe in it but NNNNOOO beach. The staff is constantly out there cleaning it up, if they haven't got there yet, step over it, it doesn't bite. The only request I had was that they did not change our bed linen everyday, I don't do this at home so why do it there. It was not damp like in the Mayan Riviera. The food is okay, but a lot more than if I was cooking (if you like bacon, ask for it from the cook at the grill - they keep it hidden). If you are adults only or have adult children with you go to the sister hotel for the buffet, it is out of this world. The bar here is full of beds and pillows and is top optional, so be prepared. The restaurant at the BBC called Ostras and Oyster is excellent (book by 9:00 AM0 and a must to do and the Chinese restaurant at the Getaway is to die for (not your cantonese food) For those of you who read and take a book there is a book exchange at the top of the stairs by the lobby - I left two and took 2 more to read (spent alot of time on the beach) Grisham - Steele - Nora Roberts etc. I also suggest you go to Market 28 - can really deal there, like one big honkin flea market. Go across the street from BBC to the taxi stand and ask to go there, worth the $9.00 cab fare. Take a big sipper mug for the beach, not so many trips, I just had mine filled with Margarita on ice, no salt, and I was set for awhile anyway. Time share again you have read about, yes they are there, we sat in for one so we could get two tickets to Isla Majares on a 3 hull katamaran? and we bought 2 more for $49.00 each, because it leaves from the Getaway it is cheap, others paid up to $75.00 for same thing. This tour is basically a booze cruise there, shark encounter, snorkel on a reef, shopping in town, buffet (again excellent) and booze cruise back, with spinnet sailing at the end, it lasted close to 7 hours. The two hours we spent was worth saving $98.00 - I just said after awhile (2hours) I had to go because I wasn't feeling well and we were gone. If you can ask for David (I believe that's what his name was, don't go with Marina she is tough)he was great. Also, a must do tour as far as I am concerned is Xcaret - worth every penny and do the snorkeling and underground rivers and buffet - you will not regret it. Every night they shuttle you to a different Bar (usual cost $35.00 for wrist band - entrance and drinks included but must find own way back, again bus back to Getaway and cab is $10.00 - bars that are good are: La Bomba, Daddy O's, Fat Tuesdays, and The City, if open yet) Our kids would knock on our door when they got in 3:30 1St time - 4:45 2nd time and 5:30 the morning before we left - needless to say they slept all the way home. Don't know what else I can say, I have read the other reviews for months and I am sure we are on different planets or maybe I just don't expect a $10,000 vacation for $1,600
