“Nice location but bad surprise”

I was very happy with the location of the hotel and it was very quiet so we could enjoy the swimming pool on our own. The swimming pool is children friendly as the deepest is 1m20. The hotel is about 10-15mins walk from one of the big activity centre of the Zona Hotellera and a very nice beach, and 10mins drive from the city centre. We had continental breakfast included in the price (4 piece of toast/butter/jam, coffee/tea/orange juice). The room was not as spacious as the picture would suggest but it was fine for us (2 double beds and a bathroom with a shower) it was clean, fridge and tv were included. The staff was friendly. The airconditioning was a bit loud.
My only deception was that on the day we had advised we would be off all day due to trip to Chichen Itza, some money was stolen from our room (40USD each). I know it was our mistake to leave money in the room as there , but at the time we had had a long day and the trip tio chichen itza was an early departure so we just decided stupidly (and feeling the hotel was safe) not to take all our cash with us for once and left it, hidden, in the room. So the fact some was stolen (mine was in my diary, under my clothes and other books, in a draw, my friend's was in a purse, hidden in clothes, in the luggage, in the cupboard - not exactly apparent nor obvious to be found) on the only day we had advised reception we were going all day is a bit dubious. When we talked to the manager the next morning, he claimed that it never happened before in the 30years or so he has managed the hotel, and that although he was responsible for the safety of our belongings in our room, this did not include cash, which should have been put in the deposit box. Which I understand. He then said we would have to make a police report, which i was very happy to do, since although our bad for leaving money in the room, still some of the staff took time to rummage our room to find the money, this should be reported to the police. We waited for the police and were offered a lunch, and after lunch were told that the person who did our room was off on that day and that would need to wait til the next day. I lost half a day of a very short holiday for that police report and we were leaving the next day. I mentioned that we needed to find the bus station to get to the airport the next day as we were now short in money (another issue my UK card never worked there) and the manager said he would drive us to the airport. the next day we had scheduled enough time to allow for a police report but when we asked about it they said that we had been offered a lunch and the drive to the airport, although it was never mentioned this was to "forget" about the police report so far . I was not pleased as I learnt afterwards the reception forced my friend as she gave the key back to sign some documents stating we were offered the lunch and the drive to not report it to the police when the cab arrived.

“Nice, big rooms, lovely pool, great location and fantastic staff...a pleasure to stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

Having booked relatively last minute I was AMAZED by the quality of the fairly budget-priced Sina Suites: the rooms were enormous and the beds comfy, the staff were immensely courteous and helpful and the facilities of pool, restaraunt/conference room and little pool-side bar were all you could really ask for!

The location is just a 15 min leisurely stroll (3min bus journey) to the big party area of Cancun or in the opposite direction a 15min bus ride to the old town and the markets there. Either way the busses stop just at the top of the road both going and coming (though on the way to the old town you have to walk about 200m on the far side of the road to reach the stop...no real problem!). Theres a golf course right next door too if thats your game and it looked nicely maintained.

The area is very peaceful and the impression is of a real safe haven. Just around the corner is a trio of eateries which turn-out delicious local food and drinks and are open at the usual times with one, "Las Chicas Quesadillas" (although I think I've got the name horribly wrong) staying open pretty late if you need a snack. There is also an invaluable supermarket where you can get food to cook in the litle apartments at Sina Suites where the kitchens are well equipped (pots, pans, knives, forks...) and functional. There is also a little kiosk nearer to the Sina suites but its a little more pricey.

All in all I found everything I was looking for here and I would happily reccomend this as a spot for old and young, sightseer and partygoer: I think all could co-exist quite happily here as the size and layout of the place meant that I hardly saw or heard anyone else from the party I was travelling with all week, and there were 18 of us!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

“Great service and fantastic pool - just be prepared for hard beds and loud air conditioning.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

We chose this hotel to recover from the gruelling 36 hours of travel from New Zealand and relax we did. The grounds of Sina Suites are just magnificent and as we were the only guests for 2 of the 3 days we were there, this meant we had the beautiful pool to ourselves and were spoilt by the owner who dropped us into town on the second day. The breakfasts were lovely (included in the rate). However, we did really struggle with the bed - it was similar to a plank of wood (although this is a common theme as we travelled through Mexico so tended to get used to it) and whilst we did have air conditioning, it was like the sound of an aeroplane taking off (if you were standing on the runway) and it did prevent us from getting much sleep when it was on. There is a bus stop just at the end of the road so we didn't have a problem catching public transport and we enjoyed being based out of the Zona Hotelera - a much quieter spot. While Sina Suites did not have a restaurant, there was a lovely restaurant close by and they did amazing grilled fish!. All in all, the helpful service and lovely pool outweighed the hard beds and lack of sleep.

“Friendly, clean & (for Cancun) cheap - great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2009

Small, squeaky clean suites hotel on the lagoon with friendly & super-helpful owners who run it themselves. Comfortable beds, hot showers with great water pressure & excellent security - its a little dated so if you want a resort or Hilton this isn´t for you - but if you just want somewhere clean & comfortable to stay where the owners go out of their way to help you´ll love it.
Walking distance to bus & old town restaurants - Hacienda is fun & steaks are good - and to Carlos & Charlies & the zona hotellera restaurants & bars if that´s your thing...
