“You get what you pay for! Way too many Europeans, rude, smokers everywhere and food horrible.”

Ok, for $49 a day you get what you pay for. If you don't care about taste of your food or cleanliness of the dining areas then you'll be ok. And get this, you're in Mexico and absolutely NO guacamole anywhere to be found except the Mexican Restaurate where you have to make reservations. The resort was 80% Europeans that were just plan rude, dirty and cheap. Come on, you can't leave $2-3 for the servers at breakfast? They would bring dirty plates back to the buffett, their kids would finger the bread for the toaster and put it back and OMG do they like their cigarettes, you cannot get away from smoke outside anywhere. They would butt in line for the buffets as well. We did not get the room we were promised, so here we were there to celebrate Christmas with our daughter and they brought in an old hospital steel framed rusted bed for her to sleep on. We were to have 2 bathrooms and didn't get that either. The TV's did not work. We were in a Villa which was about 50 yards from beach, but the 3rd night a family of spanish speaking, very loud family took the room that would connect to ours and you could literally hear every word they were speaking, that door that connected was in our kitchen and it was their bathroom - EUUUUU. I have traveled extensively in Mexico and this was by far the worst food I have even eaten. They wanted to charge us an extra $49/night for Christmas Eve dinner, boy am I glad we didn't pay for that. It was just disgusting. The beef wellington could not be cut with a chain saw, turkey under cooked. And the drinks? I don't think there was any real alcohol in them. So very watered down. The only good thing about this place is the beach and water and they have absolutely nothing to do with that. If I were you, I'd take a good look at consistancy of the poor reviews and look elsewhere. We had tiny bugs on our counters and didn't even have any food in the place. There are no vents in the bathroom so it steams up terribly and takes a long time to clear up. I had no issues with hot and cold water in the shower that others have written about, but we were in a villa. Not enough umbrellas around pool and absolutely no umbrellas on beach, no service on beach and if you were lucky, there may be 1 person that came around every 2-3 hours by the pool to see if you wanted a drink. You'd have to stand in line for drinks for only 1 bartender, and again the Europeans would walk up and just order and not wait their turn. Oh, and the bathrooms by the lower level pool? OMG, they smell like a nursing home, very dirty, didn't even want to sit on the seats. Please take your time researching and find the best place that suits you and your needs.

Room Tip: Can't think of any room that would be good.

“Can't wait to go back!”

The hotel was great. All the staff there were friendly and helpful. We are really impressed on Nathanel, waiter in Mexican Lindo Restaurant. His presentation on making the Irish/Mexican Coffee is a "must try". Bravo! Our room has excellent oceanview.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Ocean are better. Higher level is much more quiet.

“Watch out for Vultures!”

My husband and myself just returned from Barcelo Tucancun. We went January 8th thru the14th 2012. When we arrived at Cancun airport we met a gentleman named Antonio who asked us if it was our first time in Mexico and if we were planning on any day trips. We answered yes to both questions. He explained to us that the trips we wanted to take it would cost us $500.00 USD. He also said he would give us 8 tickets for $150.00USD. Plus two free tickets to x-caret. All we needed to do was go to his hotel Beach Palace, listen to a 90 minute vacation package presentation to get this great deal. Two tickets each for Chichen Nitza, Two tickets for Isla Mujueres, Two tickets Jungle Tour, Two day passes to spend the day at the Beach Palace hotel. Plus two free tickets to x-caret. We gave him a $100.00 USD deposit he gave us a receipt with it all in writing. We then proceeded to our hotel Barcelo Tucancun. We arrived at approximately 10:30 am but could not check in till 3pm. So you may want to pack your suits in your carry on so you don't have to wait 5hrs like we did to enjoy the beach. When we finally got in our room it was not a ocean view, with a king size bed like we asked but two brick hard double beds with a beautiful view of the back of the mall. When we questioned this they said we could upgrade for a additional fee. I opted not to because i figuared we were not in our room that much. Also the showers are hard to regulate, but i thought not that big of a deal. The next morning we were heading for the taxis to go to the Beach Palace for our presentation when we were literally chased down by MARTIN! He said we should Not leave the hotel it wasn't safe. he said the Beach Palace was far away! (it was 5 minutes away) He said if they offered us something he could offer us the same thing. same deal. We explained that we already put a hundred dollar deposit down. MARTIN said I can give you same deal, get your hundred back, & give you T-shirt,bottle of Tequilla, and 500 pesos if you go to Barcelo's Luxury hotel and listen to their presentation instead. We agreed. MARTIN called his taxi to take my husband to get our $100.00 back. We then proceeded to the ROYAL HOTEL. Once we arrived they wrote us a ticket for 2 tickets Chichen Nitza, 2 tickets Isla Mujueres for $150.00USD. I immediately went to MARTIN and said wait this is not what you said, Where are our 8 tickets and our free x-caret tickets? He said two trips $150.00 good deal. You want x-caret tickets they are $104.00 a piece. I said you LIED to us! I said do we get 2 day passes to spend the day at the Royal? He said we don't do that! I was steamed at that point. I just said forget it, lets get this presentation over with. We were there for at least 3-4 hours not 90 minutes. When the presentation was over they wanted $9000.00 to join. We explained that my husband was recovering from cancer and we were not in position to join right now. They said we will let you think about it and walked away, My husband and i figuared we wasted enough time here and got up to leave. We made it to the patio when six goons came after us and told us we could not leave until we signed a piece of paper stating how our presentation was. They forced us back in the building to sign this paper and of course offer us a less expensive package, The one goon told us to show respect by signing the paper! RESPECT? SERIOUSLY? Did they forget we were suppose to be on vacation? The first two days of our vacation sucked. Now on the plus side the beach was amazing so was the trip to Isla Mujueres! So if you want to get pecked to death by Vultures in trade for a beautiful beach this place is for you, Also beware of MARTIN he will lie through his teeth for a few bucks tn his pocket!!

“Would never stay again....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I was invited on a girls trip to Cancun, a belated bachelorette party. There where 8 of us in total and we had three rooms. Two of the rooms were located in the Villa section of the hotel which is centrally located near the main pool and the bar. The other room was in the main section of the hotel. I will start with the positives:

Pros:

-Centrally located in Cancun, 15 minute ride to the airport
-Nice beach front, sand was soft, vast view of the ocean
-Very nice travel rep helped my friend find her wallet left on the plane (continental delivered it with all of her cash!)
-Good breakfast, lot's of options and the eggs are cooked to order if you like sunny side up, omelette, etc. Mimosa's were good as well.
-Nice bell man
-The resort was well priced - if this is the high end of your budget and the only way you can take the trip - book it, just have low expectations.....
-Villa's have a spacious living/dining area and full kitchen.

Cons (Ordered chronologically as occurred)
-One room was reserved for two double beds, got a king (small king) and hotel had no other options available.
-No matter how many adults have paid to share a room they will only give you two room keys
-You have a towel card you must turn in at check-out if not get slapped with a 25.00 fee
-You have to pay to have access to the safe, $4 per day
-Mini bar is not refilled on request, what you get for the day is it, again not dependent on the number of people in your room, if you want more beer, soda or BOTTLED WATER you have to pay for it. In Mexico, seriously!!!
-Most of the food was awful, again breakfast and the reservation only Mexican restaurant were the only passable meals available. I actually lost weight on the trip because I breakfast was the only decent meal I ate....
- Only beer on tap is corona, or so they say...and all drinks were served in 8 oz juice glasses.
- Only gave you the good stuff if you asked and not all bars had premium booze
- No drink service on beach, not even water, saw only 2 waitresses around the main pool and was never approached by one, had to go to the bar for drinks.
- Only one small patio for outdoor dining, no walk up cantina's all buffet for lunch and buffet and sit down (with reservation) for dinner.
- Our villa flooded due to rain water and had a leak in the master bedroom ceiling. We had to move rooms and never got an "i am sorry," we requested to speak to a manager and it never happened.
- Pool chairs were really uncomfortable.
- Beds were hard as rocks, no one slept well the whole trip
- There is a $5.00 charge for room service.
-Bathroom area with toilet and shower was TINY
- The shampoo offered by the hotel wouldn't even lather in my hair, no matter how much I used. The conditioner was okay.

I have had other all inclusive experiences (for about the same price) and this was not even in the same league. Other members of the group had much better experiences with all inclusive in Mexico as well so I don't think I am being a snob about this.

So overall it was a poor experience. I would never stay at any hotel this brand offers. That being said, if it is this place or no vacation I say do it because life is too short not to see the world.

The receptionist was very rude when I arrived.The shares people are like sharks awaiting for you and they do not live you alone!!!! is so annoying >{
I had to wait for my room to be ready I was tired hot and hungry & wanted to change b4 eating...missed the buffet ate til dinner which was only 1 place open @ 5 all the food was cold and hard :( Really looking for seafood which I did not have a chance 2 have unless you made a reservation.. The pool entertainment was a grt and a lot of fun (Ulises y Claudia)
They do need to improvise when it rains as no one can go into the pool or ocean that was a bummer.

It was sad to find out that even though I am Mexican they would not treat me the same as the other guests...and bk I was alone I felt more outcast. They would pay more attention the the couples and families. I really left with a vey bad impression of Cancun and I do not think Iwill go back to that hotel. Only the hostesses and the captain's of the Restaurant were polite and friendly as the room attendants.
The beach was full of trash e/day I asked if they did not clean in the am? Of course we do.! Funny ::they:: ask you to provide a safe and GREEN environement and they do not follow their own advice in their own beaches...
My room was spacious but had a view of the noisy vents from the hotel next door and was next to the laundry mat
I wish they had provided me with more specific information about the restaurants and warn me about going downtown(scary experience).

My rep helped me book a swim w/dolphins which promised lockers and towell (lies) and got hurt on the ride; they would not even offer me ice. I had TO ASK for it :( Back home now and in a lot of pain...broken rib

Room Tip: I would not know since, I did not have a chance to "choose" :(
