Just returned following 8 nights at this great hotel, it really is a true gem!
rooms very large, beach fantastic, very close to the isla shopping mall,
many restaurants close by.
i wish we had discovered this hotel years ago!

we are actually going to stay there for two weeks starting feb 26th. we bought the timeshare 9 years ago and have not regretted it yet. we were there after the hurricane and we still enjoyed ourselves, despite the mess and loss of beach. we have taken all of our kids and friends there and everyone enjoyed it. I like the fact that it is small. You get to know all the staff and fellow vacationers. it is clean and convenient to a lot of things.

This hotel has a little age on it but it was very clean and the staff was very friendly. We had a 2 bedroom, 3 bath suite from a friend's time share (room 7201) and there were a few glitches - one shower didn't work and one TV didn't work. We also could never figure out how to turn down the A/C. We worked around these minor issues. The beach and view were spectacular, the hotel was clean and the staff very accomodating. The only significant complaint I had was that the room was far too dim. I think they had low watt energy saving bulbs in everything. Didn't bother me in the bedroom but it was a pain in the bathroom. Had a hard time seeing to shave and my wife had a hard time with her makeup. All in all though it was one of the best beach vacations we have ever taken.

When we initially arrived it was raining and cold. I was thinking this is not going to be a great vacation. I must say from the moment we arrived at the Avalon Grand everything changed. We were greeted by Pablo who was very polite and friendly. He assigned us the best room (8202) in the entire hotel. We walked into a beautiful cozy romantic oceanfront room. The view was to die for. We felt right at home. The room was clean, the service was awesome. The waiters were very nice, almost every morning we had the table facing the lagoon. The activities on the beach and at night were a lot of fun.
I had stayed at the Hyatt previously and this time around I really enjoyed the Avalon Grand so much more. The bus is right next to the Flamingo Mall or Flamingo Shops right across from the hotel, very convenient if you want to go to Market 28 or Walmart.


The only negative I found was there aren't any elevators. Lucky for us we didn't need them, but if someone has a disability it might be a bit difficult for them to get around.
